kielder observatory

Kielder Observatory is located in Northumberland’s Kielder Water and Forest Park, providing a fantastic experience for the whole family.

Kielder Observatory

The observatory is located in Europe’s largest gold tier-protected dark sky park, providing awe-inspiring stargazing opportunities. Experience the famous ‘Kielder moment,’ a unique personal memory when people look up at the stars and realise that they are completely connected to this huge cosmos, yet entirely unique within it.

The Observatory provides astronomers with a permanent facility in the heart of Northumberland, similar to the deck of a ship sailing over the landscape. It’s part of a 10-year art and architecture project that has transformed Kielder Water and Forest Park into an open-air exhibition.

There are programmes for everyone at the observatory, including family events for young explorers, casual events for people of various abilities, introductory events, legends behind the constellations events, and events concentrating on phenomena like the aurora, our moon, dark matter, and exoplanets.
