  • "I am surprised that you obviously did not publish my previous feedback report."

It was not a good one and I wonder if you did not publish it because of that factor. I have written to the CEO of Sykes cottages about the issues we had at your holiday cottage to begin with and the response from the staff at Rutland Retreats which was quickly made. We were very disappointed as it had such a good online appearance and was an expensive short holiday break and should have had immaculate first sight appearance.

  • "Our lodge, Seaton, was one of the collection of the retreats at Barnsdale Lodge and it was wonderful."

It far exceeded our expectations and was larger than it appeared in the photos. The collection of Lodges is a lovely country retreat in an ideal location for exploring Rutland. We walked around the reservoir and enjoyed meals out in nearby Oakham. We enjoyed spa treatments at nearby Barnsdale Hotel. The Lodge itself is very well equipped and would be perfect both in summer, with doors opening out in to a tree enclosed grassed area with sun loungers. We were there in the rain and it was nice to cost up with the log-burner. Only two tiny bits of feedback - for such a well equipped property it was odd that there was no coat hooks. And also I would have expected some of the soft furnishings - cushions, headboards etc- to be removed in Covid times.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

You did tell us that the check in time was 3pm and in fact it is 4pm. But the main problem was that we had no hot water until we got up on the final morning. This made things difficult.

About the location

EXTON, RUTLAND

Stamford 7.8 miles; Melton Mowbray 14.4 miles

Exton offers a typical English village setting, with its traditional, stone buildings crowded around the green, in the East Midlands county of Rutland. The Fox and Hounds public house overlooks the tree-planted green, a former 17th century coaching inn, oozing with character, offering cosy winter evenings around the fireplace and lazy summer days out in the beer garden. To the south of the village are Barnsdale Gardens, created by Geoff Hamilton for the BBC's Gardeners' World, and the Barnsdale Hall Hotel and Country Club. Oakham is the nearest town, boasting a combination of stone and thatched buildings, a range of shops, as well as pubs, bars and eateries to choose from. There is also a local history museum, a 12th century castle and a 14th century church. The Rutland Water Nature Reserve offers watersports, a small water adventure park, birdwatching, a sailing club and fishing opportunities, with the Rutland Water Golf Course overlooking the lake. The train station provides access to the cities of Nottingham and Leicester with shops to browse and architecture to admire. The market town of Stamford is a mere stone's throw away, with its attractive Georgian-style buildings used in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice film, independent shops, cosy pubs and a range of restaurants. Melton Mowbray is further afield, with more amenities to explore. Home to the famous pork pie, this town also offers The Regal Cinema, Melton Theatre and the Melton Carnegie Museum. The village of Exton offers a warm and friendly atmosphere for the perfect holiday exploring the East Midlands.
