  • "Ynys Castell was all we hoped for in an island holiday home."

The house was welcoming and we found it comfortable with plenty of room for us all (eleven), furniture that was homely and relaxed us; a great kitchen, enough bathrooms. We appreciated having more than one living area. A beautiful garden full of trees and plants (early May), with lots of nooks and crannies, paths and everywhere fantastic views. We all enjoyed living with the pattern of the tides, measuring how long the causeway took to get covered and uncovered; and the birdlife was fascinating as well. And of course, having our own island, if only for a week was just so brilliant. All in all a great location, lovely house in a beautiful part of the world (Beaumaris just up the road) and somewhere we hope to return to one day.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at Ynys Castell it was everything we had hoped for and more."

The house itself had everything we needed, we were 8 adults and 5 children and the house was comfortable for us, the two living areas were an added bonus. The gardens were lovely and the tidal nature of the property was a fun element and wasn’t too limiting as long as you checked the times beforehand. The setting is perfect with views across the water to the Menai bridge, the balconies and well placed garden benches making the most of this relaxing vista. As the previous reviews mentioned the house is in need of some repair, one of the walls upstairs has a large crack, some of the curtains were falling down and the living room door handle kept falling off as it was only held on with one screw. None of this impacted our stay though. The location of the property is brilliant, with many attractions within walking or a short car journey. We visited the beaches of Anglesey, beautiful gardens, Caernarfon castle and an adventure park and there was so much more we didn’t have time for on this trip. It’s worth keeping in mind the tide times will limit when you get on or off the property. Our only disappointment was that on the day of arrival we couldn’t get on the island until 5pm and we had to leave by 9am on the last day. We felt that we lost a days holiday. Having said that I don’t think any amount of time would have been enough at this wonderful place, we highly recommend and will definitely be back.

  • "Absolutely stunning location, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the island."

The house itself is very clean and comfortable. The gardens are amazing. Yes, some parts of the house are in need of an update but this didn't effect our stay one bit. Its a great base to explore Anglesey or stay on the island and escape from the world. Tide times are easy to follow just make sure you plan your day to suit. We would absolutely recommend staying here on your very own island.

  • "We had a great time at the cottage."

The house and grounds were beautiful and we loved waking up there and seeing the view. It's a very special place. The only negatives I could mention was that there was no cooking oil or toilet rolls (2 rolls for 13 guests) so we had to go to the shops but everything else was excellent

  • "Absolutely loved our stay at Ynys Castell."

It was brilliant to be cut off from the rest of the world for hours at a time and the island itself is beautiful, with several slipways and other exciting things to discover. You won't be disappointed by Ynys Castell. The interior is dated other than the bunk rooms/kitchens and bathrooms, but I think that all owes to the charm.

All the carpets badly needed cleaning . The house was very run down and desperately in need of painting which was a shame as the location is brilliant, really breathtaking.

Idyllic, exciting and beautiful views and scenery. The house is very homely and comfortable although dated in parts. The new kitchen is a great addition. Can't praise it enough for a thoroughly relaxing holiday.

A new kitchen with modern facilities has just been fitted, and the house, garden and island were the perfect place to relax for a week. The owner was easy to contact when we had queries, and the locals in Menai Bridge were friendly and welcoming.

  • "Amazing place to stay."

.. the house is a little wonder of it’s own with tons of space for all the family to relax. We had a wonderful time, keeping an eye on the tide and making sure we were back or out in time was part of the fun... absolutely one of my favourite places and we will definitely be back again .

  • "Amazing place."

I've stayed in more up to date places but that isn't the point of this property - you're staying on an island house with 7 bedrooms! Great for your extended family. Kids loved crabbing off the causeway and there's always loads to do on Anglesey. The tide only caught us out once but that was when we were late one day - other than that pretty easy to schedule your trips on and off.

Mice were heard in downstairs double ensuite bedroom. Garden fabulous, made the holiday, had a wonderful time canoeing from the beach at the rear of the house. Would stay again. It was great being on a small island cut off at high tide.

It was great to have our own island and we would love to return. The house itself is a little dated in areas, but this adds to the charm. Some areas have been updated tastefully. The bench in the garden is a nice touch and would be perfect on warm days. It was well equipped with everything we needed. Thank you to the caretaker who was helpful and informative. Top tip: You have to plan when to arrive and depart and days out because of the tide.

  • "Absolutely loved this place as a base for a large get together."

We were blessed with good weather so the kids played in the garden the whole time. We loved the different viewpoints from bedroom balconies, the upstairs lounge and especially the swing chair on the waters edge. The scenery is stunning and so quiet. Would totally stay here again as it’s a truly magical place.

  • "This is a stunning location with amazing views from every direction and it is hard to find one that's any better - we have stayed here three times now and can highly recommend it - if you love the fact that you are cut off by the tide twice a day it is a one off."

The house is so comfortable and homely although it is not the most modern or up to date but overall a wonderful experience.

  • "The location of the cottage was outstanding."

The cottage itself was a little disappointing. The balcony on the upstairs bedroom was not particularly secure, the upstairs en suite was not very clean and judging by the amount of dust and spiderweb it was not just a weeks worth. The toilet brush was a dirty brown stump. All the toilets were stained , the cooker didn’t work on the grill or the top oven. The overall finish of the property was shabby.

  • "This is an amazing cottage in a fantastic location."

The accomodation was very good for our needs in size and bedrooms and eating areas. The lounges were cosy and spacious. Beds and bedding were comfy and clean and new. However, we felt the kitchen was tired and needed refreshing. The down stairs toilets had flushing problems. The outside space was fantastic and we enjoyed walking around and sitting in the gardens.
