  • "The cottage is very cosy and comfortable."

There are shops etc a 20 minute drive away. The owner thought of everything in terms of us getting settled in (he left a booklet detailing the cottage, appliances and the surrounding area etc). The fire was great and I could have spent the whole holiday sat in front of it. We did have a couple of issues, firstly the windows were extremely dirty when we arrived (didn't do the view any good), the gardeners came and worked whilst we were trying to relax in the cottage and we would have prefferred this to have been arranged on a day when nobody is there etc. Finally, you have to drive through a large yard with diggers and a shed etc to get to the cottage, and as we were seetting off back home we picked up a nail from here which punctured our tyre. Had to make an hour detour to Kyle to get it repaired.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and the wood burning stove in particular. We are sorry that the windows were dirty. It’s not always possible to prevent this when there is a mix of sand in the rain, but usually fresh rainfall helps to wash the windows off. We are really sorry that you were inconvenienced by the gardener. It is very difficult to find gardeners in the area and we have been keen to keep the garden looking nice. Unfortunately gardeners don’t only work on changeover days (Fridays & Saturdays) as it would be impossible for them to do everything required in such a short window. We have asked our gardener to do the work on a Friday if possible but this is not always possible so to keep the garden in good shape for everyone’s enjoyment, the gardener may come during a rental period. On balance we feel it’s better to keep the garden in good shape rather than limit this, although we accept that on occasions this may mean that the gardener visits while people are renting the house. We are really sorry to hear about your puncture. This is certainly very bad luck and not something we have ever experienced before. The land next door to us is a working croft and as you say, you have to drive through this working land to reach our house which is over a burn and completely self-contained in a beautiful garden of about half an acre which surrounds the house and has views of the loch and surrounding hills. We are pleased that you managed to get your tyre fixed at Kyle. We hope that overall you still enjoyed your stay in this beautiful place. Property Owner

  • "Comfortable cottage situated in a lovely location giving excellent access to Glen Elchaig from which there are a good variety of walks."

The lovely village of Plockton is not too far a way and worthy of a visit for good eateries and easy walks. The only fault we found with our stay was the shower which ceased to provide much water after it had been on for a few minutes. But it was not a big problem as we could use the bath which was very good to soak in after a long and sweaty day in the hills!

Really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the comfort of the cottage and the lovely location. Sorry you had an issue with the water flow from the shower and many thanks for flagging this. We're pleased to say that the shower is fixed and all good to go. Property Owner

  • "Very nice cottage."

Well equipped. Could do with better cuttlery. Entree to cottage not very nice: very bad track through scrapyard just before the cottage. But once there, lovely sight on the loch below and the mountains across the loch. Nice garden too.

We are so glad that you liked the cottage and found it well equipped. It's always useful to get suggestions. The land outside the property is part of a working croft and the track is an unadopted road so it does mean an uneven surface. The local community work hard to try to maintain the track without any public funding. It's great that the beauty of the garden surrounding the cottage and lovely views of the loch and mountains contributed to your overall enjoyment. Property Owner

Stunning views from its elevated position with thoughtfully placed benches to sit and enjoy the sights and glorious birdsong. A delightful saunter down a short winding path through the woodland leads to a 'secret' bench. Particularly enjoyed the cuckoo and swathes of bluebells. Wildlife in abundance right on the doorstep . The guest file is excellent with advice and information about all appliances. It was a good base for exploring the area. I would ask the owners to replace the double glazed unit in the kitchen window. The seal has gone and the unit has persistent condensation. This is a pity as this obscures the view from this window which would be the best from the house.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay in the cottage."

