  • "Lovely cottage, we had a wonderful stay!"

Well equipped with everything you need. The furniture in the lounge is not as advertised, however there was only me and my poodle so it was fine. Just one small 'irk' was the shower. The first time I used it I tried to alter the height and the bar came off in my hand

A beautiful market town in a stunning area. The cottage is spacious and quaint and had everything required for a self catering stay. Good communication and detail from the owner and through the booking agency. Lovely consideration of the owner contact in view of the second bedroom to be made into a twin or a double room. We had a fantastic stay.

I informed her that the last occupants at cottage hadn't cleaned BBQ out and she apologised for this. I also said there were no extra logs left on shelving outside. Jo said she would stock-up this. Fortunately I had taken enough supply of logs. Overall a lovely cottage, but noisy early doors due to butchers workshop.

There was a smell in the living area, this could be stale smoke from the fire, which we did not use, although the sofa's and cushions also had the same smell, it could also have been stale smoke from cigarettes also. It was quite off putting. fortunately the weather was nice and we were out of the cottage a lot any way. The dinning table was also not really suitable if you were eating or cooking, we didn't, we ate out both nights. The beds were comfy and the rooms were large and bright, the bathroom was great also, the shower had little pressure but was hot. The outside garden space is also a great addition, although a bit of love and care would make this more inviting to sit in. Overall, we would stay again.

  • "Wonderful cottage in the beautiful market town of Masham."

The cottage has everything needed for a home from home stay, (can’t comment on cooking facilities as apart from the toaster and kettle we didn’t use any). The cottage is very close to all the amenities and has three very good pubs, all of which serve food. Although we visited in a quieter time of year, booking tables for evening meals was still a good idea as they got very busy. There is a market Wednesday and Saturday. The Saturday market was excellent, (fantastic bakery stall which was great as local bakery was closed), the Wednesday market was much smaller. Visits to both breweries is highly recommend as is a visit to Thorp Pellow Arboretum and Bird of Prey & Mammal Centre. The owner is very friendly and extremely helpful, giving detailed instructions to locate the cottage and answering emails extremely quickly. If we had one complaint it would be that the week went too quickly, but I am sure that we will return to Masham and when we do Grommit Cottage will be our destination.

  • "We very much enjoyed our stay in Gromit Cottage and Masham."

The location is excellent - with independent shops, pubs serving food and a Co-Op just a few minutes walk away. The cottage was easy to look after and, in early April, a comfortable base in which to spend time when the weather turned cold and wet. We particularly appreciated the very helpful text that Jo sent us the day before we travelled with a screen shot of the access to the property. There are lots of walks around Masham and it is an excellent base to access the Dales. We really enjoyed our visits to the Black Sheep Brewery (just a couple of minutes walk away) and to the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park at Grewelthorpe (a short drive away). We mostly catered for ourselves (and highly recommend the sausages from Beaver's) but we had excellent evening meals and friendly service at the Bruce Arms and the Bay Horse Inn.

  • "Well located and generally warm and comfortable house (except for the 2 armchairs!"

).We were greeted by the disagreeable odour of fish, which is obviously beyond the owner's control, but it fortunately disappeared over a couple of days. In terms of maintenance, there were blown bulbs outside and in the kitchen and bathroom. I can see why the cleaner might not have noticed but maybe check lighting even in daylight? Despite my nit-picking, we're going back so we clearly were not dissatisfied overall!

everything we needed to cook, kitchen well equipped. nice and easy to reach the market square and the Bruce pub was lovely. The only downfall with this cottage is that there are some workshops in the lane and they would start work anywhere from 5am in the morning and no consideration for the residents. • "Had a lovely time staying at Gromit Cottage."

The owner was very helpful and accomodating with a last minute request. House was lovely and comfortable, and so close to the amenites of Masham (Co-op literally 30 seconds walk away, the pubs & shops only a few minutes walk). Parking for 2 cars was very handy. Some lovely walks around Masham, plus there's a paddock near to the church where we could let our dog off the lead safely as it's fenced in and there's no livestock. My only moan, was the noise from the neighbours! The gentleman with the butchers van parked across from us had 6:30am starts (even on a Saturday!) and wasn't particularly quiet about it, and the next door neighbours liked to test their doors were definitely shut at 7am! But this wouldn't stop us from returning, we'd just bring ear plugs next time. I also suggest booking a table at the pubs for weekend evenings (although you can't do this in the bar areas with a dog) as one finished serving food 3 hours early due to a large booking, and another wasn't taking walk ins even though it was empty. We did however have a delicious late lunch at the Bruce Arms on the day we arrived. The service was excellent and it had a lovely fire going when it was freezing outside. There's also some lovely local shops, such as the bakery, butchers and greengrocers. Would highly recommend staying at Gromit Cottage.

I was told they do not lay eggs on food. I had to move out of the bedroom to another room because of them. It would have been nice if was on the information about the cottage and then I would not have booked it. I broke off my holiday 2 days earlier and only got a Sorry. If you dont like flies do not book it or have your holiday spoilt

I am very sorry about the flies and that you cut short your break. We haven't had this problem previously. Researching into it, the flies are Cluster flies that come into the loft space when the weather turns cold and then appear in the bedroom on sunny/warm days. I have been doing everything I can this week to eradicate them. They are not harmful to humans. Please see the attached link for more information about them - https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/article/899/Cluster-flies. Property Owner

It is nicely situated for all local amenities. It was handy being able to park outside too. The village is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay there. This was the first cottage we have booked that did not have a welcome pack for guests. Also we found the downstairs seating uncomfortable and the leather on the two chairs was cracked and worn. We noticed in the guest book that a previous visitor had mentioned cobwebs, and we did actually notice some on the stair well and in the main bedroom. We were told there wasn’t a barbecue at the cottage despite seeing this in the photos. The barbecue was in the yard but was in a terrible state with rust. We feel we just wanted to make you aware of these small issues as we did pay more than we usually do for our break with Sykes. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. We try to remove the cobwebs and spiders when we clean but, in a property like this and at this time of year, sometimes the spiders win the battle. The racks for the BBQ are kept in the kitchen (to the side of the fridge) to keep them from rusting, I will make a note in the welcome folder so that they are easily located. Property Owner

Located in the rolling countryside of Lower Wensleydale, Masham provides a perfect base to explore the rest of the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. The accommodation itself was clean and well equipped with a particularly large shower/bathroom and a small outside area with table and chairs for al-fresco dining. Just one criticism however - larger bath towels would be a good improvement.

There were some lovely little independent shops in Masham and a twice weekly market. We also enjoyed walking through the graveyard, following the yellow arrows across a field and back round in a circle, to the road with a snicket at the end, leading to Theakston's Brewery (which is more or less back home in Black Bull Yard, where Gromit Cottage is situated) Couldn't fault the cottage at all. The outside of the cottage looked welcoming with the addition of a flower box and there is plenty of space for two cars to park. The access road is used to drop off the occasional delivery for the Co-Op (just round the corner) but these deliveries were within normal business hours and were not noisy. A couple of garages also share access but again, we did not experience any noise during the time that we were at the cottage. The location of the cottage is fantastic, right in the centre of Masham but, being behind the main street, in a quiet spot. It was also an advantage to have dedicated parking. I don't recall seeing this in the description of the cottage facilities but it might be worth knowing that in addition to the upstairs bathroom, there is also a downstairs toilet.
