  • "Just returned from a week at Rowan Bank."

The property is just perfect, situated in surrounding beautiful countryside. No noise - just the wildlife. We had deer, pheasants and barn owls to see from the doorstep. All appliances and facilities were top notch and you wanted for nothing. Nice welcome gifts on arrival. The hot-tub is easy to get going after a lesson and provides a welcoming relax after a day out. There were plenty of logs for the week. Silsden town is very quaint and only a 5 minute drive down a very steep hill. Claire is a perfect host and on hand if you needed advice. You must try Stefanos in the town for lovely Italian food. Perfect base for exploring. Would definitely come back - missing it already. Thank you Claire and Steve.

The barn was exceptionally clean, comfortable and well equipped. The wood fired hot tub was easy to use (once you get used to it) and so nice to ease our achey muscles at the end of the day after walking and running in the local area, whilst taking in the beautiful views. The thoughtful bottle of fizz and other goodies from the helpful owners were also much appreciated. There are stunning walks from the barn up into the hills and along the canal path to Silsden/Riddlesdon. Our teenage daughters loved the high rope course at Raven Tree Top Adventure in Skipton and Harewood House (near Leeds) is worth a visit. Ilkley is great for shopping and can recommend The Olive Branch for authentic Turkish cuisine. Stephano’s in Silsden does fantastic takeaway pizzas. Due to Covid we replaced Alpine mountains with Yorkshire hills but still had a brilliant time - thank you.

The photographs are very accurate but Rowan Bank feels even more beautiful and stylish when you're there. Claire greeted us and as we were arriving a little late due to work, Claire had already started the fire for the hot tub so that it was ready for us to use when we got there. We were then greeted by prosecco, Yorkshire crisps, and homemade bread! The style of the cottage is absolute beautiful and has been finished to such a high standard. The beds are extremely comfortable and the place has everything you could need - hairdryer, towels, iron, wood, butter, milk, hangers, all of the plates and utensils you could need, and more! After utilising the fire and hot tub, which Claire advised us on, Claire then delivered more wood to us the next morning. One night we struggled to get the hot tub warm and after sending Claire a text, her and Steve popped over and got it going for us! They were so helpful and we were so impressed with the service, cottage, and location as a whole package. The views are incredible, even on a rainy day. There is also Netflix on the television which is a great addition whilst sitting around the fire. Absolutely wonderful holiday, the cottage was spotless and well equipped. The owners are, friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The scenery is breath taking. The night time views are spectacular as the surrounding towns lights shine through the trees like Christmas lights twinkling in the dark. It’s very rural feeling without being remote, you wouldn’t believe that just a short drive away, you come to the nearest supermarket and a little further is the Town of Silsden, with a post office a grocery store and a lovely little bridge over Silsden Beck, where you can stop and feed the ducks. The owners have compiled their own folder of nature walks and trails some leading to the 3 magnificent waterfalls, which are picture framed in the cottages. The surrounding area is buzzing with life. Tweeting birds and a whole host of wild birds from partridges and pheasants just to name a few. Not forgetting the wild animals. There are some sheep who like to come for a visit and If you are lucky you can catch a glimpse of the stag. There are plenty of other animals and rodents hiding in the long grass for you to find. We have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our holiday and can’t wait to return next year. We just had to book the cottage again. We can’t praise and thank the owners enough, they have been fantastic, they even got this cottage ready for us so we could extend our stay. Looking forward to coming back. We Highly recommend Rowan Barn and the adjoining Ash Barn Cottage. About the location

SILSDEN

Bolton Abbey 8.5 miles; Ilkley 8.5 miles; Skipton 9 miles.

The pretty town of Silsden, set on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, commands sweeping views of the River Aire and its valley, and has a thriving community with local amenities. Although Silsden was originally an agricultural town, the construction of the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal meant that it later became an important centre for the mill industry, however the local economy is now largely supported by tourism, and it has become a perfect place to stay and explore the local area. Down the Aire Valley lies historic Skipton, known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, a quaint market town boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008, the Academy of Urbanism voted the high street as the best shopping spot in Britain. In the next valley lies Addingham, a thriving, small community with several good pubs serving fine ale and excellent food, a scattering of small shops and a delightful golf course surrounded by breathtaking countryside. Nearby Bolton Abbey is one of the region's most scenic areas and the walk along the river to the Strid is a must. The Victorian Spa town of Ilkley is also worth a visit, with its wide streets, world-famous Box Tree Restaurant and Bettys Tea Rooms, while Ilkley Moor is the subject of Yorkshire's unofficial anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht at”. With steam railways offering regular excursions through stunning scenery, canal day trips, castles and pretty market towns all available nearby, Silsden is a wonderful base for touring the Bronte Country and North and West Yorkshire.
