  • "The owner was lovely and very welcoming."

We loved the fact she just left us to get on with our stay as they're some hosts that are always making themselves known they are there. The place itself was beautiful and warm and cosy and it really did feel like home away from home. The hot tub was amazing we used it both night we was there and after our travel to there and the stressful Saturday morning we had, having to replace 2 tyres on the car, it was just what we needed to unwind and de-stress. We 100% recommend this place and will most certainly be booking again for some time in near future.

The accommodation was beautiful, clean and well equipped in rural surroundings but not too far to venture out in the car to the nearby villages. The hot tub was easy to use, my only recommendation would be to have robes for getting out. We hope to return at some point. Thank you Claire & Steve.

  • "Claire and Paul’s place was exactly what we were looking for plus more!"

Before booking we fell in love with what the place looked like but to our surprise it was even better in person. It was spacious with its high ceiling but it still managed to retain its cosy feel. Everything about it was perfect, from the underfloor heating which provided an ambient heat to the moveable corner on the corner sofa and pillows which allowed us to set up our own ‘corner’ in front of the smart TV. The wood fire hot tub was one of our highlights as we indulged in it under the clear night sky. As 2 Londoners who had never worked a fireplace in our lives it was super easy to use once we got the hang of it. Likewise the indoor fireplace was equally as charming which we used at night when the temperature dropped. Their grounds are also quite impressive. We got quite lucky with the weather so went on a walk around the place and saw their waterfalls and from the open plan lounge area/kitchen you could see pheasants in the bushes just outside as well as deer and we could even hear their barn owl. Once it got dark we could hide ourselves away in private with the sliding barn door. That along with the remote control blinds meant we were completely shut off from the outside world. The batteries in the remote for the blinds were on its last legs but once you gave it a few rubs in worked briefly. On the note of privacy there is an identical set up next door on the other side but you don’t even realise they’re there which was great. The place seems to be (at least somewhat) soundproofed and we even tested it out by playing music through the speakers which you couldn’t hear from outside once the door was closed. We booked this stay for my girlfriend’s birthday so we could disconnect in nature and just be alone together. We loved it so much that we’ll be booking it again for my birthday (longer this time) once we figure out our annual leave. 10/10 hosts who explained everything to us and remained invisible (in a good way) whilst being just a WhatsApp away if we needed anything. The guestbook instructions were quite clear though so we didn’t need them which allowed us to have our phones off the whole time. They even left us some vegan snacks and a list of restaurants with vegan options in case we wanted to eat out when I mentioned we were both vegan!

  • "We had a fabulous week at Ash Bank."

Claire and Steve had thought of everything we could have needed and provided so many extras, more than any other cottage we have stayed in. From the Prosecco, ice creams, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and marshmallows, crisps, tea, coffee, sugar and toiletries to name a few. The property was spacious and comfortable, the beds were so comfortable to sleep in. Claire greeted us and showed us how to heat the hot tub which we used a couple of times during our stay. Their surrounding land is beautiful and we eventually found their waterfall which was beautiful. We saw owls, pheasants, squirrels and deer as well as the resident sheep. We found it to be a good base to visit places, we called into Silsden, Harrogate, Knaresborough, we drove to Settle and got the train to Carlisle as well as spending time at the property. The only small negatives were getting used to the narrow roads and steep hills, being from south Lincolnshire we are not used to driving up such steep inclines. Thanks again Claire and Steve we highly recommend Ash Bank.

  • "My wife and I were looking for a last-minute holiday at a property that had a hot tub."

We found Ash Bank on Google and were a bit dubious of Sykes Cottages as we both never heard of the website before and weren't sure if the reviews under the cottage were legitimate. Booking.com and other more well-known holiday booking websites also had the listing, but the reviews were slim to none. We took a gamble and booked the cottage and we're glad to say, we had an incredible time! The cottage was clean, modern, and located in a beautiful, serene location. We were arriving via train as we both don't currently possess a car as we live near Leeds city centre and can walk to most locations. Claire, the host, offered to pick us up from the nearby train station which was greatly appreciated! She showed us around the property and informed us on how to use the wood-fired hot tub. Prosecco was also given to us for free which was greatly appreciated. She also had a folder filled with information and activities of the surrounding area and recommendations for places to eat in nearby Silsden. For those looking to relax surrounded by peaceful nature and those that might want to have a scenic hike in the Ilkley Moor will have an amazing time!

