  • "We were well looked after by Rodger & Hillary who provided good advice and sound knowledge of the area."

Rodger was particularly helpful and communications throughout was excellent. The cottage was a 'no frills' but very adequate base, situated in a delightful, small, countryside town, with great views, (particularly stunning in the snow). It was within easy reach of many local and nearby attractions, all making our stay memorable and leaving us with wanting to return.

Middleham with 4 hotels within 200 yards of the cottage , a wonderful castle, 2 teashops , walks straight from village and the spectacle all morning of racehorses trotting through on their way to the gallops is a memorable place to stay

Set in the small town in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales it’s a great place to tour the area. We would recommend this cottage which is ideal for 2 people.

It was exactly as described, and with great views. The log burner was a very welcome addition and we made good use of it, making the cottage very cosy. Rodger the owner was extremely helpful with luggage etc. and very knowledgeable on the area and places to visit. All in all a good and relaxing week was had and couldn’t fault the accommodation whatsoever.

  • "Lovely property in beautiful surroundings."

Rodger, the owner, made us very welcome and provided us with useful information regarding walking , eating out and places to visit. The cottage is perfect to get away from it all, cosy log fires, the sheep in the field outside, friendly pubs right on your doorstep and seeing the racehorses going through the village on their way to and from the gallops each day., all this and a castle too.

  • "We found the cottage clean & in a delightful setting."

The owner was very helpful & we appreciated him ringing to allow us in before the stated time of 5pm & giving us help with our luggage. However we were not aware that parking was not near to the cottage but through garden paths. My husband has difficulty walking so found this a bit daunting especially when the paths were wet. We would recommend The Summer Palace to a fiitter , younger couple . It was lovely sitting out on the patio watching the sheep grazing beyond the fence.

The cottage is wonderfully cosy and very well equipped. We do a lot of self catering holidays and this is the best equipped place we have stayed. The views are lovely and there is plenty of good walking from the property. You do not have to travel far if you want a bit more hustle and bustle - Leyburn is 4-5 minutes in the car if you want a larger selection of food and drinks from what is available in the local stores at Middleham. When you read the visitor book, there are lots of repeat holiday makers and it is easy to see why. The cottage is lovely, there was a pile of logs ready from the log burner and Hillary and Rodger can give you lots of local knowledge and advice.

We said from the start we had alot of medical equipment as my husband does home dialysis. I was concerned when I got there that I wouldn't cope getting the equiptment to the property The owner Hilary took us down to show us the cottage and her husband completely emptied the car for us . You dont see that sort or service and kindness these days they were unbelievable. We were expecting a medical delivery of several heavy boxes also and that had already arrived and he had carried all of those down for us as well . We couldn't thank them enough.

Middleham is a good base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales but is also a great place to wander around and enjoy the local area and pubs which serve excellent meals. The owners are a delight and very helpful for any questions we had. Parking was easy and available with one allocated space. We really enjoyed this quiet location and enjoyed the views of the garden "field" and vegetable garden. We enjoyed seeing pheasants in the garden and the tranquility of the grounds. Middleham has a wonderful choice of pubs and around the town within a mile, and an easy drive to Leyburn. However, there is a general shop within walking distance from the cottage. Middleham is a great place to walk around and explore by foot. Internet is fast and reliable in the cottage, so you can explore on line or use one of the many helpful guide books/maps in the cottage itself, and there are books in the cottage if you left yours at home! Thank you again to our wonderful hosts for making our stay a delight.
