  • "We had a great stay at this cottage."

Everything was clean and comfortable. The beds were extremely comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals including a roast dinner. The cottage was warm and homely. The downstairs bedroom with walk in shower was particularly helpful for one of our party with limited mobility. Highly recommended.

Thank you,I am really pleased you had a good stay at Eastburn Cottage! Property Owner

  • "It would help to have some brief notes on how to use MW,Fire,Aga this would avoid rummaging through all the manufacturers leaflets."

Please advise the owners that the kettle is leaking from the bottom of the water gauge with this water going into the kettle switch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a lovely cottage which is very well equipped and we have already recommended it to friends.

  • "What a fabulous holiday cottage."

Everything had been well thought out and provided. The log burner was a wonderful bonus especially as we were there during Storm Arwen and had power cuts so at least we were lovely and warm. The Street Head Inn was a short 6 min. walk away through the lane - the food was wonderful and staff very friendly - we ate there four times and would recommend. We would recommend this cottage - a lovely warm comfortable stay.

  • "Lovely cottage in a lovely little village."

Cottage had all we needed. Just one improvement would be a shower curtain around the shower in the bathroom. Everything else was fine. Good location for walking and not far to visit interesting places. A good week. Thank you.

  • "There was absolutely no instructions how to use any of the appliances."

Everything was more luck than judgement never been anywhere without basic welcome info. Also you stated all fuel included in price including the log burner but it wasn't and had to drive around to find some logs and sticks. Any fuel used had to be replace note on board said so this needs amending in your info.

Lovely neighbours with animals horses, cows and cats. A real country experience. Lovely local walks. Pubs very popular and need to be booked for evening meals. Delightful views.

The owners seem to update something yearly so not having been for I think 5 years we saw a big improvement in an already lovely comfortable property.

  • "Lovely cottage, warm, clean, well equipped, authentic."

We had lots of rain but the utility room worked a treat to dry everything. Great multi fuel burner which was fun to light but not essential to keep the place warm. The books and games were packed away due to COVID but that just reduced the number of contact points and made me feel more reassured that everything was properly clean. We took bikes and they fitted neatly in the lockable shed. Would definitely go back.

  • "This beautiful, well appointed cottage is in an idyllic, peaceful location right in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales."

The cottage is extremely clean and comfortable with plenty of fuel for the log burner for cosy nights. The local pub (Streethead Inn) serves tasty meals and is only 5 minutes walk away. Due to COVID guidelines, we took our own cushions, fleeces and games for the cosy lounge. We had a fabulous week. The only thing we could have done with was instructions for the oven. Possibly laminated to make them COVID friendly, therefore cleanable.

Cottage spacious, warm, very clean and well equipped, very comfortable and peaceful. Good location for walks in the Dales. Great to have carparking too. Caretaker person very friendly ( even tho this could only be by text in the current circumstances!). We would book here again

  • "Beautiful cottage catering to our every need."

We went over the Xmas period and the owner put up a tree and left us a poinsettia, some white roses, and Prosecco. The log fire and Rayburn oven made this extra special. it felt like a home rather than a holiday property. would definitely recommend.

  • "Eastburn Cottage was very comfortable, clean and had lovely views."

We had a problem with the downstairs TV but this was quickly dealt with and we had no other problems. We visited a variety of visitor attractions - James Herriott museum in Thirsk which was very good and we liked Thirsk itself very much. We also enjoyed the Wensleydale Creamery and the Ropemakers in Hawes. We were unable to visit everything we wanted this time but we would stay at Eastburn Cottage again and would recommend it to others. We definitely liked the slower pace and less traffic of the Yorkshire Dales.

  • "The cottage is an excellent and well cared for property in a delightfully scenic part of the Dales."

Although a car is necessary to reach local towns there are interesting walks readily accessible right from the cottage door. If you have 2 cars parking in the space by the cottage is tight but just opposite on the other side of the road is a space in front of a garage that is owned by Eastburn Cottage that enables a second car to be parked satisfactorily. The dining space in the kitchen is a bit tight when the table is pulled out and extended but we managed relatively easily even though there were 7 of us. The garden is small but well kept and is perfectly adequate for sitting out in the sun if you are enjoying fine weather during your stay. If you are not, then the utility room with its drying facilities is a real boon. We would be happy to return to this property at some time in the future.

  • "Lots of room in this beautifully presented cottage."

Loved the outside space, views and the peace and quiet. Very quiet location but ideally placed for access to local amenities and central for activities. Having 2 bedrooms en-suite was a bonus although the shower in the downstairs bedroom had low water pressure, just took longer. Would definitely revisit this fabulous property.

Well equipped and very warm and cozy. Easy access to all pints in the Dales, such as Hawes, Leyburn and Reeth. Small, but perfectly kept garden. Parking a little tight for 2 cars. All in all we greatly enjoyed our stay.

  • "A brilliant Christmas stay with the family."

Lots of space for us all and the cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. Loved the Aga stove and so easy to use. We cooked a perfect xmas day lunch between Aga and conventional oven. The Street Head Inn just down the lane was great and so friendly and welcoming. Also the residents in Newbiggin always had a friendly wave for you. Such a lovely cottage in a lovely place, we would love to come back again in the future.

Possibly the best-equipped cottage we have ever stayed at - how often does a cottage provide a citrus zester? We had a wonderful holiday and especially enjoyed swimming in the many local waterfalls.

  • "I would have rated the cottage more highly, but the bathroom hot water supply and therefore the shower there, failed to work, meaning we had to share showers with other guests."

This problem was obviously known before the booking was made as it is a long-standing problem, I understand. We should have been informed about it beforehand and not when we arrived. It is a breach of trust to offer an facility that is known to be malfunctioning.

About the location

Leyburn 7 miles; Hawes 9 miles.

In lower Bishopdale, where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape, the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. Although Newbiggin means 'New Buildings', the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the Dales. This pretty and ancient village in the heart of Wensleydale is situated in truly beautiful countryside, with old stone cottages set out in a long line through a minor road that wends its way through the village. This is a walker's paradise, with wonderful Dales countryside, magnificent views and the small, but spectacular Cauldron Falls still delighting visitors since the days when the great artist, J M W Turner, captured its watery magic. The local pub is set on the outskirts of the village and serves fine ales and excellent homemade cuisine. There is also an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market towns of Hawes and Leyburn.
