Martindale Cottage

What a super place to spend a relaxing week.

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable accommodation. We slept downstairs because of the dogs but the upstairs bedrooms were very well furnished and presented. The kitchen facilities are high spec and everything had been thought of. We used public transport locally a couple of times. The bus stop is very close by and the park and ride for Whitby a short drive. So many nice places to visit nearby. We would certainly stay again.

We have previously stayed in many holiday cottages but now can equal Martindale Cottage.

The accommodation is excellent, modern, clean, comfortable and in a great location!

The property was very well presented with a lovely outdoor space to enjoy a sunny evening.

Well equipped kitchen, comfortable living area and spacious bedrooms. Easily accessible to Whitby but located in a lovely village with fab fish/chip shop, butchers and bakers. Only negative was in comparison to other Sykes cottages we have stayed in the house was showing some signs of wear but didn't mark down as we visited later in the season. Overall a fantastic property and would stay again if revisiting the area.

We had a short but very pleasant stay at Martindale Cottage with 5 adults and 1 18-month-old child.

Nothing is lacking and everything is perfectly arranged. There is nothing in the photos or description that is incorrect. It is nice that the garden is walled so that the little one could play safely behind the house. There are safe stair gates and plenty of toys for children. Good beds, nice bathroom facilities, and a well-equipped kitchen. The service is also perfect. We had a small problem about which we contacted the very attentive and friendly owner, who was on site within half an hour to arrange everything for us.

New frying pans do not suitable for conventional cooking top not heavy enough ,but a nice touch was the welcome pack and milk in fridge we would book this property again

Much appreciated welcome with wine & biscuits. The beds were comfiest we’ve ever had in holiday accommodation ; obviously a well cared for & loved property with homely touches. Great to have easy parking as well . Just to add that a few more larger mugs would be appreciated! Thanks to owners- would highly recommend property in this lovely village!

We just had a great stay at Martindale cottage for our wedding in Whitby.

The facilities are superb and far above what we were expecting. We took our 2 dogs with us and they were comfortable in their grates that we brought for them. The garden is dog friendly if you have a small dog however our only issue was we have a very active and agile Working Cocker Spaniel he jumped up onto the wall which runs around the upper part of the garden and leads past the gate. I had to place several items of the garden furniture and one of the bins on here to stop him escaping. To make this truly dog prove a fence needs to be placed here.

We loved our stay at Martindale Cottage.

It's been beautifully furnished providing modern but comfortable living. The location is ideal to escape the crowds in town whilst only being a few minutes drive away. It is also only a short trip to Goathland and Grosmont for walks and visits to the steam train. There is a beautiful walk down Iburndale Lane along the river to Briggswath which is recommended if you have a dog. We were visiting family, having both lived in Sleights many years ago so it was lovely to see it has not changed, even the cakes at Bothams and the Radfords pies!

Lovely, clean modern property with excellent facilities and the added benefit of off road parking.

This is our third visit to Martindale Cottage.

It really is a lovely home from home and it's got everything you need for a great holiday. We'll definitely be back again.

Absolutely loved our stay here!

The house is absolutely gorgeous and gives such a cosy vibe. The bedrooms are very spacious, beds very comfortable and it was perfect for our 2 children. They really did think of everything, toys and puzzles in the cupboard for families, lighting on the stairs, under floor heating throughout downstairs. They even kindly left us some milk, wine, bacon, rolls and tea and coffee for our arrival which was very sweet. We would definitely recommend martindale cottage!

This property is outstanding.

Cleanliness, maintenance, facilities and the little extras such as the welcome pack, washing up liquid, washing and dishwasher tablets, condiments, tin foil and the list could go on. Entry into the property and the communication was excellent. The provision of a travel cot and bedding was welcomed as it was one less thing to transport. Great location a minute from a wonderful fish and chips cafe. A lovely countryside walk into Whitby with the dogs, a local shop ample country pubs . Secure back yard for the dogs and even the provision of dog bowls and poo bags. The owners have obviously given thought into the smallest detail which shows. Parking for two cars on the drive. Two wonderfully appointed en suite bedrooms, one with a bath which baby Winslie appreciated on her first holiday. Informative information booklet in the house with instructions for all appliances and handy local trips and menus. This is a great base for a trip to Yorkshire near to train stations that serve the North Yorkshire Moors railway. We visited Goathlands station, where Harry Potter and other series had been filmed and were delighted to see the Flying Scotsman, which meant nothing to the kids, but I explained the history. In summary well done Martindale cottage. Just one really picky comment, the inclusion of the fuse box location in the welcome information would be useful as we had an outage whilst there. I did find it and it has probably never been mentioned before, but I’m sure these owners are always trying to hit the next rung on the ladder.

An absolute gem of a holiday home, a real home from home.

