miles from Richmond in the North Yorkshire Dales. It's a
fantastic spot to totally unwind and tour this pretty region,
whether you prefer to take a leisurely drive, ramble on foot or hop
on a bike.
Surrounded by gorgeous rolling countryside, the village caters
for essential needs with two pubs (both serving food), a village
stores, Post Office and a lovely church. Lots more shops,
restaurants and other facilities can be found in Richmond's
quaint, cobbled streets, just a short drive away.

Footpaths and bridleways weave across the local landscape,
making a Gilling West cottage an ideal choice for exploring
Swaledale and Teesdale. And there are walks to suit all levels of
ability, whether you fancy challenging, day-long treks or shorter,
gentle strolls. If your visit falls in June or early July, expect
amazing wildflower meadows ablaze with colour and scenting the air
with fragrant perfumes.
No doubt you'll visit Richmond at least once during your
stay and there are a few things worth a mention - Richmond Castle
perched above the River Swale and the enjoyable Castle Walk; a
Georgian theatre; three superb museums; plus a weekly market and
monthly farmers' market. Also close by are the fascinating
ruins of Easby Abbey, the historic village of Barnard Castle and
the splendid Bowes Museum - an absolute must on anyone's
itinerary!
