It has everything you need and much more. If you like history, this is the place to be. And on top of that, your host Sharon is absolutely charming. Thanks for having us Sharon!

It is wonderful how modern comfort has been built in without spoiling the character. Thank you to Sharon for the warm welcome and the wine and biscuits - it is such a nice thing to do.

  • "Fantastic stay."

The cottage was spotless. It is larger than it appears from the photos on the website. Underfloor heating and shower were fabulous. Complementary wine, milk, tea, biscuits were a nice touch. Lovely gastropub within a few minutes walk. A great property, and a really unique experience to stay somewhere so historic.

  • "We have never stayed in a nicer holiday home."

Warm welcome, well laid out accommodation and equipped with everything one could possibly need. Immediately felt at home. Peaceful, relaxing stay on edge of pretty village with excellent local shop and decent pub with good meals both about 5 mins walk away. Interesting area. We are now planning when we can return to this exceptional property. Vivien Oxford

  • "The undercroft has a good sense of history, as part of a castle once occupied by Catherine Parr."

It is spacious and both bathrooms have good strong showers, with a view of a large ruined tower from the en suite. There is a constant supply of hot water and the master bedroom is very comfortable. With stone-flagged floors and rugs, you are always aware that you are in a castle, while also having good wi fi and two TVs downstairs. You need to go into the courtyard for a mobile signal (but then again the walls are four feet thick!) and the stairs to the upper bedroom are very steep and not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The open plan kitchen makes eating in easy, but there is also an excellent pub within walking distance in Snape village and plenty of take-aways a short drive away in Bedale. There are lots of great places to visit nearby. We can recommend the Georgian Theatre tour at Richmond and the lovely small town of Hawes.

  • "We had a really good time - the location is amazing, so much wildlife around."

And it is obviously very special to stay in Snape Castle. The accommodation is very secluded and cozy and has all you need. Took us about 24 hours to get the balance right on the heating but after that it was really comfortable - we'd like to go back. The owner (and her cat) are friendly and we felt well looked after.

  • "Lovely stay in a really interesting cottage."

Swaledale and Wensleydale are within easy reach, with the North York Moors if you fancy going slightly further afield (though we did not go east of the A1). Masham and Bedale both very interesting and within easy reach. The Undercroft really is underneath the castle’s original chapel. It’s very private, with a gravelled forecourt and coffee table, ample parking, and small garden area. Comfortable bed, and good showers. The second (twin) bedroom is upstairs, and it would be a stretch for four adults, but perfect for two or 2+2. Thank you, Sharon, for two weeks’ respite from the dreaded Covid-19.

  • "Very pleasant and warm welcome - very clean and comfortable - a welcome bottle of wine, milk and bowl of fruit, very kind thought - no phone signal - need to speak to Sharon if no online connection - TV very poor, control has no tv guide and very few stations."

    - very pleasant area - Bedale a very nice village with plenty of cafes - The Old Swan a great pub for meals at very reasonable prices compared to a good many.- Sharon a very kind person willing to help any time.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Snape Castle."

The character of the property and surroundings was breathtaking. The host and locals was very accommodating and friendly with a Fantastic amenities both in the castle and the village. The only criticism was the lack of outdoor lighting which proved to be difficult when letting the dog out on an evening and the Internet/TV could do with being updated for the cost of the rental. Aside from that we had a fabulous time in beautiful picturesque surroundings would stay again and recommend to anyone

  • "This is absolutely the best cottage I've stayed in."

We enjoyed every moment of our trip. The area is outstanding easy to visit Ripon, Richmond, and Masham. The rooms were spacious, the furniture was going quality and extremely comfortable. Sharon was very welcoming as was the cat. N Yorkshire was at its best in late summer, green and sunny. If you're on a diet don't visit, because the food in every town was so special and the portions so large you will have to deprive yourself. Special places Appleyards Pork Butchers in Ripon, Kings Head in Richmond, Bay Horse in Masham, and afternoon tea at Swindon Park. Enjoy Fountains Abbey, Middleham castle. We are definitely going to return

  • "We all had a lovely time at The Undercroft at Snape Castle,Lady Sharon Parnaby was there to make us feel very welcome and she is a lovely lady to talkto about the surrounding area ."

Snape Castle is well situated for exploring the dales and the Undercroft is spacious and generally a lovely place to stay, we would go back at some point and stay there again as it is in a lovely location with some good restaurants near by and good shops at Bedale which is just up the road.

  • "Lovely accommodations on the ground floor of the castle, in a peaceful and charming tiny village."

The owner, Sharon, was helpful and friendly, available but not intrusive at all, and she made check in easy. You need a car to get around, but the town of Bedale is close and has most of what you need day to day, also some fun spots to nose about. We found our stay restful, with a comfortable bed and adequate (underfloor) heating. Kitchen provided every sort of pan, dishes, and utensils needed, and a large fridge. Our only negative is that the living room is dark, but that is because the castle walls are 3 feet thick and using the original openings for windows to stay true to its historical significance. Overall a wonderful experience and would love to return!
