  • "Great cottage, great town, lovely walks on your doorstep and great local produce available."

Probably the best market in Yorkshire. Clients should be aware that the bedrooms are on a mezzanine floor and would be unsuitable for small children.

  • "What is the point of completing this questionnaire?"

I sent a detailed response following our stay at this same property 18-25 October 2019 listing 8 items/shortcomings that needed attention. None of these had been dealt with (including directions which meant finding the cottage was extremely difficult in the dark on arrival). If you read this note and wish to engage in dialogue please email or call me.

  • "We REALLY enjoyed staying at the cottage."

Idyllic location. Quick walk into town...great views behind castle...Quick walk to Pie shops and Skipton woods in your back garden...so long as you are mobile its all doable on foot and just beautiful. It's busy with walkers and dogs, but we liked to watch the world going by! ;-) The cottage would have been more comfortable with a couple of big area rugs. The wood burner is great to have, but only one basket of firewood is supplied. After that, you have to buy your own. There is a damp smell in the cottage. Our stay was just after storm Ciara and Harry. LOTS of rain...every day for the week. Some times torrential. We had a couple of small leaks In the skylight windows...but this could have been due to the amount of rain?? Sun would have been nice, but the rain didn't spoil our stay. All in all. We LOVED it! would definitely want to return here.

  • "Fabulous spot, straight into woods out of front door and a short walk along river to Skipton town centre."

Great location to explore the area, with Ingleton Falls, Malham Cove, Hebden Bridge and Hardcastle Crags river walk all worth a visit. Cottage was well equipped, clean and warm, although you do need to get used to the ramblers passing right outside the front door (didn't bother us in the slightest. Great place for dogs straight into woods.

  • "The location and cottage itself were great, but nobody prewarned us that the owner of the cottage (who lives directly opposite), was having extensive building work taking place all week."

This meant there were 4/5 vans parked outside the cottage we were staying in daily, meaning it wasn't the relaxing break we had hoped for, especially as our neighbours at home are currently having building work carried out which is why we had booked a relaxing week away to try and escape.

  • "A great base from which to explore the local area."

A well equipped cottage with comfortable furniture. Only fly in the ointment - bedrooms are on mezzanine floor with rooms in roof space and beam along the slanted door frame is a little low at one end ... ok once you are aware!!

  • "High Mill Cottage was ideally situated near to Skipton Castle woods."

It was also just a short walk away from the centre of Skipton which was very handy for all the local amenities. The town has numerous places to eat so we did very little cooking in the cottage. The cottage itself was clean & comfortable with all the usual home comforts & the owner (Nick) who lives in the old sawmill opposite was most welcoming. Although the weather was fairly wet we still found plenty to do & we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely part of Yorkshire.

Skipton is an excellent centre to tour the Yorkshire Dales. It has a marvellous array of food and drink offerings; difficult to imagine anyone failing to be satisfied.

It is very warm and comfortable and has everything that one would want in a self-catering cottage.

  • "Clean cottage in a good location for the centre of Skipton."

Could do with some sharp knives. Downstairs a bit sparse and with a wooden floor created quite a bare look. A few rugs would have made the place look much more cosy. Wouldn't like to use this cottage in the winter.

  • "A well equipped secluded cottage, but only a 10 minute walk into Skipton."

Generous downstairs space, with 2 small bedrooms at mezzanine level. A welcome pack including milk was a nice touch. Suggestions wise; 1. A full length mirror. 2. A seat/bench outside. 3. A warning about low beams on mezzanine. 4. New oven dials. Overall a good cottage if you accept the walkers accessing the woods by your cottage drive.

  • "The quality and feel of the accommodation and the level of the equipment and consumables far exceded our expectations."

The location was ideal for a relaxing holiday. The accommodation was a short pleasant walk, with options on routes, into the town centre area. There is easy access to a woodland walk, the castle and the water ways. Our thoughts on leaving at the end of the week were that we had had a very good relaxing holiday and that we would very probably book it again in the not to distant future. A note of advice would be for guests to ensure they know the location of the accommodation, as we arrived after dark and were not very confident at driving down the lane and selecting which route to take at the junction along the lane, possibly more pictures of the access along the lane may help, (not a major problem though). In conclusion we thought the accommodation, the location etc was excellent.

Very peaceful at night. Good road links to surrounding countryside and attractions and to neighbouring villages and towns. The cottage was of a very high standard. We liked the spacious living area downstairs, although the bedroom doorways may pose problems to some taller guests. Some nice provisions were left for us, which were very welcome. Although detailed instructions were provided, it may be difficult to find the cottage if arriving in the dark at night.

  • "Not sure that this property is suitable for small children."

The twin room has a bed set right against the railings overlooking downstairs. A little one could easily climb over and fall. Also there's nowhere for children to play outside other than the gravel road through to the woods. ALSO there were no instructions on local doctors, dentist, hospitals, how to use appliances etc. Luckily a young man came to tell us about the central heating which he found had been turned off. It was not the man who lives across in the main house. The place could also do with a bread bin and the temperature numbers for the oven have been rubbed off. I understand that the cottage has changed hands very recently. If true this would explain some of the things missing. Having said all that we had a great week. The cottage is very quiet (other than walkers which we got used to) as it's away from traffic. There was plenty of hot water and the cottage was warm during the cold evenings. From reading previous negative feedback if looks as though the cottage has had a good clean with alterations made and its been painted throughout. The kitchen was well equipped - apart from a bread bin - and there were plenty of leaflets for places of interest although there was no visitors book The woods are beautiful and a great place for a short walk and we found the 'short cut' walk beside the river into Skipton. Skipton is a lovely market town in which to stay and to use as a base. For three of the seven days we didn't use the car but walked to the station (about 20 minutes) to visit Saltaire, Settle-Carlisle train and Keighley Worth Valley Railway.

Perfect for a small family or couples, this retreat is a welcoming base to return to, complete with an open-plan layout, wrapped in wooden beams and a sense of charm.

The lounge area is a homely setup, housing a selection of comfortable sofas, and a woodburner, which creates a cosy feel throughout.

The kitchen has been designed to a standard of quality, and a dining table seats up to six people, with an abundance of windows that bring natural light inside the cottage.

With the addition of patio doors, this is a lovely spot to spend your leisure time.

Open tread stairs lead up to a double bedroom, neutrally decorated in a mezzanine style that overlooks the heart-warming interior.

The twin bedroom is equally as beautiful, knitted together with pretty bedding and soft furnishings that create an all-round soothing ambience.

A modern shower room also lies close by, whilst a cloakroom can be found on the ground floor.
