Is a day out that’s packed with history is something you love? Come to the Berwick Barracks, an English Heritage site offering plenty to do.

Open during peak season, the site usually welcomes the public between 10am – 5pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and weekends. Tickets cost between £3.60 and £7.50; family ticket bundles are also on offer here.

The government built the Berwick Barracks between 1717 and 1721, following the fighting over the Jacobite rising in the area in 1715.

Nowadays, visitors can visit the Berwick Barracks’ three museums, including the Berwick Museum & Art Gallery. Temporary and permanent exhibitions are dotted around the site’s museums, such as By Beat of Drum, where you can learn about the British infantrymen’s life.

Stunning gardens also await at Berwick Barracks’ Ramparts. Lovely strolls with your canine companion are a must here!

After exploring the site, make your way to the picnic area and enjoy an alfresco lunch. Alternatively, stop at the on-site shop and grab something to go.
