  • "Cottage was spacious and clean, however sofa too low and not suitable for someone with mobility issues."

Also, shower opening too narrow for a larger person and bathroom was carpeted, very unhygienic.

  • "Graham was a very welcoming and friendly host, explaining the cottage’s layout and facilities well."

With good local knowledge, he was able to easily provide us with information and directions to our destinations. We would not hesitate in recommending the farm’s facilities (cottages & caravanning) and intend to revisit in the future.

  • "Lovely comfortable dwelling."

Stunningly large lounge diner, just a lovely relaxing place to holiday with adjacent to front door parking. Also a lovely peaceful setting that is very handy for nearby Knaresborough. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Graham the owner was very friendly and helpful.

  • "Overall, this is a nice cottage but could benefit from some improvements."

The dining/lounge area is spacious and relaxing, however the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom are underwhelming in comparison. We felt the kitchen needs a normal size fridge freezer and a proper cooker/hob/extractor fan (there was a constant funky smell in there), also would’ve been useful if a cleaning sponge/scourer was provided. The bathroom needs a towel rail, shaver socket and toilet brush. The bedroom would benefit from a full height wardrobe and chest of drawers. The cottage has central heating but the thermostat is in Graham’s property (the owner) so any change requests have to go through him; he was happy to do this but we found this somewhat frustrating. That said, we had a warm welcome from Graham when we arrived and the property was very clean and tidy.

  • "A lovely, comfortable well maintained cottage on a farm just outside the village of Scotton."

We had a very warm welcome from Graham on arrival. The cottage has a very large south facing lounge with double doors on to a patio. A well equipped kitchen, a lovely bathroom with large shower and a bedroom with a very comfortable bed. There is a pub a 25 minute walk away and a bus that runs to Knaresborough and Riipon at the end of the lane. We would highly recommend this accommodation if you want a peaceful and relaxing break. It is ideally situated for exploring North Yorkshire.

  • "The Holiday cottage was immaculate, the furnishings and decor was very homely and first class."

Even with no built in oven, which we knew about the owner has provided a worktop oven with rings, an air fryer and microwave so all cooking bases are covered. Bed was very comfortable, shower was nice and hot. Ample parking provided and no noise. A nice patio area has been provided although our weather didn't allow us to use it. I would recommend and would definitely stay there again.

  • "When the owner opened the door to show us around and we saw the lounge it was amazing, its huge and and fitted with quality furniture, if i have to find fault it would have to be no breadbin and a bit short of places for other food stuff, that because of all the equipment provided,, when we were there the weather was bad ,it never stopped raining but knowing we could go back to a cottage that was so nice it didnt matter about the weather."

    I highly reccomend this cottage

  • "Generally a comfortable and very spacious cottage with a good standard of cleanliness."

For us though the stay was marred by the absence of an oven and several other things which should be standard. Maybe we should have questioned this in advance, but we really feel that a fully functioning oven, not just an air fryer should be standard in a property. There was also no socket for an electric razor, no working bread knife - we gave up trying to cut bread, no saucepan if you wanted to cook vegetables on the portable hob. We also agree with one of the other reviews - namely that cutlery provided should be of decent quality, not flimsy plastic. Kitchen equipment was the bare minimum. A mirror would have been useful over the sink in the bathroom There was a long one further along the wall but not much use if you need to use the sink. In addition the freezing unit within the fridge was completely frosted up on arrival, so much so that the unit would not close. These are small things but together, quite irksome. We managed for the few days we were there but would not have wanted a week. It wasn’t the time of year or weather to use the outdoor seating; however a further degree of seclusion was really needed here.

  • "Had a great time here."

Graham the owner is lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. Cottage is huge but very cosy and comfy. It is in a good position to explore the area. Kitchen and bathroom a little dark but Graham is on this to replace the lighting. Thanks again for a great place to stay. Shane and Julie

About the location

KNARESBOROUGH

Harrogate 2 miles; York 18 miles.

Knaresborough is an ancient market and Spa town on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, overlooking the River Nidd, and is one of the prettiest towns in North Yorkshire. Its location makes it ideal as a base for touring the stunning countryside of the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. For lovers of history, St John’s Church, Knaresborough House and the now-ruined Knaresborough Castle were built by the Normans in around 1100 AD. Other attractions in the town include Mother Shipton’s petrifying well, the Courthouse Museum, "Ye Oldest Chymist Shoppe in England" which dates back to 1720 and the quirky House in the Rock. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy wonderful walks by the river, cycling, climbing, fishing, boating or just sitting and taking in the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful scenery. The town centre has many interesting shops and galleries, and there is a colourful and lively market held on Wednesdays. The fascinating, historic cathedral cities of Ripon and York are close by, as are the Spa town of Harrogate, the great stately homes of Castle Howard and Harewood House, the Cistercian Abbeys of Fountains, Rievaulx and Jervaulx, and the castles of Middleham, Bolton and Richmond.
