“Lovely cottage and 0.”
4 miles from our daughter .
4 miles from our daughter .- Mrs Parker, August 2020
“A minor point was that the information provided beforehand stated that there was an electric wood effect stove.”
There was not. We overlooked this as we felt this was minor. Wasps. When we arrived, the owner met us to show us around. He picked up a dead wasp from the kitchen floor and told us that there was a wasps nest, but it had been treated. After he left, we noted that there was a wasps nest in the eves of the roof outside, but it seemed to be quite active. We thought no more about it, but from the first full day that we were there, the wasps started to become apparent. Some had found a way from the nest into the house, and were flying around the front door and then falling to the floor. It was difficult to escape from them as the vaulted ceilings in the property were open and meant that they could go anywhere in the hall, bathroom and bedroom. We came home after a day out midweek to find 20 to 30 wasps flying around and crawling on the floor. We had to deal with them, which was not a pleasant task. We advised the owners of the problem, knowing that there was very little that they could do, but just to make them aware. They got everywhere, including in our clothes. It got so bad that we woke up to wasps buzzing overhead on our penultimate day and decided that we had had enough and packed up and went home. It is a shame, because it spoilt what could have been a really nice holiday. We advised the owners of our early departure and the reason. We feel we should have been warned of the wasp situation before we arrived. At best, we had the unpleasant task of dealing with 150-200 wasps during the week ... at worst, one of us could have had a severe allergy to wasps and it could have been fatal. Personally we don't think the place should have been let out as the owners were obviously aware and we were a last minute booking- Mr Harris, October 2020
“Perfect location for us to use as a walking base”- Mrs Baker, July 2020
“Everything about this booking was perfect.”
Easy to book six months ago. Super welcome from the owners, Pete and Yvonne who met us at the cottage to show us round and to explain things like heating and facilities. The cottage is gorgeous and had absolutely everything we could need. We particularly enjoyed the wood burner in the evenings. We had the main house and The Forge with the linked door so both my son and myself had our own accomodation but could mingle when we wanted! Quincy the dog loved the stay too. Midgley is a beautiful village in the most beautiful setting. There are lovely walks from the cottage. We would love to return to the cottage. The final kindness from the owners was their poping a left behind bag in the post for us.- Ms Walker, September 2019
“Great cottage with 2 sets of facilities so was suitable for us as 2 friends who want the ability to have some separate space but also spend time together.”
Location is perfect for Bronte country and Halifax/ Hebden Bridge and around. Lovely and warm and cosy, but also light and good to spend time in when the weather fails and you don't want to go anywhere. The little dog with us also approved!!- Dr Jones, November 2018
“Delightful quirky old cottage definitely go back there again”- Mrs Smith, November 2018
“The cottage was beautiful.”
The area is lovely and the scenery is stunning. It is exactly as pictured but somehow nicer in reality. Yvonne met us there to show us round and explain how everything works - we phoned her when we were 30 minutes away. As we went as 2 separate familes, this was just perfect. A choice to be separate or together. Both kitchens had a box of biscuits, tea bags & sugar, kitchen roll & washing up liquid. Both toilets had soap & toilet rolls. There were bath towels and hand towels. The beds were pristine and there was a 4 pint of milk in the fridge. There were even books, a pack of cards and pens in the drawer. So much more than we expected. The little local co-op was lovely and the owners/staff were very friendly & helpful. They suggested where we should go and how to get there and invited us to the local coffee morning. Personally, I would have liked a decent map with the cottage marked on it, so I could get my bearings and a list of suggested places to visit and the directions. Something I think the local tourist information should provide for holiday cottages & hotels in the area. We would happily return and heartily recommend- Mrs Stone, June 2018
“A comfortable bright cottage in a handy location for this area.”
Parking is sometimes a bit difficult with young children but otherwise not really a problem. The owner's welcome was very kind and helpful.- Mrs Storey, March 2018
“We live nearby and used the Old Forge as an annex for a big family weekend.”
It worked really well. The owners were so helpful.- Mrs Pearson, January 2018
“The property was ideal in that we were two families sharing so due to the layout of the property both parties were able to have their own space and privacy.”
Parking was abit of an issue, however it was stated in the descriptive that it was a first come first serve basis. Considering the normal rental price and then comparing it to the price we paid just because it was Christmas week did seem abit extortionate, I don’t know if that was down to Sykes? The owners are lovely people, very friendly and kept checking to make sure everything was ok. I got abit fed up of Sykes constantly bombarding me with emails asking me if I wanted to book the property even when I had already made the booking!!- Cole, December 2017
“We would happily return to this cottage as it has everything we require for a successful holiday - very comfortable beds, a walk in shower and bedroom on the ground floor, and sofas that allow you to relax in them.”
It's a little quirky, having two kitchens and sitting rooms, but this only adds to it's charms. The decor is simple with clean white walls which give the cottage a restful feel. And the welcome from the owners was second to none.- Mrs Kitching, November 2017
“I stayed at this cottage for 2 weeks and it carltered for all our needs.”
I would return in a heartbeat- Mr Arkley, November 2017
Lovely location. Owners were friendly and helpful. Cottage was a delight, with everything you could have wanted to enjoy your holiday.- Mrs Moore, September 2017
“This is a quaint cottage, excellently renovated, in a village on a ridge high above the Halifax to Hebden Bridge valley, with moorlands beyond.”
We found the cottage bright, clean and well fitted out for our needs, and the owner was very welcoming and friendly. There is a shop a quarter of a mile from the cottage, and an hourly bus service to Halifax, terminating very close to the property. As a base for exploring W.Yorkshire, this was an ideal place to stay for us.- Mr Page, July 2017
