  • "The cottage was brilliant, an amazing welcome pack and beautiful vase of flowers to greet us, the towels smelt fresh and so did the bedding, the bed was super comfortable and the shower was super powerful."

I have only one critique it would have been great if there was a footstool to put your feet on whilst sitting on the huge chair as it was leather I kept sliding off lol and when I was reading in front of the wood burner it would have made it perfect.

  • "We had a smashing week but I do think we were misled by the information on the website."

We were particularly taken on booking by the decking area by the river but in reality this is very small and involves crossing a road and squeezing past the car parked in a small area which meant carrying a tray was not easy so eating there is a challenge. More could be made of this area with pots and flowers. It felt quite dark in the house as little sunlight comes through and it meant we were cold of an evening. There is a log burner we could have lit , but in June?! The stairs are steep and the front door is straight out onto the road. Disappointingly we weren't allowed out back either. That being said the beds are comfy and there was always hot water. Essentials were left for us on arrival which was thoughtful. Wolsingham is a very lovely village and I would stay there again, there are plenty of walks and County Durham people are so friendly.

It's a very pretty little village with a proper local pub round the corner (The Black Lion) and a handful of shops. We loved seeing the ducks roam around the village & watching/listening to them pass by the cottage. The cottage is very warm and cosy, and was very clean and very well equipped. We arrived to a lovely welcome pack with fruit scones, bread butter and eggs etc! Oh and doggie treats. It had good Wi-Fi and a very useful guide to the area. The bed was super comfy & the shower very powerful. Our only niggles would be....a little more worktop space in the kitchen, washing machine instead of a dish washer. And maybe a little spruce up of the outside space (planters are broken & decking just needs a wash down)

  • "The cottage itself was very nice, warm, clean and comfortable, and everything we used worked."

The reason we chose the cottage was because we wanted somewhere which was in the country and pretty central for our travelling plans. There are a lot of touristy places to visit without going too far and these included, the Roman Wall, (Houseteads, Chesters, Corbridge), Hexham Abbey and town, Beamish Museum, Barnard Castle, Bowlees - for the walks to the High Force and Low force waterfalls and of course access to all the moorlands/forests etc in between! As regards Wolsingham itself - the village is an attractive place but a bit limited in terms of shops and services - for us - pubs didn't do much in the way of food and the one time we thought we'd have fish and chips, the local didn't open till 18.30! Having said that, there were nice shops at nearby Stanhope, and for more adventurous food shopping at Barnard Castle and West Auckland. We really didn't want to go to any bigger town for shopping. The cottage was the ideal base for all our activities and we'll almost certainly go back for more - and return visits to Bowlees, Hexham and maybe Durham - none of which are very far away.

  • "We had an excellent stay at 21 Silver Street."

The welcome from the owners was very good and the small welcome pack greatly appreciated. We needed to contact the owners once during our stay and their response was excellent with a swift result. The quality of equipment in the cottaqe was to a good standard and far in excess of minimum requirements. I would highly recommend this property to friends and family and are aiming to return to Wear Dale again as there is lots to do in the surrounding area.

  • "This is a very pleasant, very well-equipped cottage."

It is an ideal location for touring the area. The town has several good pubs and everyone we met was very friendly. There are plenty of places for dog walking. The park/ride facilities near Durham are very good. Beamish living museum is quite near and is well worth a visit. Would consider visiting the area again.