Claire (the owner) met us to show how the gate worked, how to light the wood fired hot tub, to tell us a bit about the area and answer any questions and then gave us her mobile number in case of any questions or problems and then left us to it. The barn was extremely comfortable and homely and everything was in pristine condition. Ash Bank is attached to another property and I wondered if we would hear the neighbours but we didn't hear them at all and only saw them once as they drove past one morning so it is very private. The views from the property are stunning and there's so much to see and do in the area, highlights included, Malham Cove, Bolton Abbey, Brimham Rocks, Grassington, tea at Betty's Tea Rooms and a visit to a brilliant independent cinema in Ilkley. There are also numerous inviting pubs in the area too and the pizza takeaway at the local Italian in Silsden was excellent (couldn't get a table at the restaurant as it was fully booked for the night we wanted mid-week!). I really couldn't fault Ash Bank, we had a wonderful weeks holiday and would definitely recommend.

Karen summed up your property in one word. A holiday home that has ability for the mind to do "cart wheels" as it has a 5* feeling. You both have put much thought into EVERY DETAIL to make our holiday a breeze from the advanced holiday info / instructions via emails to present day. Cottage is super quiet, with nice privacy and no noise intrusion from neighbours. Even the air quality around your estate is refreshing / invigorating aids my inherent restricted lung capacity disability. Cottage has very high water quality / strong & stable water pressure is evident, mesmerising day time views as well as night time star gazing and the list goes on ...!!! The wifi strength & distance is perfect reaches jacuzzi area easily. The jacuzzi is very relaxing and aids deep sleep. I am inspired by your building style, home gadgets and like the durability of decor you chosen. The guest home manual/ maps you collated has all information required. THANK YOU for the staycation. • "Ash Bank Jacobs Barn - Silsden, Yorkshire Host Claire did everything and more to make sure we were settled had everything we needed for our stay."

We spoke with her before our visit for her to ask if there was anything we needed before we arrived and arrange our check in time, and as this trip was booked for our Mini-moon she even decorated the barn for our arrival which was lovely and very unexpected. We arrived with the hot tub already warmed and ready to go and she showed us the facilities and made suggestions on local places to visit plus a really helpful folder with all the information inside. If there was anything we needed she was only a text message away which was much appreciated. Location The cottage can be found near the village of Silsden, Keighley. The barn is slightly out the village but is very peaceful and quiet. There are plenty of local shops (Asda, Aldi, Coop, Tesco extra) as well as local eateries including Busfeild Arms pub and the amazing Italian Stefanos (definitely phone up and get booked into this place for your stay). Easy travel to other places in Yorkshire including train to Leeds from Keighley train station (for great food and shopping, if you like Japanese there is a new restaurant called Blue Sukura which comes highly recommended also). There are lots of local walks, one of which was the nicest walk straight from the barn which takes you past lots of waterfalls and over the farmers fields. Beautiful views from the barn and chance to see the stars at night. Facilities The barn has been decorated beautifully and is very modern inside with all sorts of amenities you would need including oven microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer etc and including smaller things that you would usually forget to bring with you like tea towel, or washing tablets. Outside facilities of course the best being the wood fired hot tub which once shown how if you’re a first timer was easy to use and keep warm. Lots of outside furniture and the choice of using a BBQ which in the summer would get lots of use. Overall we would highly recommend this Barn Cottage for a brilliant U.K. holiday. Perfect for couples/friends. We have suggested this place since our visit to many people and would definitely return for another relaxing staycation.

The cleanliness was outstanding and everything was in excellent working order. The wood fired hot tub was another amazing feature and we really enjoyed stoking this up and enjoying the experience of an evening.

  • "This cottage was amazing."

Although it was semi-detached the layout and build quality means you are totally unaware of neighbours. Claire kept in touch by text to see if we needed anything which was helpful without being intrusive. The welcome pack of milk, butter, biscuits and homemade bread, as well as tea, coffee, condiments and Prosecco was very welcoming. The information pack in the cottage told us all we needed to know and the recommendations of local eating places and shops was really helpful. We had guests join us for a couple of days during the week, which we had asked Claire about before hand and she said it was no problem and made up the second bedroom as a double before we arrived. There is nothing that could be improved at the cottage except perhaps a mosquito zapper as I did get bitten when using the hot tub at dusk, but watching the bats and the barn owls was worth it.

Welcome pack lovely. Area beautiful. Home Away from home, well thought out. Log burner lovely and cosy on colder nights. Hot tub OK, our preference would have been a jacuzzi type but this one did the job. There is a lovely woodland waterfall walk right close to lodge, worths walk. A beautiful restful place to chill.

The place was lovely, the view was gorgeous and the owner is absolutely delightful. We was welcomed with a smile, and a surprise bottle of Prosecco waiting for us (which we enjoyed in the hot tub which was already warmed up for us), we were left to our own devices but if we needed anything it was clearly never any trouble. The cottage was immaculate and finished to a very high standard. Nothing but high praise.

