The county is a haven for outdoor lovers, with wildlife, fantastic views and historical sights on walks in Devon. Wander around the 16-mile Dart Valley Trail, throughout Totnes and Dartmouth, following the Kingswear Peninsula to charming fishing villages like Dittisham. Make sure you don’t miss exceptional scenery along the South West Coast Path, which spans around 630 miles over to South Dorset, including the beautiful Bolberry Down walk.

There are many coastal walks in Devon, one of the most popular being the hike from Sidmouth to the village of Beer along the Jurassic Coast. This area of geological interest is both a UNESCO World Heritage site and an AONB.

No need to leave your pets at home, there are plenty of places to go on dog walks in Devon. Follow the coastline and climb the steep cliffs near Beesands, ending on the dog-friendly beach.   • Beesands to Hallsands

    This moderate 3.5-mile walk follows the coast path from the village of Beesands to Hallsands, then circling back through the stunning countryside. This dog-friendly route passes points of interest such as Start Point Lighthouse and the ruins of South Hallands.

    Sidmouth to Beer

  • The Dart Valley Trail

    This 16-mile-long trail is one of the most beautiful in South Devon. Traversing through woodlands filled with wildlife, this route offers fantastic views over the River Dart, as well as of the stunning town of Dartmouth. If a full day’s trek isn’t what you were looking for, this walk can be shortened to 4.5 miles, taking in the Greenway Estate and ending in the town of Kingswear.

    At 630 miles, the South West Coast Path is England’s longest way-marked walking trail, stretching from Somerset’s Minehead to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The trail passes through five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 17 Heritage Coasts, a National Park, two World Heritage Sites, as well as a UNESCO Geopark and a UNESCO Bisosphere.

  • Two Moors Way

    This trail stretches just over 100 miles from Ivybridge in the South to Lynton on the North Coast, linking the National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor. The majority of the route is fairly easy, apart from only two slightly more difficult sections.
