A delightful wing of the owner’s home, Tanfield House, set on the banks of the River Ure in the picturesque village of West Tanfield in the Yorkshire Dales.
The setting, amongst beautiful gardens leading down to the edge of the river, is truly inspiring, with mature woodlands, formal gardens and sheep grazing in the meadows, just perfect for a romantic break.
This charming apartment has been carefully created from the first floor wing of the main house, individually styled to retain much of the original features to create a luxurious feel throughout.
It features an open plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen, breakfast bar, dining area and cosy sitting area, enjoying lovely views out across the grazing land to the distant woodlands.
The two bedrooms are stylish and enjoy fantastic views out across the gardens and down to the river.
A lovely bathroom with a deep bath and power shower complete the accommodation.
The jewel in the crown of this pretty apartment is the first floor terrace, which provides a wonderful area to sit out, soak up the sunshine and gaze out across the tranquil and relaxing gardens.
A further seating area in a small, private garden overlooking the river is also available, and is just the right place to sit and unwind on a summer’s evening.
Centrally located in this beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales, there are lovely walks from the doorstep, tennis available in the village, local trout fishing and, of course, many bike riding opportunities in the surrounding area.
Two excellent pubs are just a short stroll away; The Bruce Arms is a traditional country inn where you can enjoy sitting in front of a log fire, whilst tucking into a sumptuous home-cooked meal and hand-pulled local ale.
The Bull is a very old country inn, set on the banks of the river, and was once the ferryman’s cottage, and where the artist JMW Turner drew scenes of the nearby ancient Marmion Tower on one of his many tours of Yorkshire.
The amenities of Masham, including the Black Sheep Visitors’ Centre and Bistro, and the twice-weekly markets are not to be missed, whilst the market towns such as Richmond, Leyburn and Hawes are also within easy reach.

This small picturesque village is situated on the banks of the River Ure, at the eastern end of Wensleydale in the midst of some of Yorkshire's most beautiful scenery. It comprises a scattering of dwellings and farmsteads, and also offers two excellent old pubs and a store/Post Office. West Tanfield is ideally situated for exploring all of Yorkshire's splendid countryside, with the Yorkshire Dales to the west and the North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast to the east. Nearby Ripon, dominated by its imposing cathedral, has a great deal to offer visitors - the cathedral with its 1300 year old crypt, the Yorkshire Law & Order Museums, various craft markets, an International Music Festival and Ripon Races; not to mention the many beautiful riverside and canal walks. Nearby Masham boasts a huge market square, where a Wednesday market has recently been joined by a popular Saturday market. There are lots of walks around the area, including a recently reopened 10-mile walk along the Ure, arguably one of the best walks in the UK. The famous Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden are within easy driving distance and it is just a few miles to the popular Lightwater Valley Theme Park with its Factory Shopping Village. Skipton, Harrogate and the historic cathedral city of York are close by, as are the great stately homes of Castle Howard and Harewood House, the Cistercian Abbeys of Fountains, Rievaulx and Jervaulx, and the castles of Middleham, Bolton and Richmond. A wonderful picturesque Dales village.
