  • "The cottage is lovely."

The coffee, tea provided was good, but some milk. could have been in the fridge. One toilet roll , for a week is a bit miserly.. Although parking is possible in front of cottage it is quite awkward and can be parked on by other people. This cottage would not be suitable for us, again ..

  • "It's a small cottage with a steep staircase."

Safe parking outside the cottage is virtually impossible (unless you have a very small car) as space is very limited. As we are in our 70s we returned to the cottage mid afternoon to relax and read. The extreme traffic noise made this difficult as the stream of heavy tractors and lorries continued all day and was very intrusive. It's such a shame as the cottage is in a good position for the places we visited but we wouldn't return.

  • "A lovely, super clean little cottage in the heart of Middleham."

Really handy for so many places, almost the centre of a hub, and the horses going by in the morning were a sight to behold. The shower room was excellent, but the lack of anywhere to hang clothes was a major problem. One hook on the back of the main bedroom door is simply not enough, though there was a cupboard to store folded items. It was also quite noisy there, with huge tractors going by from 6am until bedtime non stop, hopefully it was just harvest time, but there is still a lot of other traffic thundering by all day, and with no pavements outside to walk on made it a bit tricky at times. I don't want to sound negative about the cottage as it was really sweet, quite old and the cottage is nice, but the noise and the lack of hanging space was a problem for us. The village has three pubs, the Richard III has a curry night which was fab with a great atmosphere and the 'Cover Bridge' pub a mile away has a garden next to the river, the gammon and chips was a massive portion and very tasty. The three antique shops and the castle are all worth a look too. If you like lots of atmosphere and a busy place then this is perfect, if you want peace and quiet then not so as it is a busy and vibrant working town after all.

This time was for seven and we had a great time. Became a home from home. The facilities are excellent and had fun playing some of the games provided when we had spare time to fill. It's a good base to explore the Yorkshire Dale's and further afield.

  • "Cottage was lovely and exactly as described on website."

A small welcome pack would have been a nice touch, as most holiday home owners do provide these. There is a beautiful open fire and a small amount of fuel as a starter pack would have been appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback, Wendy. I'm so pleased you like the cottage. We do normally leave teas, coffees, milk and a starter pack of logs for the fire. It was an oversight on our part if they weren't there. My apologies. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage we had a really lovely stay."

The village was so lovely and welcoming like stepping back in time and the horses trotting through were a real treat. We were grateful for the little welcome sheet that was sent prior to our stay and we utilised it so much covering most of the recommendations. This was really helpful as we haven't been to the area before and there are so many hidden gems. The choice of places to eat was fab in middleham and leyburn and the convenience of the pub at the end of the road was really nice after a day's walking they also make a lovely cup of tea! We loved leyburn and would recommend the black swan for a Hearty pub lunch, and the little cake shop 'Tiers and Sprinkles' does the best scones with clotted cream and jam. Our dog loved the open fire in the evening and this was so lovely on an autumn evening with a glass of wine. I would recommend this cottage to anyone, it's a great base to explore Yorkshire, the people are so friendly everywhere we went from the pubs, chippy, and attractions we had a proper yorkshire welcome.

  • "This is a cottage of two halves, upstairs is superb and akin to a first class hotel, with a beautiful bathroom and superb shower with lots of hot water and large fluffy white towels."

The bed was extremely comfortable with pristine white linen. There were however dog hairs on the upstairs carpets. Downstairs the kitchen was fine however the sitting room was dowdy with very little natural light which was not helped by the dark furnishings. The smart tv isn’t - it is a portable size tv with a Chromecast dongle which is not very successful so we resorted to watching television on our individual iPads. The biggest issue was the relentless barking of the two dogs next door: this went on from early morning. It was also clearly obvious that the owners of the dogs did not like having a holiday rental next door. We also found parking an issue however we do have a very big car so this probably wouldn’t be an issue for everyone.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I'm delighted you liked the upstairs so much. You are the second person to mention the size of the TV recently so we've got a new, larger Smart TV to install as soon as we can. The rest of the living room is exactly as shown in the photos. I'm sorry if you were worried about the neighbours; we've always had a perfectly cordial relationship with them but I understand they were actually in the process of moving out that week, so perhaps they and the dogs were a little more stressed than usual. Thank you again for leaving a review. Property Owner

