It was extremely clean. Very well equipped in the kitchen. A large comfortable bed for a great nights sleep. And a lovely bathroom with both a walk in shower, and luxury bath. A great location in the countryside for good walks, but not too far from places of interest. Great to have village store nearby, and 2 pubs too. Nothing what's so ever to complain about! Thank you.

The cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. We slept really well in the comfy bed! The weather was superb most of the week and we did use the pool too, which was lovely. The local shop just next door but one was really convenient and there are some great places to eat in the village, particularly the Woodhouse Arms. The cottage is ideally located for great days out to places like Belvoir Castle, Belton House and Isaac Newtons House (Woolsthorpe Manor).

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wheelwrights Cottage in May."

The cottage is a beautiful relaxing and comfortable base to return to following a day out. It is a real home away from home and so quiet that a good night’s sleep is almost guaranteed! Wheelwrights Cottage is excellently situated for visiting a variety of National Trust properties - Belton House and Woolsthorpe Manor are only a few miles drive away. Gunby House, Tattershall Castle and Lyveden are further afield but well worth a visit. It’s also excellently situated for Rutland Water. There is so much to see in Lincolnshire - a week wasn’t long enough, so we’ll have to look forward to a return visit! Thank you Rob and Alex for being such welcoming hosts.

  • "We have just returned from a week in this lovely cottage May 12th-19th."

It was light and bright and immaculate and tastefully decorated. A lovely sun room which I had earmarked as my “Book Nook”, but didn’t get much reading done as there was so much to see and do in the area. A week wasn’t long enough! It had everything that you could possibly need for a home from home.It was set in lovely gardens which led on to the owners meadow. The swimming pool and summerhouse looked lovely but it was still a bit too cold for it to be used. Rob and Alex, the owners, were very welcoming and friendly and had milk in the fridge and biscuits in the cupboard waiting for us which was appreciated after a long drive. There are two pubs in the village and we used them both. Excellent meal at the Woodhouse Arms in their restaurant, and a decent pub meal in The Fighting Cocks The village has a shop literally a minute from the property which was very handy, and a pleasant tearoom. It is a nice little village with friendly locals, what more could you ask…except for a longer stay. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely look to stay here again if we ventured up to this area in the future. Thank you Rob and Alex and Millie the lab and two cats.

Thank you very much for such positive feed back, we are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

  • "A very spacious, well equipped and comfortable bungalow, and a warm welcome from the owners and their dog, who live next door."

Parking is off-road, though not beside the bungalow. Wi-Fi works well. There are pubs and a supermarket within easy walking distance. It's very quite at night. Despite warm May weather, we were not able to use the pool, as the water was still green.

Thank you for your feedback. Parking is approximately 15 metres from the door of the cottage - we will ensure that this is made clear in the property description. Also we need to change the property description to state that the pool is available from mid May to the end of August. Due to an exceptionally wet April, the Pool water took longer to be Algae free for which we apologise. It is now ready for use by arrangement with us. Property Owner

  • "We booked this single storey accommodation with, what looked like easy parking near to the front door, as we both have disabilities and we thought it would meet our needs."

The property has been beautifully renovated, furnished and maintained but it is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. We fully appreciate that we should have checked the access prior to booking and we were remiss in not so doing. The main problems we had were as follows: Parking. From the photo on the website it looked as if the parking was on the gravelled area at the side of the property. The photo is misleading as parking was in an area at the front, alongside the owners 2 vehicles. There is a gate to walk through to access the gravelled driveway leading up to the property. The parking space was not ideal and one had to drive down a narrow road with cars parked on the opposite side of the road making entry to and from the parking spot quite difficult at times. Sykes should show photos of the actual parking area as this would give a better picture of the space available. The owners were very helpful and moved their cars around to give us more space for our vehicle. The bed. I couldn’t get into the bed as it was too high and I had to sleep on the sofa in the lounge. Not ideal!. The metal bedstead was high but the 9 inch mattress was beyond me. It looked great but it was totally impractical and I’m sure other people must have struggled to get into the bed in the past but probably didn’t want to say anything. The front door. I found getting in and out of the front door difficult and a step outside would make the access easier. The shower. There are no rails in the shower or anywhere to put shower toiletries. The base of the shower was very slippery but a non slip mat was provided which greatly helped. We want to say that the owners were very understanding and did what they could to help but we are not very confident about booking with Sykes again as their properties do not seem to cater for the needs of people with disabilities. We would urge Sykes and property owners to update their properties in order to make them fully accessible for people with disabilities. At present we are seriously disadvantaged and the problems we had meant that we didn’t enjoy our stay in Wheelwright’s Cottage as much as we had hoped.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that due to your severe mobility issues you were unable to use the double bed and that you found access in an out of the cottage and the parking area difficult. This is the first time since we opened that we have had comments relating to either of these features. We will make it clear in the Cottage description that the parking space is 15 metres from the front door. Clearly we are very disappointed with the rating you have awarded us. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, such a nice village with two great pubs and a lovely tea room."

It was a good base to travel to Leicester, Nottingham, Oakham, Melton Mowbray and Rutland water. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was that the info said the heaters came on automatically at 18°C but in fact they were all switched off so it was a couple of cold nights before we found that out as the switches were down behind furniture. Would definitely return to this cottage, especially in warmer months.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry about the mix up with the heaters and hope that it didn’t detract from your experience too much. Property Owner

The cottage is very well equipped, modern & has the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! The star attraction is the owners dog Milly you were always guaranteed a welcome as soon as you opened the gate. There is also a private garden area for the sole use of the cottage if you want it. The sunroom is lovely to sit in. Pool was not yet open but looked very nice. I had one issue in the property which was sorted immediately. There is a handy grocery shop very close by, and two coffee shops in the village (however the village pub has closed down). If I were to offer a negative, it would be to advise that the accommodation is in the owner's garden, so if you are looking for complete privacy it's probably not the place for you as the owner is out in the garden a lot. Not an issue for me however - I would definitely recommend a stay here, and I would be very happy to return. Beautiful surrounding countryside, with Belton House, Rutland Water, & Stamford all worth a visit.

Thank you for your kind feedback. Just one correction the village has a restaurant pub which is open. The second pub is closed temporarily but is due to open imminently.. Property Owner

Well kept garden to look out over when in living area and sun room. Super bathroom! Nespresso machine and generous number of pods. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked some delicious local foods. The village itself is quiet and very pretty with a couple of lovely shops and a new Nisa store. • "A wonderful cottage of a very high standard with every comfort, making it the perfect stay."

For us it exceeded our expectations by being a larger size cottage with an added sun room, having a separate utility room (useful for storing our cycling equipment) and with the bonus of a second toilet in the utility room. The location is perfect with the owner's house fronting the High street and the cottage set back in the grounds away from the road, giving a feeling of being in the countryside but with the convenience of a local shop, 2 public houses and 2 coffee shops within easy walking distance. It is a pretty village and there are plenty of walks and good routes for cycling nearby. There was a handy store for housing our bikes and we were encouraged to wander freely about the extensive well kept garden. Although the cottage has it's own section of garden, we never actually used it as the grounds were so beautiful and peaceful. The hosts were friendly, making us feel at home and giving us good local tips. This is somewhere that we would happily stay again as there was so much to see and do without having to travel too far.
