Why Strathpeffer?

With its Victorian heritage and clan history, there are several attractions of historical importance in Strathpeffer and the surrounding area, providing a magnificent holiday for all. Head to the restored Victorian train station, now housing the Highland Museum of Childhood, which showcases life growing up in the Highlands and is a great way to explore local history and traditions. Similarly, the Strathpeffer Pump Room recreates the days of the Strathpeffer Spa, offering visitors an insight into an era when high society flocked to the town for "the season". The beautiful Castle Leod, currently owned by the Earl and Countess of Cromarty, is a pre-15th century castle made of sandstone and described as one of the most romantic and unspoilt castles in the Highlands. Nestled within striking distance of Ben Wyvis, the town has become a popular base for walkers, affording superb views from the surrounding mountains. To the south, vast buttresses, ridges, and gullies form an almost Alpine appearance, with some of the most challenging mountaineering and rock-climbing routes in the UK. One of the most testing is Tower Ridge - not to be tackled by amateurs - this astounding course spans over 600 meters of scrambling and climbing, while there's also the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, standing proudly here. For a change of scenery, the picture-perfect city of Inverness is 20 miles away, home to a charming array of the finest shops, bars and restaurants, as well as a striking cathedral.