It really was just what we wanted: cosy, comfortable, quiet, well-equipped, great views. It was the perfect base from which to explore Eilean Donan Castle, Plockton, Attadale Gardens, etc. The stars on a clear night were phenomenal with the Milky Way clearly seen. The beds and the furniture were very comfortable and well maintained, and the art on the walls very tasteful (not vital I know, but adds to the Highlands experience!). The bedrooms have blackout blinds on the velux windows, which we really appreciated. The owner is a composer and even shared a link to his music, which is perfect to listen to whilst taking in the views. My favourite places were the sofa on the landing, which was the perfect spot to curl up with a book and a cuppa, and the picnic bench in the garden behind the house which got the sun in the afternoon for lovely dining al fresco. I would have given it 5 stars, but the flush on the loo was temperamental and the wood burning stove has a hole in its grate so it went through wood at speed without really kicking out much heat. There were also a couple of small cobwebs, but I realise that in the autumn spiders will always find a way in!

Many thanks for your feedback. We are really pleased that you loved your stay in our cottage. Thanks for flagging the issue with the loo. It's all fixed now and the stove has a new grate. Hope to see you again sometime. Property Owner

The location and scenery have been lovely - the perfect space for a remote holiday with a child! Lots of hiking opportunities around, visits to Plockton and other wonderful spaces. Very clean, very good kitchen equipment, good advice in the visitors' book and the cottage manual. It was worth every pence spent. We had a wonderful time, thanks for the opportunity! Just one little improvement: neither the map not the three words location on sykes are correct! However, the location is put correctly on Google maps.

The whole experience was great from the fantastic views we woke up to every morning to the cosy fires we sat around in the evenings. During the day we went to the local beauty spots of which there are many and popped over to the Isle of Skye, only 5 miles away where we enjoyed the majestic landscapes enhanced by the misty rain. If you can book a lunch at the Stein Inn in Dunvegan, it’s a must! The cottage is very homely, and we will come back for sure.

The location was very peaceful and calming. The cottage very comfortable and welcoming. There is very little that could be improved. Given that the cottage is located in such a pristine area, it would be nice to see all cleaning products used in the cottage being eco-friendly so that anything going into the water system is as safe as possible. One of the cleaning products was by ecover but all others were not eco-certified. That is probably the only improvement we can think of. Thank you once again.

  • "Nice cottage in a great location for several Munros and Corbetts."

Comfortable for two adults with winter walking kit, would have been cramped for four people and all their gear. Welcome pack for the wood burners was lacking unless it was meant to be 6 pieces of kindling and one log? The wood burners could do with upgrading, or at least replace the door seals so they draw properly, we struggled to keep them going. We live in a rural area and rely totally on wood burners for our heating. The kitchen was well equipped with a variety of pans, oven dishes, mugs and plates. Some oven gloves would have been handy.

The location is ideal for exploring Skye, Applecross, Eilean Donan Castle etc. The cottage had everything you could want within reason, all the basics and a few extras such as the wood burning stoves and amazing views. The stoves are described as the most efficient way to heat the cottage, although "efficient" is perhaps the wrong word, as they were expensive to run, yet very effective. Even when it was -2 outside it was lovely and warm inside. There were only two of us, but it would still be fine with 4 people staying. We are considering returning to the area next year and may stay at the cottage again.

The cottage was warm, nicely renovated and well equiped. There was a good selection of dvds however it would be better if the television was also available. We're not there to watch tv but on the darker nights it's nice to have the option. We had very heavy rain which came down and leaked heavily onto the kitchen woodburner. It didn't cause any problem at all but may worry some guests. Overall we were very happy with our holiday and would visit again.

We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay and would be happy to visit again. Sorry you had rain down the chimney. It?s something that can happen in these old croft houses when the rain is particularly heavy. We are glad that it didn't cause you any problem at all. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was not really suitable for a letting in November in its current condition."

It has background electric heating and two wood burners to heat the downstairs, which is one large open plan space. However the two stoves are both old and do not work properly - we have stoves at home and are well used to using them. Neither sealed properly - there were gaps in the door and one had a broken baffle at the back, so they took masses of logs and did not heat up . It was therefore difficult to keep the cottage warm enough and cost about £10 a night in logs - unreasonable on top of the cost of the cottage. It owuld not be a big investment to sort the stoves. Otherwise the cottage was lovely.

Thanks so much for your feedback. We have added a turbo electric convector heater and replaced the seals on the woodburning stoves so everyone can stay warm whatever the weather. Property Owner
