Perfect for… cosy tearooms, pretty cobbled streets and horseriding through the town
Covered in charming cobbled streets, the town of Middleham was once home to the kings of England and is steeped in historical value. The 12th century Middleham Castle, childhood home of Richard III, dominates the town and is one of the largest castles in the country.
Horse-riding is arguably the biggest pastime in the area; don’t be surprised if you see them being ridden along the streets and in the centre of town. Middleham has been one of the most popular places to train racehorses in the whole country over the last few hundred years.
The town itself is covered in cosy tearooms and independent shops with several country pubs, making it an ideal location for comfortably unwinding after a day of hiking around the many local walking routes in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park.
