  • "The property was very comfortable and tidy."

The bed was very comfortable as well. One small thing, there was only enough logs to have a fire for about an hour, so remember to take logs in with if you need a fire for the whole evening.

Thank you for your comments and glad you found the cottage comfortable. With regards to logs we provide a “starter “ amount which should last couple of days. We apologise if you didn’t find this sufficient. We hope you will come back again. Property Owner

  • "Excellently presented cottage."

Very clean and tidy and eqipped with everything one could possibly need. Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits a nice touch. We know the area well, with family living in Grewelthorpe - lots to do and visit locally. Only gripe was the stairs, particularly getting from bedroom to bathroom. Not sure what could be done about it. Certainly not suitable for people with mobility problems. And a chair for clothes etc. in bedroom would have been appreciated . But we had a lovely stay. Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback and lovely comments about Ashknott Cottage. Glad you had a lovely stay. The staircase is a quirk of the cottage and nothing can be done. However we do say in information that maybe not suitable for those with mobility issues. Re bedroom chair as there is already an ottoman seat we did not feel both was needed. Hope we may be able to host you again in the future. regards Andrew and Erica Property Owner

  • "Disappointed to arrive to a full wheelie bin under the kitchen window in very hot weather and more disapponted with the response from the owners ( via Sykes) blaming previous occupants."

Thankfully there was an ample supply of flyspray. The downstairs has a pungent smell which comes from the build up of smoke emanating from the woodburner and the cheap logs provided. It really is quite nasty.Top tip is to take plenty of odour killing materials and sprays to try and mask the pong. The lounge really does need better lighting ( as raised in previous comments) rather than a rota system for who gets to read in the armchair at night. Overall the cottage is in need of freshening up and updating. It would also help if there was a local emergency contact number other than having to go through the Sykes call centre. I won't be returning to this particular property, though the local area is well worth visiting, Nice bathroom and bedroom to be fair.

Hi I am sorry you have had some issues during your stay but I would like to respond on your points as follows. RE: the waste bin - I was contacted by Sykes re the bin condition and despite me being overseas at the time I tried to have this corrected although communication links were restrictive due to my location. Whist my comment was that we ask all occupants to put the bin out on a Tuesday night as detailed in the information folder and polite reminders in the cottage, it was not a criticism of past occupants. RE: Your statement of pungent smell downstairs through the log burner, any log fire will provide a smoke smell and the logs provided are as provided over the past 5 years. We have had an air freshener in the cottage which I have been informed has now been removed, which we will again replenish on my next inspection. The chimney is regularly swept and checked by a long standing professional, local to the area. RE: Your comment on the lighting The cottage as advertised is of a 1800's construction and hence no large windows, but the lounge does have 4x wall lights, 1x standard lamp and also 1x reading light adjacent the singular chair. Again your comment around the cottage requires refreshing - The cottage is kept in keeping with the style it was originally intended and has been proffesionally redecorated in the past 2 years. RE: Your request for direct contact and having to go through the Sykes call centre - this is normal practice and in keeping with your booking conditions. Property Owner

  • "Suggested a tv upgrade to a tv with free view for IPlayer itv ch4 etc rather than preset apps."

Better lighting led for reading. Really quite dim inside.

Thank You for your feedback but I would like to comment on your points raised. Whilst the TV in the lounge has now lost the facility for bbc I player, due to Sony / i player changes, it does have facility for all terrestrial channels plus additional channels without the need for use of apps. It also has the facility via apps for use of Netflix and Amazon prime with personal accounts. The bedroom TV does have BBCi player facility. With the cottage build being circa mid 1800's, on a dull day the lounge appearance can be dim, to off set this the lighting in the lounge has 4no wall lights with additional 1no reading light adjacent the singular lounge chair and also an additional standard lamp near the dining table. All lights have energy saving lamps fitted. Again thanks for your time in passing on feedback and we hope your stay was pleasant and met your expectations. Regards Andy & Erica Property Owner

A very comfortable king size bed and a washing machine in the kitchen which was a bonus. Good wi-fi in the cottage. It is actually bigger than the pictures show it be (in my opinion). Very clean and well equipped on the whole. We used the washing machine to wash our walking clothes and the cottage is so warm that they all dried in a few hours! Would be nice to know where the bin is for dog waste, we bagged ours up and then took those bags to a local waste bin. Couldn’t find any tea, coffee or sugar, but the milk and biscuits went down well once we’d been to the local shop.

It is fully equipped with everything that you could possibly need for a relaxing break in the Dales. The furniture/decor was excellent quality and to a high standard. The village that the cottage is in is wonderful, quaint and quiet with very little traffic on the roads. There was some building work taking place in the cottage next door that you could hear at times, however the owner has contacted me beforehand to warn of the noise and had offered to change the booking if we had wanted, and had also negotiated with the builders that they didn't start until after 9am. We felt that this was very thoughtful of the owner and went above and beyond what we would have expected given the noise was out of their control. It certainly didn't impact or ruin our stay, and we were grateful for the owner's response to it. We would recommend visiting nearby Masham for the Black Sheep and Theakston breweries, and for walking the nearby Hackfall Woods was a brilliant discovery!

  • "Stayed in many many cottages over the years, this was a nice pleasant cottage in a nice village."

However I do have a few gripes unfortunately. The cottage was clean but not spotless, the fridge freezer needs a good clean, the freezer part needs defrosting, looked like something had spilled on the ice , wasn't pleasant. The microwave hadn't been cleaned, didn't fancy cleaning it before using it , good job as the plates were not suitable for the microwave. Had to wash a couple of pans before using them too and drinking glasses. The cupboards and handles around the cooker were greasy and dusty. I'm really sorry to leave this review, but having stayed in cottages in the past this really didn't live up to good expectations. The village is lovely apart from the very busy road running through it, traffic does go at speed and it's a shame. The residents really should try to campaign for traffic calming measures. Again sorry for the not so great review but I am honest and wouldn't return

Thank you for your feeedback and I apologise for the cleaning errors. We agree that this is not satisfactory. Our regular cleaner has been on honeymoon but is now back and will address these issues. There are microwave plates in the cupboard and pyrex dishes can also be used. As owners, we take feedback seriously and visit the property on a regular basis. Although we do not live locally, we will continue to inspect the property as often as possioble. With regard to the road traffic, this is of course beyond our control but we will be adding new double glazed windows next month with the hope that this will help. We do hope that you may reconsider and return in the future. Property Owner

Close to the local shops. A cosy place to spend a week or 2. Good outside space. Good wifi signal, not the owners fault but no mobile phone signal in the cottage (we were on O2). If you walk down to the church you should be able to get a signal. Again not the owners fault but quite a busy road outside. The cottage had clearly been thoughtfully furnished. The bathroom was very spacious and good quality however it was a little difficult getting into it, if you are not too mobile it would be quite awkward to access.
