    Comfortable and clean. It served the purpose. The location was ideal being close to restaurants and high street and all places we were interested in were not more than 45minutes drive away. Can’t wait to go there again next year.

  • "This was a fabulous place to stay."

    Skipton is such a lovely place to stay and the house is in a quiet area of the town. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and much more. It had been fully prepared for our stay with plenty of linen, towels, milk and biscuits, as well as tea bags, plenty of kitchen equipment, books and DVD's. It is difficult to find fault with this accomodation. However I would suggest the addition of a full length mirror in the property, wifi, more comfortable mattresses and ventilation in the bathroom.

  • "Having set out to totally relax, my daughter and I had a most enjoyable early Spring break."

    Even the weather cheered up! The cottage was a warm and comfortable -like a home from home with all the small necessities eg salt, pepper, washing up liquid etc provided. We had lazy mornings, afternoon walks in the woods, by the canal and round the castle and markets. We were spoiled by choice about with places to eat - recommend The Woolly Sheep and The Indian by the canal basin, amongst others. The retro cinema was a delight - we went twice in five days! We will certainly return.

  • "The house was comfortable and quite warm despite a couple of heaters not working."

    The kitchen had everything one could need and clean although a little dated. The double bed was very comfy, the shower in the bathroom worked fine but could do with the sealant replacing as it was stained! The house was very convenient for town but on a very steep street, luckily it didn't get icy!

    The slope is easily 45 degrees and could pose a problem for people with mobility issues. Because the front door opens straight into the living room, it would be good to advise guests to have their skippers at the ready. The carpet is light in colour. The cottage was well equipped and very cozy. The short walk into Skipton was a real bonus. One of the neighbours kindly pointed the shortcut out to us. Rose Cottage is ideally placed for visiting some of the lovely villages such as Grassington, Burnsall, Kettlewell and Starbotton. The Dales Way with its beautiful riverside paths is a must. There is no shortage of good places to eat. We have already booked Rose Cottage again for next year.

  • "A nice clean, comfortable cottage in a quiet area in an excellent location."

    A short walk to the town centre for the shops, banks, pubs etc. Two main supermarkets, bus and train station also nearby. There is also a market in the town square four days a week. On arrival, there were packets of biscuits and a cake and a pint of milk in the fridge. (Much appreciated!) Also, plenty of books to read and dvds to watch. Everything catered for, for an enjoyable holiday.

    Still found lots to do that we hadn't done before as well as old favourites. The cottage was really handy for town centre. I'm sure we will use it again.

  • "The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable."

    Skipton itself was a pleasant surprise and an excellent base for a holiday. The cottage is in a characterful network of streets on a hillside which was amazingly quiet considering how close it is to the town centre. The street itself slopes quite steeply but is wide and very quiet and finding a decent parking space close by was never a problem.

  • "The cottage was clean and kitchen well equipped however it needs updating, both the kitchen and bathroom are seriously dated and whilst you don’t go to Skipton to sit in the house it needs to be up to modern standards."

    The TV is tiny and in the visitors book it has been complained about since 2016 - they’re not exactly expensive especially when compared to how much we paid for a 2 night stay. Also the modern traveller expects WiFi. The cottage is on a very steep hill which I think should be mentioned in the description as I imagine some less mobile visitors would find it a struggle. Skipton itself is a beautiful town and we will be returning but probably not to Rose Cottage.

  • "Super cottage and good location."

    But if you have walking problems it is on a very steep hill. And if you walk down to the town its steep hill all the way up. Train station about 15 mins walk by alley, bus station 10 mins walk. Can get trips out if you go to the big red bus company web site. I did get some internet but very limited. But very clean cottage all the utensals we needed. Thanks for milk to make our 1st cuppers most welcome.

    Well equipped with all you would need. Very clean on arrival. Be aware of steep hill as this took some getting used to for parking and unsure if neighbours like holiday makers. They seemed to spend long periods tapping the wall in the evenings!!

The property

A traditional, mid-terrace cottage situated just a short walk from the centre of the popular market town of Skipton.

This is a delightful holiday home, providing an ideal location for a small family or couple to get away from it all and enjoy the many delights of this medieval old town, known as the Gateway to the Dales.

The cottage features a spacious sitting room with a warm and cosy gas living-flame fire set in a feature fireplace, two comfortable settees and an excellent selection of books.

The adjoining kitchen is well equipped, with a dining area and useful pantry.

The rear yard is enclosed, and guests will discover a good little evening sun trap to enjoy after a day out in the nearby Dales.

There is also a lockable garden shed ideal for bike and equipment storage.

Upstairs, the two comfortable bedrooms are well served by a spacious bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle.

Just a two minute walk down the ginnel brings guests out onto the high street, once voted one of the best high streets in England.

A great base to indulge in the many delights of the famous town of Skipton, voted by the Sunday Times as “The Best Place to Live in Great Britain”.

A short stroll takes you to the medieval castle, one of the oldest in the country, as well as the lively canal basin.

Not to be missed is the fabulous four-day market, which is set out down the entire length of the main high street, along with the many excellent pubs and restaurants of this much-loved town.

It is just a short drive to the wonderful moorland walks at Bolton Abbey, limestone formations at Malham Tarn, and onto Grassington with its local farmer markets, 1940's weekends, beautiful stone buildings, quirky shops and friendly pubs.

This is an ideal base for exploring this part of the Yorkshire Dales.

About the location

SKIPTON

Grassington 9 miles; Harrogate 20 miles.

Known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, Skipton is well placed for visiting all that the Dales has to offer, whilst York, the Lake District and the West Coast are also within easy motoring distance. This lovely market town has much to interest the enthusiastic visitor, boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2014, The Sunday Times named Skipton as Britain's "best place to live" and two years later placed it among the nine best towns in Yorkshire and the North-East. Steam railways with regular excursions are available at Embsay and Bolton Abbey, and the Leeds to Liverpool Canal passes through Skipton with the 1 mile long Foulridge Tunnel and the 5-rise locks at Bingley within a short travel. Golf, swimming, squash, tennis and snooker are all available locally and the excellent public transport means the car can be left at home!
