  • "Elm cottage had a lot of good feedback on the web page and it certainly helped us make a very good choice."

The cottage is clean and very well equipped and parking was no problem. There are plenty of places to visit with Beamish fairly close by.

Very comfortable with everything you need. Shower bit small for " larger" person but able to manoeuvre myself in and out. Area great for walking dogs with couple of pubs nearby.

  • "Had a lovely stay at Elm Cottage, very neat and tidy and well equipped."

We took our dog (Cockapoo X) and although we pack extra blankets and towels, the additional "old towel" for the dog was very welcome after a muddy walk along the Pennines. I'd recommend that as the shower room is very tight, making it into a wet room, but perhaps that couldn't be done? I'd also recommend some black out blinds in the bedrooms, as the street lamps outside seem quite bright. (That may just be me, I like it dark, dark to sleep, but had no trouble getting any, bed was comfortable and it was quiet). Having some proper sofa covers would be excellent for those of us with dogs. It can be a squeeze in the car when taking large blankets everywhere. While we can keep our dog off the furniture when necessary, there's nothing to stop her jumping on while we're in bed. Otherwise this is a beautiful place to stay and well situated near many walks and attractions. The welcome book was very well thought out and written with everything we could possibly need. We hope to return again and explore more of the local area. Thank you!

Thank you for your lovely feedback and suggestions. The downstairs shower room does have the potential to be reconfigured to give more room, something we will certainly consider for future. The bedroom darkness Is not one we've picked up on before, but we are staying at the cottage this week and we'll certainly have a look at this, thanks for raising. Also thanks for the suggestion of sofa covers. We provide large throws for the sofas for where owners have pets to keep them covered. But we'll have a look at if these are sufficient and what's easiest for our housekeeper to wash and put out for the next guests. Hope to see you again soon. Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

  • "Lovely warm, cosy & well appointed cottage with secure front & rear gardens ideal for our dog, real sun traps they were!"

Comfy beds, lots of kitchen storage, washer, dryer & dishwasher in utility. Right in the doorstep for lots of country & riverside walks, heritage railway too for all you train buffs. Unfortunately the nearest pub closed the day we got there! But there are 2 others in walking distance & a fab Italian restaurant, coffee shop & bakery. Chinese takeout excellent too (cash only-there’s an ATM in the village tho). Hamsterley forest worth a visit, a bit further afield to the coast at Blyth & of course Barnard Castle & the Bowes museum a must. Would definitely stay again at Elm Cottage

Thank you for the lovely feedback. Great to hear that you & your dog really enjoyed yourselves, hope to see you again! Best wishes, Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at Elm cottage."

The property was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. Though we did very little cooking during our stay, preferring to eat out at local restaurants, the kitchen had everything we would have needed. Parking was a concern before we arrived with no specific area provided for the property, however, there was always space available in the area suggested by the owners. Would recommend to others

Thanks you for the lovely comments and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back at some point in the future. Best wishes, Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

  • "Just stayed at this beautiful cottage for 5 days and it was clear from the start the owners took great pride in their cottage and put their customers in front of making profit."

We recieved an email from the owners with excellent details before arriving with places to park and detailed instructions when in the cottage, never had this before. It is kitted out brilliantly. There is everything required and it has been thought about from a customers point of view, clearly taking up any issues arising and rectifying them after every visit, as seen in the guest book! Fully stocked tea, coffee, sugar, dishwashing tablets, cleaning stuff, sashet milk and all utensils required if you're wanting to cook or take out a packed lunch. Huge amount of storage, great lighting, decor is lovely, dogs welcome with easy wipeable flooring downstairs and lovely thick carpets upstairs. The children thought the bedding was divine. The colour schemes in the rooms e.g. pink bedroom looks great. Asked before hand if the bed could be split into twin beds which was set up on our arrival. Great matress, duvets and pillows often any old mattress and bedding is provided cheaply but these were really nice to sleep on. Very clean and tidy and beautiful front and back yard fully enclosed. We have really enjoyed our stay and the way you've set the smart heating etc so it's nice and cosy with starter wood if desired for the fire is such a fantastic idea. The kids enjoyed many games of chess and the big screen enabled us to watch family movies each night. Well done Tracy and Andrew, we normally use hoseasons but will definitely use sykes cottages again!

Thank you Kirsty & family for your lovely feedback. Great to hear that you, the family & the dogs really enjoyed your stay. Best wishes, Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

  • "Lovely place to stay."

I was happy with the price paid. It lacked the nice little touch of a welcome pack. Though I do understand with the prices at the local store. The produce had no indication of the price. Which I believe is illegal, so advising visitors to shop there is not helpful. I went without that evening rather then being robbed by the shop owner. The property itself is great and I would recommend it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay Alan. We have not experienced issues with the local shop before, but sorry to hear that you were not happy with them. Our usual place of choice for groceries is an excellent Spar at the edge of the village, which we'll make sure is top of the list for any info in future. Along with our brilliant local Deli for treats - Peggoty's. Best wishes Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

  • "Elm Cottage was ideal for us, well placed for day trips into Country Durham, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland and of course Weardale."

The shower and toilet downstairs is very tight but the shower itself was powerful and the temperature very controllable. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and we were able to eat outside in the cool of the evening.

Thank you for the feedback, great to hear you enjoyed your stay. Best regards, Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

  • "What a fabulous find this cottage is."

One of the most relaxing and comfortable that we have stayed in. From the moment of arrival ( parking was very close and really easy all the time of our stay) into the little front garden, to the end of our stay we felt completely at home. Both of the outside spaces were well kept, dog safe (patterdale terrier in this instance) and lovely for a morning brew or an evening glass of wine. The sofas and beds were comfy, the kitchen had loads of storage space, and plenty of glasses and cutlery for the two of us. The living room and dining area was a little haven of peace and quiet. The upstairs bathroom was roomy and the little shower room off the kitchen was "cosy" but the shower was really good. I don't think that the photos really do it justice. It is in a great position in the village with easy access by foot to everything, shop, restaurant, takeaways, cafe, butchers and bakers (except maybe the Spar at the Fuel station that's a good walk or a short drive really) For those interested in what's in the village There are many paths around the beautiful village for pretty walks or picnics. There are 3 pubs in the village but currently (May 2022) only one serves food and only Fri, Sat, Sun (which only really matters if you want to eat at the pub) but there are lots of places with a 15 minute or less drive to go to eat. The Chinese takeaway is good but only takes cash, The chippy only open Friday, Sat and Wed. The cafe does a really good meal and the butchers and bakers are fab The Italian is just Fabulous .. try it! Wolsingham is in a great spot for exploring the area around - or for just staying put, having a few walks and relaxing.

Lovely feedback Wendy thank you. Glad you had a great stay. Best Wishes, Andrew & Tracy Property Owner

Thank you for the feedback, really appreciated thank you. We are pleased to say that our nearest local pub (The Black Bull - 100 yards away) has now re-opened, we've visited and is serving great food including Sunday lunch.
