Lune Valley Cottages
Enjoy a break in one of our Lune Valley holiday cottages and
discover the timeless landscapes and old stone villages of rural
Lancashire, tracing the steps of poets Ruskin, Gray and Wordsworth.
It's almost as if nothing has changed and you'll be swept
away from the modern world.
Walking in the Lune Valley
One of the best ways to explore is on foot, so leave your boots
next to the door of your Lune Valley cottage and get ready to
ramble. Meander along the riverside and soak up the scenery. Break
for refreshments at a welcoming pub and pop your head into an
interesting old church. Follow the well-trodden, 17-mile 'Lune
Valley Ramble' from Lancaster to Kirkby Lonsdale, passing the
Lune Millennium Bridge, the Lune Aqueduct, Hornby Castle,
Devil's Bridge and the Crook O'Lune - a shepherd's
crook-shaped bend in the river, where Turner painted one of his
finest. It's also worth mentioning the Studio Arts Trail (late
May, early June), when local artists showcase their work. Or book a
cottage in the Lune Valley and follow the 37-mile 'Lunesdale
Walk', promising views of South Cumbria, Ingleborough and
Morecambe Bay. Cycling is another option and you'll find a good
network of routes throughout the valley.
If you're holidaying with children, riverside picnics are
always a favourite and two of the best sites are at the Crook
O'Lune and Bull Beck. Or time your cottage holiday in the Lune
Valley around the Wray Scarecrow Festival in May, with scarecrow
parade, funfair, samba and bonfire - guaranteed to put a big grin
on every little face!