A wonderful find, tastefully decorated, very clean, comfortable and the owners provided all the info we needed and tea coffee and biscuits to welcome us . Situated very close to Middleham square there is ample parking. One review had mentioned small landing and steep stairs, form my perspective the landing was ample and my 92 year old mother managed the stairs perfectly well as there is a sturdy handrail! So glad we stayed here.

  • "Here's the good bits and the areas for improvement - Good bits, loved the open fire for those cooler nights, and supply of kindling, wood, and logs - the local shop wasn't dear to replenish supplies; enjoyed the sun trap rear courtyard; kitchen was well equipped and the supply of basics, like washing up liquid/brush-sponges/cleaning sprays/cling film, salt & pepper, tea & coffee etc was excellent."

beds very comfy, & wifi was good. Areas for improvement - TV was v small; front bedroom was very noisy from traffic early morning (5am onwards) - fast revving vehicles early doors - window looks like it previously had a double glazing panel fitted which needs repairing/replacing - must have been broken as only one of the two sliding internal window panels remains, which has no effect at all - disturbed sleep every night sadly. The rear court yard could have done with a good sweep and brush up (clumps of moss fallen from the roof for example), and a couple of sun loungers in the small shed wouldn't go amiss - after a days walking, it would have been nice to relax more comfortably in the suntrap courtyard; The bathroom sink would have been a fail on Four in a Bed - there was a reddish coloured stain/mould around the sink pop up plug. Also, it is a pet/dog friendly venue, which is great - a medium sized plastic tub for a dog bath for use in the rear courtyard, could have been left in the under the stairs cupboard, for use in case of need - not always easy to keep a dog clean on wet days -just a thought, not a complaint.

Thank you for your feedback. To explain the bedroom window - we were having new, extra sound-proof secondary glazing fitted on your arrival day and unfortunately they cracked a pane as they were installing it. I'm sorry you didn't get the benefit. The glazing is now fully installed. I am pleased you got to enjoy the courtyard in the sunshine and that you liked the extras we try to provide. I will pass on your comments about the plughole to our cleaners. They are 5* award-winners so will be horrified to hear it. Thanks for your other suggestions - very useful food for thought. The racehorses are a great attraction and it was lovely to see and hear them again. There was a real buzz around the town this week due to the Cheltenham Gold Cup event. Busy road extremely noisy you mention the Horses only wish it had been just horses they were amazing to see and riders very polite how they cope with the through traffic I can’t think. The back kitchen and bedroom modern windows much less noise. The size of property especially the small landing and steep stairs should be mentioned we did not think it suitable for less able or young children (despite your past customer quote on the site) the only addition should be a Microwave! Who needs to warm breakfast milk in a saucepan! The town pub restaurants were very good the walk to the Gallops was lovely we have been to the Dales many times but never Middleham if only it was restful and relaxing we would go again. Most certainly Yorkshire has so much beautiful scenery to offer. Thankyou

Dear Mrs Stockill, We're so sorry about that. We normally leave guests with plenty of loo roll and tea towels as well as a welcome pack, nice soap, tea and coffee etc. Unfortunately the mix up regarding arrival times meant our cleaner couldn't do a last check of the house before you settled in and so wasn't aware you were missing some essentials. I understand she invited you to call her if you needed anything but I also appreciate you wouldn't have known that's what we normally provide. I do hope that didn't put too much of a damper on your stay and that you enjoyed the village and the cottage overall. Kind regards Claire Property Owner

The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away offering a variety of great shops and pubs, or why not take some time to explore The Forbidden Corner, a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises set amidst 4 acres of grounds, providing a fun day out for all the family?
