Derwentwater

Derwentwater is one of the Lake District’s most famous and popular lakes. Nestled just 15 minutes away from the town square in Keswick, it’s easy to reach and combine with a day out in the town.

The lake was made famous by the romantic poets of the 18th and 19th centuries, including William Wordsworth. Looking at the lake today, it’s easy to see why.

There are plenty of boating options at Derwentwater allowing you to take in the lake and the shoreline from a unique perspective. Many services have a hop-on, hop-off system, allowing you to explore the shore. There are also plenty of water sports options including canoeing, paddle boarding, rowing, and windsurfing.

Another fantastic way to take in Derwentwater is via the 10-mile waymarked walk around the lake. Flat and easy paths pass through woodland and shoreline. There are also plenty of picnic stops, cafés and restaurants along the way.
