“Wonderful location, beautiful countryside and friendly owner”

My wife and I stayed here in August with our dog and we loved it! Very comfy bed, lovely bath/shower facilities and amazing under-floor heating to keep the place toasty all year round. Nice private courtyard are to enjoy in the sunshine, and with Snape Village nearby you're only a short walk from a great pub (the Castle Arms) with gorgeous food. All the kitchen facilities you need to cook home meals, with a good selection of crockery and cutlery to suit your needs. Only minor quibble is that the TV in the lounge is a bit small...though with the area you're in, do you really plan on watching much telly? Despite being a castle you'll also be surprised at how hard it is to find for takeaway delivery drivers...could possibly use a lit sign at night on the roadway, so that they can see 'The Undercroft' clearly from the streetside. But honestly...if you can't find a castle, are you even really looking?! All in, a brilliant venue and one we'd happily go back to in future.

The property

Retaining plenty of character and warmth, The Undercroft is the perfect base for families or couples looking to discover all that North Yorkshire can offer.

The ground floor occupies a cosy open-plan living area graced with a number of welcoming touches, from the exposed beams and stonework to the fabulous woodburning stove and range cooker, giving it a real traditional feel.

Downstairs you will also find the simply wonderful master bedroom, boasting a king-size bed with an en-suite that is bursting with class.

Head upstairs and be presented with a comforting twin bedroom nestling cosily under the eaves, completing the accommodation in a tremendous fashion.

Formal gardens surround the castle, providing a tranquil spot to stroll around to get away from it all, alternatively take a seat on the courtyard garden with a refreshing drink or perhaps treat yourself to an alfresco meal.

Snape is a peaceful village tucked in the North Yorkshire countryside, offering a highly-regarded gastropub.

Just three miles North sits the market town of Bedale, housing a range of amenities to make the most of.