  • "The property was beautiful and exactly as described."

Claire was a fabulous host & nothing was too much trouble. We arrived on a snowy Friday night in February to a really warm welcome - the house was beautifully decorated, superbly well equipped and really snug. The hot tub was heating up & Steve graciously kept stoking the fire until it was ready for us. There were really thoughtful treats and supplies left for us, along with clear guidance on how to use everything and suggestions for places to go. The recommended Indian takeaway delivered a delicious curry, the beds were wonderfully comfortable, the shower was powerful and the log burner was divine. A really luxurious treat for a group of old friends... many thanks.

Absolutely everything was completely perfect about the accommodation and the location for our trip. Everything had been thought of, there was prosecco, milk, biscuits, butter and a warm loaf of home made bread on arrival. There was also an endless supply of wood for the log burner and the hot tub which was great. We were a bit dubious about the hot tub as we'd never encountered a log fired one before but we are now completely converted! We loved sitting in it at night, drinking our complimentary prosecco and looking up at the stars. The inside of the cottage is finished to a very high standard and decorated beautifully. We stood at the windows for ages, admiring the countryside and we loved that the barn door still functions and could be closed at night, making it even more cosey. All the little finishing touches are fantastic and well thought out and the beds are so comfy. The owners are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They were there to great us and gave us an insight to the area and helped to get the hot tub going. They even went and collected our chinese takeaway as they were getting one aswell. Now thats service! We like to get away each year to celebrate our wedding anniversary and this is by far the best place we've been too and we will certainly come back again.

From the minute we arrived we were blown away. Claire met us at the door to show us round including prosecco, milk, homemade bread and cookies amongst other essentials stocked in the kitchen. The cottage was spotless and had everything we could need and more including endless wood for the log burner and hot tub which was stocked everyday. Steve even cleaned out and refilled and lit the hot tub for us coming in from nearby country walks. The views are stunning! There are so many beautiful walks and villages to explore nearby with tonnes of info inside the cottage on what to do and where to eat. Can not recommend this place highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble and claire and Steve went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay!

  • "Oh my, the most relaxed holiday we have ever had."

The cottage was beautiful, the owners were absolutely wonderful very friendly and very knowledgeable about the surrounding places to visit, they have compiled a folder with maps of the local and surrounding areas to visit which we found extremely helpful. The view from inside and outside the cottage are wonderful. There is plenty of wildlife life right outside your door from Blue tits, Kestrels and buzzards. There are Deer. Then there are Pheasants and Hares who saunter along the footpath just outside your cottage, the owners told us that the pheasants love to be feed and will actually come quite close to you. The hot tub is great you just lay and relax during the day and watch the scenery and listen and watch the birds soar in the sky what more can you ask for and at night time you can sit in the Hot Tub and relax and look up at the stars and listen to all the different wildlife. My husband and I were so impressed with our stay at the cottage that we booked it again for next year and also extended our stay in the adjoining cottage which is also FAB_U_LOUS. Oh I forgot to mention the welcome Home baked bread still warm and a bottle of Wine to wash it down with. Then there's all the local footpaths for you to wander along, if you want to. We highly recommend both these cottages, you wont be disappointed. FIVE GREAT BIG STARS

About the location

SILSDEN

Bolton Abbey 8.5 miles; Ilkley 8.5 miles; Skipton 9 miles.

The pretty town of Silsden, set on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, commands sweeping views of the River Aire and its valley, and has a thriving community with local amenities. Although Silsden was originally an agricultural town, the construction of the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal meant that it later became an important centre for the mill industry, however the local economy is now largely supported by tourism, and it has become a perfect place to stay and explore the local area. Down the Aire Valley lies historic Skipton, known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, a quaint market town boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008, the Academy of Urbanism voted the high street as the best shopping spot in Britain. In the next valley lies Addingham, a thriving, small community with several good pubs serving fine ale and excellent food, a scattering of small shops and a delightful golf course surrounded by breathtaking countryside. Nearby Bolton Abbey is one of the region's most scenic areas and the walk along the river to the Strid is a must. The Victorian Spa town of Ilkley is also worth a visit, with its wide streets, world-famous Box Tree Restaurant and Bettys Tea Rooms, while Ilkley Moor is the subject of Yorkshire's unofficial anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht at”. With steam railways offering regular excursions through stunning scenery, canal day trips, castles and pretty market towns all available nearby, Silsden is a wonderful base for touring the Bronte Country and North and West Yorkshire.
