“A stunning cottage in a stunning location.”
Could not have asked for any more- Mr Cain, August 2020
“Wellside cottage is immacuately and tastefully presented with good quality furniture and fittings.”
It appeared to have been very thoroughly cleaned, which is important while Covid-19 is still being transmitted in the community. The cottage is probably not suitable for people with mobility issues, as there are fairly steep steps from the road down to the entrance. There is also a deep step down into the second bedroom and the warning sign needs to be placed at eye level, on the door, as we only spotted it on the third day, after we had both fallen down the step - luckily without hurting ourselves. It’s best to park in the nearby gravel lay-by, rather than on the road outside the cottage, as the road is narrow, although there is a short 1 minute walk uphill to the cottage. Wellside has a spectacular view out of the picture window of the sitting room, and is close to several footpaths and walking tracks in the village - some not very well maintained, but worth the effort. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed staying here.- Mr Appleton, August 2020
“The quality of the accommodation is excellent, everything was finished to a very high standard.”
It was absolutely immaculate and information was available as to how the property had been made Covid secure. The owner Johnny clearly communicated with us and was available throughout. A very nice chap. The location is fantastic, sweeping views down the Calder valley were a delight to wake up to. We would have no hesitance in recommending this property for a comfortable, spotless, home From home holiday in a stunning location. Neil and Daniel July 2020- Mr Bolton-heaton, July 2020

“We’ve stayed in a lot of cottages and this is by far and away the most a property has exceeded expectations.”
Stunning property in a beautiful location and every part of the experience was first class- Mr Uttley, December 2019
“Wellside is a beautiful cottage, extremely well appointed with lovely furnishings and everything you need for a stay away from home.”
We arrived in December for a holiday to visit family, we travelled from Australia but originally from Halifax so know the area well. The cottage was perfect and had everything we needed on the inside, was very cosy with beautiful views across the valley. The only slight downside is access from the outside and parking. Very steep steps down to the cottage which were fine for us but probably not if you are not as able and although it states parking outside the cottage it isnt really viable because we had a large car and it is on such a narrow lane. There is a layby further down the lane that can be used to park but this has a very uneven surface so difficult to get in and out of. But if you want the cottage for walks in beautiful countryside then this is a great place to stay and would certainly recommend.- Mrs Van De Gevel, November 2019
“Felt at home the moment we walked in the door.”
A top quality home with the best of everything. The rain shower is excellent but we could have used a shower cap.- Mr Austen, October 2019
“Beautiful, clean, cosy cottage.”
Fantastic views, highly recommended.- Miss Bentley, September 2019

“We stayed at this cottage for a month to be near our daughter for the birth of our first grandchild.”
It is a lovely, well equipped cottage, furnished to a high standard. Fantastic views and a beautiful part of Yorkshire. We will visit again soon.- Mrs Spragg, June 2019
“Wellside Cottage is a lovely cottage in a stunning location.”
Quality furnishings and fittings. Everything you could want or need for a great holiday. Off road parking is provided 50 yards away and is necessary as the lane is very narrow.- Mrs Keerie, May 2019
“Lovely cottage in the quiet location of Midgley.”
Recently refurbished and modernised, the cottage was extremely clean with all the amenities you could wish for. It has wonderful uninterrupted views across the Calder valley with a nice seating area in front of the cottage. A couple of miles from the popular village of Hebden Bridge, walkable down the canal but be prepared for a steep walk back up to Midgley!- Mr Butterworth, May 2019
“A lovely cosy yet elegant cottage, in a lovely position.”- Ms Yates, March 2019
“Perfect location with serenely beautiful views that can be viewed from within the cottage.”
Clean & comfortable cottage and tempted to stay instead of venturing. Jonathan the host was very welcoming too.- Dr Linga Nathan, January 2019
“We wanted a Christmas bolt hole.”
I cannot fault this cottage. It is fantastic. The owner has obviously thought very hard about what it would be like to live there. There are plugs where you expect them and hooks where you would expect them. It is dog friendly and the downstairs floors are very easy to clean. I think it might be a little awkward in summer when you need the door open as your dog could escape as there are gaps where a gate could be (maybe gates are not allowed though as there is a right of way to the next door cottages). The grass garden could be made secure by securing chicken wire to the boundary fences. There is a little car park 50 yards down the road and the only problem is parking outside when you unload/load up. The villagers are very friendly. I would not let anything put you off though as this cottage is fabulous. Great for walking. Brilliant farmer run tea/coffee/home made cakes not far up the road. Brilliant community shop just down the road with quality goods and local produce. We even joined in the village Christmas carol singing walkabout with mulled wine and mince pies. Midgely is a proper village with a proper community. It is not full of holiday cottages/commuters. Although we like to go to a new place each time we go away we are very tempted to go back. Can’t recommend highly enough.- Mrs Hardy, December 2018
“Excellent well presented cottage.”
Location high up on the valley sides giving excellent views across the area. Village has a local shop run by volunteers and is good for general supplies. It's a bit of a trek back uphill from the pub, which is in the next village but worth a visit. Everything in the cottage was to a very high standard. The beds a little hard for our liking but for others they may be OK. Villagers really friendly as we're generally all the locals. On the whole we had a very relaxing week complimented by the cottage. A credit to the owners.- Mrs Marshall, October 2018
“Wellside,what a wonderful place.”
Great attention to detail and presentation. Johnathan (the owner) could not have been more helpful. Plenty of cafe's walks and places to visit nearby,- and what an incredible view from the window!- Mr Reeves, August 2018
“This is a beautiful cottage, finished to a high standard.”
The view over the valley is stunning. It's well placed, yet quiet enough to enjoy a good nights sleep. There is everything you need, except an iron & ironing board, which is slightly inconvenient if like myself this isn't the only stay so clothes get creased, however this is minor to the cottages strengths.- Dr Milner, June 2018
“We had a fabulous stay at Wellside.”
The view is as stunning as the cottage.- Mr Garvey, May 2018
“Stunning views from this cottage.”
Lovely countryside and nature around. Good facilities and appliances in all rooms. Powerful shower. Good attention to detail, e.g interesting books and films available. Beds very comfortable! Thank you.- Mrs Ryall, March 2018
