  • "Pity the last review wasn't there when I booked."

This house was not cleaned properly - or hastily or in some parts not at all. I can understand why the previous guest left early. Dirty oven dirty microwave, body hairs in shower and bath, bed looked it it had been slept in, pillows smelled, kitchen floor not mopped property, grubby looking glasses, plates not washed properly, glass table not cleaned. Bits of grass/moss on carpet - was it even hoovered? We were here for important family purposes and had no choice but to stay. I didn't immediately complain as it was evening time due to late check in and was busy in my trip plus who wants the awkwardness of someone coming round I was only there 3 nights. I did email Sykes the day before leaving to detail all this and explain I wouldn't be held responsible for the oven etc. No reply. I'd actually booked another cottage but without apology Sykes cancelled on owners behalf last minute. This 'cottage' was the only one to met my needs in terms of location, cost and bedrooms. I wouldn't use Sykes again or recommend this property. The lack of reviews says it all. I'm an experienced self catering customer and this is the only bad experience I've had.

  • "Firstly I thought not being able to arrive until 6pm was unnecessary, you need to advertise this more clearly."

There was a damp musty smell in the front room, not sure if it was the furniture or the carpet. The mugs, glasses and cutlery all needed washing before we used them as they all looked greasy and unclean. The bathroom flooring needs refitting. Generally I thought the whole property needed a really good clean. We were so uncomfortable we left a day early! I have used Sykes cottages a number of times but on this occasion I was very disappointed with them, the customer service was diabolical !!

  • "A lovely house with great facilities, within walking distance of Sowerby Bridge centre that has a number of restaurants, cafes and shops."

We were lucky enough to be able to organise an earlier check in too. The house was lovely and clean and beds really comfortable. The only problem I could foresee is if any of the guest have mobility issues as being an older house the steps were very steep.

    Thanks.

We are delighted that you had a lovely holiday and liked our home. We received a beautiful note from your daughter which we loved reading it was very sweet. We are pleased that you all made the cottage your home whilst you were on holiday. Property Owner

  • "I think you should make customers aware of the steepness and narrowness of the stairs."

Luckily, we are fully mobile, but anyone with who is not fully fit would struggle. I also disagree with calling this two up, two down terraced house a “cottage”. Please make the owner aware that the loose socket in the kitchen caused the fridge to defrost several times during our visit.

  • "Property very well presented, warmly welcomed by owner, shower could do with a slip mat."

Did not affect us as we ate out but was surprised to find food in cupboards and ice box.