Excellently appointed with quality appliances, impeccably clean and decorated to a very high standard. It's location is also excellent with a bakers, convenience store, pub and quite possibly the best butchers all within walking distance.

It was well equipped & very clean. The owners left a welcome pack full of goodies which was a nice gesture. Sleights itself is a nice quiet village surrounded by wonderful views. We highly recommend this property.

An absolutely delightful property in a beautiful village with so many amenities, great village shops, amazing fish and chips and 2 great pubs.

Martindale cottage is so well equipped with everything you need, beautiful decor, great attention to detail, comfort and space, especially the kitchen area, so much space!!!! It is just 10 minutes drive from Whitby and beautiful Sands end beach as well as close proximity to other beautiful places. We were a family of 6 and a dog and the property was perfect for us. The outside space with BBQ is wonderful for relaxing in the evening. I couldn't fault this property in any way. We will definitely return! Beautiful property, beautiful village, we had a fantastic stay at Martindale!

Very clean and comfortable house.

Nice modern kitchen, however lacked, or we couldn't find them, some utensils ie vegetable peeler, salad spinner. Courtyard garden was lovely with plenty of good garden furniture, also a suntrap. Good bbq although we didn't use it. Comfortable beds and nice soft furnishings. Would have no qualms in recommending to friends. In essence a great stay in a good area for exploring the coast and moors

Really lovely cottage, kitchen facilities were great and beds really comfy.

Cottage was nicely situated and neighbours very friendly. Little bit disappointed not to have any gas for the BBQ and nothing left for the fire pit, but this did not affect our stay.

Absolutely fantastic property.

By chance we met the owner as we were a little early arriving and she was so lovely and welcoming. We used this property as a base and visited flamingo land with the kids and Whitby on another day. There is also within 10 minutes an amazing butchers and cake shop which I would highly recommend. The property was done to a very high standard, very modern and very clean largely. We did notice a lot of dog hair on one of the rugs which seemed to get everywhere but other than that, it was spotless. The outdoor area was perfect for two young kids to zoom around on their scooters. Plus, the outdoor bbq was amazing! We used it two nights in a row. Shame the weather hadn’t been better for us to sit outside a bit more. Upstairs bedrooms were quite light so if you have young kids in cots (a very good cot available) a mobile black out blind would be recommended. 10/10 though, lovely property and would defo stay again. Thank you.

Location perfect for all that North Yorkshire has to offer One suggestion a hot tub could be placed on the patio at the back of the cottage

Everything was just perfect, the welcome pack and the dog treats were a lovely thought. Beds very comfortable, the yard was just perfect for our dog! Everything was 10/10 would definitely book again. Thank you for letting us rent it out , will be recommending to friends and family

Light, airy, well equipped and furnished. Really enjoyed our stay here and you can see this property has been equipped with everything you need. Great location too for exploring the Yorkshire Coast. Would recommend

accommodation very clean, easy access down stairs bedroom ideal for our us as we had a disabled member of our family.

we had a slight problem which was quickly sorted out by the host. we would book again when returning to Whitby.

Very comfortable house.

Very modern so we aged persons 78 and 82 years had a few problems with tv and hob! A very nice village with brilliant bakery and butcher's.

Well equipped and comfortable. Clean plenty of room for the 5 of us who stayed.

The cottage is very high spec and in a good position.

The layout is great and we had a lovely family holiday. Unfortunately the shower in our room didn’t work which would have been a bigger issue if we hadn’t been there with other family members. Some communication around this would have been helpful as it was known and some goodies left to compensate. Generally well equipped and nice touches eg toys for children. High tech facilities so instructions would be helpful. A teapot and cafetiere would have been helpful for us older people. Would have given 5* if shower worked. Overall a positive experience and would recommend this property for a holiday base.

We had a wonderful stay at Martindale Cottage & wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.

Overall lovely accommodation, the only critique we had was the cleanliness when we noted a £350 service charge for cleaning. When we arrived there were lots of long hairs and dust around the white marble flooring in the unsuite, lot's of crumbs left in the bottom on the oven and the rug in the lounge was slippery under our feet so moved for comfort but found alot of sand and dust underneath. We shook the rug outside and tidied up with the dustpan and brush so it wasn't an issue, but we assumed perhaps it had been quickly over turned as we felt things had been missed. It was lovely to have a welcome pack. A well throughout outbtreats for humans and pet owners. My only feedback was the lack of sugar, salt etc in the kitchen which all other places usually provide. On a whole, the house and outdoor space was lovely, and the tree blowing outside the bedroom window in the sunlight with the view of fields was a wellbeing treat. Thanks for a lovely stay ♡

This is a lovely property in a nice peaceful location.

Ideal to use as a base to get out and explore. The property is modern, clean and has everything that you could need. If you have a dog then this property has a nice enclosed garden too. We really enjoyed it and will be back.
