  • "Lovely house, location, views."

Great to have the extra "study" area on 1st floor. Good shower. Things that would have made it recommendable: 1. In dining area no proper table and normal height chairs; there were 2 wooden bar chairs and a small high table. (house is for 4) 2 high plastic stools in kitchen had to be added in order to eat together. Not conducive to a relaxing meal! There would be room for 4 normal height chairs and a slightly larger normal height dining table table. 2. Put locks/bolts on shower room doors. 3. Put Towel rail/rings in shower room. 4. In main bedroom, a chest of drawers would have been useful, also a chair or stool for the "dressing table". 5. On the 2nd floor there were 2 very small drawer units, but no wardrobe (not much space or height). Maybe a small hanging rail? 6. Somewhere to dry wet towels, also wet clothes if raining. There was no washing machine/tumble drier/clothes air-er.

  • "No frills but all the essentials for a really enjoyable base to explore The Dales."

The weather was exceptionally warm and sunny so the outside terrace provided either a sun trap or somewhere to sit out in the evening. The stonebuilt cottage remained pleasantly cool. A short stroll into Skipton centre, and we had no problems parking in proximity to the cottage whenever we returned after a day out. The garden was secure for our dog so he could wander around as he liked.

  • "We have stayed in some delightful Sykes cottages in recent years."

Sadly this wasn’t one of then and failed to meet the standards we expected. If they had been trying to achieve a 1950s look then they achieved it! The cottage was done up just enough to make it available for let. The decoration and finishing was poor in most of the property and as a result it felt dowdy and grubby. It was surface clean but the old cupboards that had been used in the kitchen definitely need a refresh and clean up. If it was occupied by 4 people (not recommended) there was nowhere to eat together with 2 stools in the kitchen and 2 in the living room. I could go on ... The location was actually good although it was a steep hill down into town and back up. Not suitable for anyone with any health/ mobility issues which should be made clear in the description. I would say that skipton is a lovely place to stay - just not here.

  • "We felt so lucky when we pulled up at this house after a long drive and a stressful year."

There were fairy lights lit, a gift for my daughter under a small tree and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge. It was like walking into heaven. The house is well laid out for families with a large master bedroom and a huge loft room with twin beds. The kitchen has everything you could need, down to kitchen roll and baking paper. The only downside was the shower. We didn’t read the tip in the arrival book which says don’t change the setting. This resulted in a very hot or very cold shower. But we got there in the end. I would highly recommend for families and dog owners

  • "Needed A sharp vegetable knife, A pair of kitchen scissors, A new oven."

The hob worked but the oven took 3 hours to roast a small chicken.. and no HOT water. it was luke warm in the shower and kitchen. we had to boil the kettle to wash or rinse the dishes. also the expectations of not arriving until 3pm on day 1 in order for them to deep clean Acceptable. BUT having to leave at 10am on day 7 leaving the place as we found it?? leaving the cleaners nothing to do from 10an until 3. never had this ask before.. bit cheeky
