There were the little touches too such as a pint of milk so we could have a cup of tea on arrival, the bottle of wine chilling in the fridge, and the half a dozen free range eggs from her own chickens. All with a card to welcome us. Such a thoughtful touch. Would highly recommend Sykes Cottages and Fern Cottage in Yorkshire with its beautiful surroundings and a gentle pace. When the most recent reviews continued to deteriorate, with a bit of pressure from our end, the owner of property 1 agreed on a cancellation, and a new booking took us to Yorkshire. All the telephone advisers we spoke to during this period were excellent. We were surprised that Sykes had not satisfactorily addressed concerns of previous guests at Property 1, as their first appearance with Google claims "All properties inspected", but we were also relieved- and grateful-to be able to make a fresh booking. Fern Cottage was delightful, as was Fearby, the blessedly peaceful and pretty village where the cottage is set. The thoughtful owner had done everything possible to ensure contented house guests. Fern Cottage was well up to the standards we've come to expect from Sykes. We would not hesitate to use them again . The location is beautiful, peaceful and close enough to Masham's facilities to ensure most people's needs and wants can easily be met. The only small criticism - and it is nit-picking - is that the double bed could be firmer, two people in it roll together. As for Sykes, mostly OK, except that when I rang up with a query, the agent dug out an old booking and it took a second call to sort it out (to be fair, the agent was very apologetic). But the website, booking and payment all worked well, and I wouldn't be averse to booking via Sykes again.
