Not easy to find, but once in Thoralby the locals will help if you ask for directions.

  • "Enjoyed our stay."

Things that would improve it - dog friendly garden - most dogs wander a little and with the property having an open driveway and low side wall next to a sheep field we couldn't have the doors open at any time - not too bad given the time of year but this would prevent us from booking again, esp summertime. Also, a few of the pans are a bit worn eg frying pans. Other than that, v comfortable with good facilities. Pub was closed, but given the climate probably understandable

  • "The cottage was gorgeous, spacious and nicely furnished."

The dining room floods with morning sun and views when it was a bit chilly to sit outside. The beds super comfy. The village is a picture perfect Dales village and the scenery in every direction mind blowing. As keen gardeners we really appreciated the well tended garden too with all the roses and peonies. We were a party of 4 adults and the space was brilliant but i could equally see it working for a larger family too. There was just a few super easy solves that would make this cottage 100% perfect. Although generally clean it could do with deeper clean, the kitchen cupboard fronts, floors and kick boards were pretty grubby as was the skirting and tile edging in the kitchen was pretty greasy. There is no cafetiere! £10 from Dunelm. The TV!! ok so we don't go on holiday to watch TV but at the end of a long day exploring, a chill and a bit of TV is sometimes needed, more so I imagine with children..., but really no smart TV to log into? I don't think in the last 5 years i have ever stayed in a cottage without it. We also had to have a kitchen reshuffle to store food - maybe just leaving one cupboard or shelf free would be an excellent idea. However, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again, had a wonderful holiday and thoroughly recommend.

  • "We loved everything about the property, its in a great location, beds are very comfortable, and the cottage is super clean."

The only issue we had was the late check in time and very early check out time. We think this stay would be much better if it had a 1-2 hour earlier check in and check out times. It would also be lovely if 1 bag of logs could be provided for the log burner

  • "A lovely well equipped house in a great location for visiting the Yorkshire Dales."

The house was really warm and there was plenty of space to chill out on our family Easter break. Nice outdoor seating area with beautiful views.

  • "Lovely property with plenty of room for 5 adults in a beautiful setting."

The only slight inconvenience was the arrival time of no earlier than 4pm and early time of 9am to vacate the property. Having read reviews it suggested a welcome pack was left containing basics such as milk. This would have been much appreciated as arriving on a Sunday most local convenience stores were closed and a cup of tea would have been very welcome after a long journey. However this would not stop me recommending the property as location was excellent. Also facilities, bedding and towels were very good. There was also plenty of reading material covering the surrounding area. We would definitely return.

We had everything we needed and were warm and comfortable. Local pub is unfortunately closed at present but we found some other nice places for dinner a short drive away.

  • "We have had a wonderful holiday at Prospect house."

The cottage is extremely well provided for with good quality equipment and plenty of it . Comfortable beds and stunning views! We had 3 generations and there was plenty room for the younger ones to play games and the garden and patio were very well used. The bottle of wine, milk and cake were also a really lovely surprise. Thankyou very much!

  • "Prospect house is a lovely cottage in a stunningly beautiful dale."

Lots of walks nearby. We walked to Aysgarth falls and West Burton from the cottage we would recommended both. The cottage itself was comfortable and there was plenty of utensils and equipment. The only thing we would say is that the owners requests dogs do not go upstairs but do not provide a gate to stop this. Thankfully we took our own pen which we used. There are some very good dog gates that fit all stair widths on the market. The village has a small shop which was sadly closed for the week we were there but another handy shop in Aysgarth 5 mins by car. Leyburn is perfect for food shopping butchers bakers etc. The pub only opened at the weekend and didn't accept dogs but the pub at Newbiggin is open daily and does. All in all a lovely holiday with great weather, thank you So many lovely places to visit we didn't have chance to see them all.

The doll’s things in the utility/playroom were much appreciated by our little granddaughter and the sitting room was enjoyed by all. The bedrooms were comfortable and the garden and outside dining space very welcome. The location is one of the best things as it is a quiet village and there are lovely views and walks from the door in all directions

  • "The sofas are not very comfortable so suggest something better and I am allergic to dogs and was sneezing when I sat on them."

I don’t think you should allow pets in these properties as with this one as it was beautiful. There wasn’t adequate channels on the TV which needs a change and it is not secure enough outside for toddlers and could do with a stair gate as available if required.

  • "Unfortunately, we were not correctly informed about the provision of a cot and highchair; I contacted Sykes Cottages to check if they were available and was told they were not."

On arrival we found a high chair and there was actually two travel cots under one of the beds. If I had known this it would have saved me a lot of space in my car ! Also, the property did not appear to offer a vacuum cleaner, clothes horse, or ironing board. With 3 children in our party these were essentials. I rang the number of the cleaning company which was in the guest folder, who gave me the code to a locked cupboard containing all of these items...why did the owners not leave these readily available? The property had a number of wooden stairs. I knew there was two floors, but it is not made clear in the details the number of bare stairs as the house ( being a period property) has several levels. This made it quite tricky with small children. There were actually several child gates in the basement /games room which could have been fitted or made available to guests. The availability of a dvd player would be a good addition, especially when the weather isn't too good. There are TV's in all bedrooms, but very limited channels as sometimes happens with Freesat. The water pressure was extremely high with the result that the shower fittings were quite explosive and the water shot out everywhere if turned on too high. This needs addressing. The location of the cottage was beautiful, tranquil and ideally placed for the places we wanted to visit. The beds were extremely comfortable and the views gorgeous. We all enjoyed our holiday.
