“The location was everything we'd hoped it would be and more.”
Unfortunately, there'd been a fall of snow the day before our arrival and its rapid thaw resulted in a large body of deep water in front of the access door to the cottage. We found a snow shovel and used this to scoop away the water till we could get to the door. Some water had entered the cottage and soaked the carpet. We did not make anything of this as the weather this year has been extreme, but it would have been nice to have felt that the owner was around and aware of the position.
The cottage was fine, double glazing and oil heating excellent, and generally comfortable without being fussy.
We have a dog and were aware that sheep and lambs would be nearby. In fact, it's not possible to walk a dog off the lead near the cottage, in the woods, fields or on the moors as this is specifically forbidden, and no-one wants their dog shot at. So the remoteness of the site actually made walking our dog harder than at home. This of course is not the fault of the cottage, but I think they should let dog owners know it.
The owner was unobtrusive and the whole site was blissfully quiet. It delivers what you'd expect and the price was good, but remember that if the weather's bad in the Vale of York, then up here it's something else!
