  • "We stayed in Middleham for a wedding and had a really enjoyable stay at this well appointed cottage."

White Swan cottage is right in the centre of Middleham with varied pubs and restaurants in the area to suit all tastes. The cottage was spotless and comfortable - if we had a holiday let, this is how we would want it to be. If you want to be out and about, this is ideal as nowhere picturesque to sit outside. We will certainly stay here again.

The living room was calm and relaxing, the kitchen was well equipped and spotlessly clean and the bedroom we used was very comfortable. I would not hesitate in recommending White Swan Cottage and also Sykes.

  • "The cottage is just off the square, so amenities are very close by."

The fixtures and fittings are of high quality and it's beautifully decorated, but there is a lack of manuals for most of appliances so it was guess work, especially the microwave. The main problem we had was heating, or lack of it. The property has 3 electric radiators, 1 in each of the upstairs bedrooms and 1 downstairs. All of them were in the frost state of 7c, so effectively off. There is a wood burner and 1 bag of logs which we used up that evening trying to get the place warm. During the week we used a further 6 bags as the radiator is only 1kw, so is just background heat. The property should have adequate heating included and the wood burner is optional and not as it is with the stove being the primary source of heat with the customer having to buy most of the fuel. The other option would be to include fuel in the rental. So if you come in winter be prepared to spend £50 on fuel.

  • "Such a beautiful cottage."

Very clean and well-presented with everything we needed. We loved our cosy stay just before Christmas - the log burning fire was perfect! We didn't want to leave and hope to book again. Hosts were helpful with an early check in and recommendations for the local area. Wonderful location - some lovely pubs serving great food and a little shop. Everyone very welcoming.

  • "Lovely cottage and perfect for our family of four, a five year old and nine year old."

Really nicely done and the photos are representative. Plenty of things closeby to do and see. The owners came and delivered us some logs and firelighters as we were running low and quickly sorted which was really kind of them. Despite being tucked away, we had a food delivery arrive without any issues and parking closeby was really easy for our car. If you eat to explore the Yorkshire Dales look no further. We'd return without doubt and we made wonderful memories whilst we were here. Lovely hamper left for us on arrival too which was a really beautiful touch. Thank you for letting us stay.

  • "The cottage is lovely and comfortable and cosy."

We did have to wash the glasses and cutlery on arrival as they were not clean. My issue is the location of the property, the village of Middleham is lovely, however the property is located behind the pub/hotel. There were staff sitting outside smoking, cars parked and the noise that goes with a pub/hotel. It said in the folder at the property that the small table and chair could be taken outside but there is no way anyone would want to sit outside and look at rubbish bins etc. There were 2 of us staying which was perfect, I would say 3 maximum for comfort, 4 would be a squash as there is only one toilet and shower and not really enough space for 4 to sit and eat in comfort. The beds were comfortable as were the sofas and lovely to have a log burner.

A really lovely comfortable cottage which was very well equipped. We will want to return. Guests should be informed about the current problem with the local TV transmitter in advance until it is fixed..The owner helped us to get to the terrestrial ‘ players’ and we added the detail to the guest information in the cottage.

  • "Absolute gem of a cottage in the most perfect location."

The cottage was immaculately clean and well presented. Middleham is a fantastic location with lots of places to eat and drink on the doorstep. Wonderful to see all the racehorses going through the village. We never usually go to the same place twice but last year we stayed in the cottage next door (which we believe to be the same owners) and we were so impressed we decided to try this one. Both were absolutely perfect. We’ll be back again. Cannot fault a single thing.

Comfy beds and lovely log burner for the colder days! It is located behind the Wensleydale Hotel with parking available on the main market square. It was lovely and private but is right in the heart of Middleham. Great location for walks and only a minute from the pubs and local shop. Will definitely be back.

  • "The cottage is lovely & the wine & cookies were nice on arrival."

The information received about check in time was 3pm. However the cleaners were just finishing when we arrived at 3.50pm. They told us the time should have been changed to 4pm. It would be helpful if the cottage had a designated parking place. The village is very busy & we struggled to park a couple of times. Despite the cottage been lovely don’t expect a nice view or a garden. However don’t be put off if you’re just happy to be out & about.

Thank you for your feedback. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry for the mix up with the check in time this should have been provided to you, due to an admin error this was. Have updated for all future bookings. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was beautifully and well equipped."

One of those rare finds where it’s like being in your own home, with every gadget, pan, spoon, glass, domestic and entertainment appliance. The beds were comfy and the towels big and fluffy. The location is behind a hotel, as someone else noted, and there are some dustbins and rest areas, but everything was neat and tidy and staff were discreet and very pleasant. I really wouldn’t let this put you off. In fact being tucked away really made you realise that you were staying in a hugely historic, Mediaeval village where everything is incredibly higgledy piggledy. The huge plus of this tucked away location is the peace. Middleham is a busy little place in the day and quiet in the evening, but by staying off the road you were quiet throughout the day and night. It was fascinating to see the huge number of racehorses and their stables; the scenery around is stunning and their are lots of walks from the door. This was a really fabulous cottage with every amenity. One complaint...we had to leave

The owners have refurbished it with great care and attention to detail; everything was perfect, in fact I could have moved in and lived there quite happily! Excellent range of equipment and facilities. It might be an idea to provide an itinerary of what is available which would save guests bringing unnecessary items (e.g. foil, toilet rolls, tea, coffee etc) and then having to take these item back home. We had a wonderful time. Thankyou.
