“This is a beautiful cosy warm cottage a real home from home.”

Wonderful views over the moors and walks from the doorstep. It was very clean and very comfortable and has everything you need.

Wonderful views over the moors and walks from the doorstep. It was very clean and very comfortable and has everything you need. It is in easy reach of the Yorkshire dales Skipton Haworth and Hebden Bridge. The owner is very helpful if you have any problems and I would not hesitate to book this cottage again.

The property

Enjoying a wonderful position within the picturesque Worth Valley, which was made famous by the classic 1970 film, The Railway Children is Pickles Hill Cottage, situated on the outskirts of Oakworth village.

This delightful accommodation is perfect for couples or small families to explore West Yorkshire and its magnitude of pretty towns and villages, as well as to travel to the North Yorkshire National Park.

Enter into the warmth of the cottage and be welcomed into the sitting room, where the exposed beams frame the traditional-style furnishings, complemented by a gas coal effect fire, making a tranquil spot to return to at the end of a winter’s day.

Joining this space is the dining table, where you and your loved ones can gather to tuck into a home-cooked meal that was prepared within the well-equipped kitchen.

Afterwards, look forward to catching your rest within one of the two bedrooms, comprising of a double bedroom with elegant furnishings and a single bedroom, ideally set up for a child.

Soak up your countryside surroundings further, by taking dining outdoors onto the patio, where you can make the most of the table and chairs, whilst catching a glimpse of the sunset.

If you can tear yourself away from this quaint abode, head into the village of Oakworth, where you will find a plethora of amenities, including a choice of pubs and a shop for picking up the essentials.

The wonderful country pub The Grouse Inn is only 400 yards away from the cottage and offers special discounts to guests of the cottage.

Alternatively, travel slightly further afield to Keighley where you will find a larger selection of pubs, restaurants, cafés and tearooms, offering something to suit all tastes, as well as providing access to the attractions of Cliffe Castle Museum and Park, offering a variety of local history and heritage for you to explore.

Whilst staying here, be sure to visit the nearby village of Haworth, famous for being the home of the Bronte sisters and the inspiration for many of their famous novels, as well as offering a variety of quaint eateries for refuelling before exploring the surrounding moorland.

Alternatively, head to Skipton, where you will find charming cobbled streets and the 12th century castle, while further afield is the interesting old Calderdale town of Hebden Bridge with its hippy culture.

For those feeling more adventurous, climb the peak of Ilkley Moor, a moorland and conservation area with several scenic walking trails, providing excellent birdwatching opportunities and scenic viewpoints, or head to the Yorkshire Dales National Park to find more walking spots.

Bring your loved ones to Pickles Hill Cottage to share a memorable stay in West Yorkshire.

About the location

Haworth 2 miles; Skipton 10 miles.

Oakworth is a small Pennine village just two miles from Haworth, overlooking the Worth Valley, made famous by the filming of the classic 1970 film version of E.E. Nesbitt's novel, The Railway Children. Besides its close proximity to Haworth and the moors, Oakworth has an attractive ornamental park, and is within easy reach of the town of Keighley. Nearby Haworth was home to the famous Bronte sisters, who were much-inspired by the surrounding moorland. Haworth has a myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets creating a wonderful period atmosphere, and all this against a backdrop of countryside famously described in the novel Wuthering Heights. Nearby, the famous Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, makes a lovely day out, with a regular service to the old village of Oxenhope. The area is full of popular places to visit, including the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the Museum of Rail. The market town of Skipton, Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is just a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate, and vibrant Leeds and Manchester.
