  • "Fabulous cosy cottage, well maintained and well equipped in lovely location."

Our only grumble is that it was lacking in kitchen storage space for our provisions, with minimal worktop space for food prep. Kitchen would benefit from better layout. Otherwise would def recommend.x

  • "We stayed at Fordie at the end of a 2-week family road trip, previously going to Loch Lomond, Glencoe and Skye."

We're a family of 4 with two young kids (1 & 3 years old). Fordie was the highlight of our stay! The accommodation was terrific value, and we were pleasantly surprised on arrival that it was even better than the photos. The owners/managers have put a lot of thought into fitting the cottage out and it's been done and maintained to a high standard. Fordie is a lovely bustling estate in a perfect location. Rural enough to feel like part of the countryside, with lovely walks on the doorstep (for all abilities), but not far from the major roads/motorways, a supermarket within 10 mins one way (Crieff) and a lovely coffee shop the other (Comrie). I had a nice chat with Sheenagh, who looks after the property. We enjoyed walks up Deil's Cauldron and Loch Turret with the kids, and went to the Auchingarrich wildlife park too. Would recommend them all. Loch Turret is a good start for more challenging walks, or there's the track alongside the Loch for an easier route. I left trying to work out ways we could move to the area!

Hello there Chris & Family, Wow! Thank you so much for your very kind and positive review, and we really appreciate the depth and detail you have given which is amazingly helpful for future guests! To be placed up there with iconic Scottish destinations and one of the loveliest Islands we have is music to our ears and we are delighted that you really enjoyed your Fordie stay. Loch Turret is quite a special place, and the West side of the Loch is just one of the many beautiful places on Fordie Estate and it was lovely that you experienced and recognised that, thank you. We would love to welcome you all back again in the future and hopefully that will happen soon! Many thanks once again from all of the Fordie Team. Property Owner

  • "What a lovely cottage and a beautiful location!"

The cottage was warm, comfortable and quiet and, to our delight, red squirrels live nearby. It was a real joy to watch them scampering up the drive most mornings! Our only small 'niggle' was the lack of water pressure for the shower which meant it wasn't as powerful as we'd have liked but it was sufficient to do the job and wouldn't deter us from staying here again. The location was excellent, close enough to a main road to get out and about quickly but it still felt 'off the beaten track' and a cosy retreat to return to after a days hiking / sightseeing. Some lovely walking is to be found in the woods behind the cottage - mostly well made forest tracks - and Comrie is accessible this way, avoiding the main road. Crieff is good to visit and for 'supermarket' shopping (Aldi / co-op) and also has a superb deli + cafe! Comrie is pretty but limited and not everything was open on the days we visited (out of main holiday season). The circular walk round Glen Lednock was lovely though (more squirrels!). All in all, a great base for a wonderful relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of the country. We hope to return soon.

Hello there David, Thank you so much for your very positive and informative review, which is so helpful for future guests who come to enjoy Fordie's lovely East Cottage. Our healthy red squirrel population is an absolute delight and we are so lucky to be able to call them our neighbours! We agree that our location is ideal for rest & relaxation but also our main cities and the West are easily accessible. We are glad that East Cottage's little quirks will not stop you from returning and we would love to welcome you back again in the future. Take care till then. • "A lovely cottage in a beautiful area, we enjoyed our stay."

Seeing a red squirrel from the kitchen window was a highlight as we’d never seen one before. We had an issue with one of the showers not working but this was fixed very promptly (and over the Bank Holiday weekend at that). Would recommend.

Hello there Gillian, Thank you so much for the lovely feedback after your recent East Cottage stay. We are delighted that you saw your first ever red squirrel while here, and I happy to say that thankfully the population is on the rise in this part of Scotland. We are grateful for your recommendation, and really hope that you will come back and spend time with us here again in the future. Take care till then. • "Cosy traditional cottage, beds are comfortable, lots of towels great for family with kids, has two electric heaters in the rooms, i left on for 20 mins before bed it heated the rooms nicely."

inside is clean and surrounding is beautiful has got walks to comrie croft passing the estates, 5 mins drives to wildlife park which both kids n adults enjoyed the day out, about 10 mins drive to town which you can find shops cafes ects. the down side is there is no bench you can sit outside in the garden, a barbecue area would be nice thing to add too, some plastic culinary would be nice for the young kids, the hot water is a main issue i would say that after i ran the bath for the kids there is no hot water left for the rest of us, internet connection could have some improvement.

Hello there Xinzhu, Thank you so much for the positive feedback that you have left following your recent stay at East Cottage. It is indeed a beautiful area with lots of great activities close by! As regards the outdoor seating, and unfortunately you missed this by just a week, we now have picnic benches made from locally sourced timber from wind blow in our native woodlands, and we fully take on board the need for a nice barbeque area , and this is something that we will definitely look into providing in the future. Plastic cutlery , cups etc is a good idea too. The internet issues are ongoing, with our area earmarked for fibre optic broadband in the latter part of 2023, and the hot water situation , which we discovered was a faulty thermostat has now been resolved. Thank you once again, and we very much hope that you will come back and see us at Fordie Estate again soon! Kindest Regards Sheenagh McIntyre Property Manager Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay here."

The walks from the cottage and surrounding area are Idyllic. The cottage is comfortable, cosy and clean. Some little niggles were the kitchen/dinning area was a bit small and the fridge had no freezer compartment. Also no dog's allowed after this visit which is a shame as we would have stayed here again.

Hello there, Thank you so much for leaving East Cottage so neat and tidy on your departure last week, and we hope you had an enjoyable stay. Thank you also for your very positive feedback which helps us greatly. The kitchen area in East is slightly smaller, however we are looking to furnish the sitting room with a small table and chairs going forward. We are also looking to upgrade the fridge. We are trialling our no dog's allowed policy at this time, and it is not set in stone so may well be reversed in the future, please watch this space! We would love you to come and visit again in the future and many thanks once again for your continued support. Kindest Regards The Fordie Estate Team Property Owner

  • "Gorgeous setting."

Saw my first Red Squirrel since childhood. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. Went the extra mile for us. Cottage rustic, yet deceptive as it has been beautifully decorated, furnished, and supplied three modern bathrooms which is really helpful. The kitchen a bit of tight squeeze but nothing we couldn't cope with gladly.

About the location

COMRIE

Crieff 7 miles; Gleneagles 16 miles; Perth 24 miles.

The affluent highland Perthshire village of Comrie is named from the Gaelic word conruith meaning 'a place where rivers meet' and is appropriate as the village sits at the confluence of three rivers which eventually feed into the Tay. There are numerous standing stones and archaeological remains in the area, suggesting this area was inhabited in prehistoric times. Comrie’s early prosperity came from weaving and its position on the droving route from the Highlands to lowland Scotland and England. Today’s village benefits from wildlife and adventure tourism as its location makes it ideal for exploring the mountains and lochs that surround it, plus tourist attractions include Earthquake House and Auchingarrich Wildlife Park. A few miles outside of Comrie towards Dunira is the Dalchonzie Fruit Farm which sells fruit, vegetables, jams and pickles, meat, free range eggs, and ice-cream. Comrie Golf Course tea room is open to all at the edge of the village towards Crieff. The attractive town of Crieff is only six miles to the east and its many shops, bars and cafes make it well worth a visit, and for the golf enthusiast, Gleneagles is only a short drive away. Other places well worth a visit include the Glenturret Distillery and Drummond Castle Gardens, plus the village of Killin and town of Aberfeldy are also within driving distance.
