  • "Our second time staying at Ellis House which we thoroughly enjoyed again."

A comfortable and peaceful property which is very clean and well maintained. Splendid country pubs serving good quality food within reasonable driving distances as well as being able to take an Uber for dining in Haworth. Well located for visiting Haworth and the Yorkshire Dales.

  • "Beautiful property."

Very clean and well set out. Only advice would be to approach the decking in the rear garden with caution as the falling leaves and bird mess makes it unattractive and risky.

  • "Ellis House itself was lovely and very well equipped."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The garden decking area was particularly lovely and very relaxing. The communication from Sykes Cottages following our booking, prior to going on holiday and a text at the end of the holiday saying they hoped we had enjoyed a great holiday was excellent.

  • "We were very pleased with Ellis House."

However, Michael, at Sykes, did not represent the area well. We specifically requested an accommodation CLOSE (easy walking distance) to a Market Town. The accommodation was neither close to a town nor was Howarth a Market Town. We told the Sykes representative that we were older and one of us had a knee injury - yet the accommodation location required extensive hill climbing and walking the hills was difficult. We told him that we were trying to stay in Harrogate, but there was no place available. He highly recommended this location as a Market Town/easy walk to town. Please know that we were pleased with the accommodation (very lovely) but definitely not with Sykes. To top it off, Sykes emailed us and we answered by email and the subsequent representative stated that we did not respond to them. All around - Sykes dropped the ball! Very disappointed!

About the location

Skipton 13 miles; Hebden Bridge 8 miles.

The small village of Haworth was home to the famous Bronte sisters, who were inspired by the surrounding moorland to pen their novels, which have become classics of English Literature. Haworth is a village that time almost forgot, with its myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets creating a wonderful period atmosphere, all set against a framing backdrop of countryside famously described in the novel Wuthering Heights as wild, rugged and barren. Nearby, the famous Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, provides a lovely day out with a regular service to the old village of Oxenhope. The area abounds with popular places to visit, including the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the National Railway Museum in York. The market town of Skipton, often fondly regarded as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is just a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate and vibrant Leeds and Manchester.
