  • "A lovely large modern house with a homely feel."

    Ideally situated with magnificent views of the countryside and sea. Plenty of room for 10 of us. Pool table was a big hit as was the swimming pool. Slot system worked well and it was lovely, clean and warm. Grandkids loved it. Beautiful walk to the beach and overall a great holiday. Highly recommended.

  • "Having paid over £3000 for Easter week I was not expecting to be beside a building site."

    We were not told further cottages were being built on the site, and while not adjacent to our accommodation it did have an impact on our holiday. The bathrooms were 5* but the living accommodation was tired and the kitchen lacked equipment. 7 saucepans and 2 lids! Also the fridge/freezer dispenser was not working. This was designated a dog friendly property but the back door to the grounds had 3 steps down and no outside light. Health and Safety would have something to say if someone slipped in the dark and the owner/agents could be liable for damages. As we were meeting up with family North Farm is ideal for such occasions and I am sure that once all the building work is finished it will be great, just a pity that we were not told the Complex was still being completed.

  • "We have just returned from a week at granary stone house with 8 adults and 2 children and we had a really great week."

    The house is amazing, very spacious well equipped and comfortable enough for us all. The heating was very efficient and we didn’t need to use log burner. The pool table was a real bonus too. The kitchen had everything we needed and we prepared a few home cooked meals including Sunday dinner with ease. The washing machine and dryer were also a great bonus. The views were stunning and the walk up to the beach was really lovely and we saw hare and deer on a few occasions and was lovely seeing the lambs in the fields adjacent too. The 2 grandchildren loved the pond area with the ducks and the musical pipes but the play area wasn’t really interesting them much and was a bit sparse. The swimming pool was great, very clean and efficient and well thought out. The house is situated close to some beautiful coastal gems and we would definitely recommend. The only downside for us is the garden area. I feel it would have really benefited from an enclosed garden for the safety of both young children and the dogs, especially where the outside dining area is and also at the front.

  • "Excellent property in a brilliant location."

    Very clean and warm with a full range of kitchen equipment and a lovely dinning table great for family 'gatherings'. All bedrooms and bathrooms were as you would expect and living room was just perfect for our large family. The swimming pool was a delight, especially enjoyed as it was bookable and therefore private to us at our time of booking. Outside facilities, including playground and football field were well used by our younger ones and walks to the beach were a regular feature. Again, excellent property in a brilliant location.

  • "We had a fantastic time at The Granary."

    Fab location and views WOW. Plenty of room for 8 adults and 2 children and a dog. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed, the living room was spacious and sofa extremely comfortable. The swimming pool was a real plus. Only slight issue was that the beds were a bit too soft for us and quality of quilts and pillows could have been better. Would definitely love to go again

  • "All in all we had an absolutely fantastic time!"

    Just a couple of negatives:- we couldn’t check in till 5pm and found the property cold on arrival so the heating put on a couple of hours beforehand would have been better! Also on the first night the heating upstairs didn’t work at all but after a txt message and phone call to the maintenance man all was sorted and the rest of our stay was perfect! We would definitely return and recommend you!

    Perfect for a large family group with young children. A baby swing might be a nice addition to the play park. Our 18mth old was too little for the big swing. A whisk would be a good addition to the kitchen equipment

    Complex excellent with nice pool, grounds, play area, etc. House great size and rooms for our needs. But mean-spirited pettiness which could easily be improved - 5pm arrival and 9.30am departure!, Insufficient loo roll, washer tabs, washing up liquid, only one usable snooker cue, ban on inflatables in pool. Had to find supermarket to buy hygiene products on penultimate day of holiday.

    The safe walkways to the beach and Embleton were excellent for a family with young children. The property was let down by dirty plates left in the cupboard, wood floors in need of a good clean and inadequate sized bath towels.

  • "Great place to spend time with family or friends."

    Close to the beach and lovely windy walks. If I was going to ‘nit pick’ maybe not enough kitchen ware to cook for 12 people but for some, who wants to cook all weekend!! Middle ring on the cooler is a bit dodgy but all in all a lovely place. We would certainly stay again if we were in that area again.

  • "A lovely property with plenty of space for our 3 generations, a modern interior with a cosy feel, and the most stunning view over fields and nature reserve right down to the coast and the North Sea - fabulous, especially at sunrise and sunset!"

    It was spotlessly clean and the kitchen is well-equipped with pans, utensils, cutlery and crockery. The large fridge/freezer with chilled water and ice dispenser was very welcome. Thoughtful provision of games and toys for the younger children was also welcome. There is plenty of outside space for children to explore, fun trails, ducks to feed, and a nice playground. There is a fairly easy, and interesting, walk down to one of Northumberland's finest beaches. We enjoyed our swimming pool sessions - towels provided too! Everything about our stay, from the booking procedure to the prompt response to a couple of pre-stay queries, to arrival and key collection, was hassle free. We would definitely book a stay here again.

  • "Because of the late check in time of 5 pm it was dark on arrival so what we thought was the front of the house was not because the key safe was at the side of the property."

    We eventually found the key safe after contacting the owner on our mobile phone. Apart from that we all enjoyed our 5 day stay and the swimming pool was a bonus especially for our 4 grand children

  • "My family and I had a lovely stay at the Granary Stonehouse."

    The location and views were beautiful and we walked too and from the beach every day. The added bonus of the on-site pool was very much appreciated by us all as well. The house was very clean and comfortable and had most things that we needed. We understood that covid had impacted some comforts that would have probably been included, however we do have a few suggestions going forward to further enhance customers stays. The towels in the bedrooms would benefit from changing to bath sheets as the current towels were too small for adults. The kitchen could benefit from a few more serving bowls as well as flat baking trays as we cooked meals for the majority of us during our stay and we didn’t have everything we needed for cooking/ serving. Salt and pepper and cooking oil would also be a welcome addition. Due to the cost of the accommodation I strongly believe a welcome letter and a small welcome baskets of perhaps a small carton of milk as well as tea and coffee would be a good option to include to welcome guests as we had driven a few hours to get to Embelton and our grocery delivery was delayed meaning we had to get back in the car to find some essentials. We have stayed at many accommodations both out of covid and during covid and the accommodation which is similar pricing always supply a small welcome basket which really helps make you feel more welcome and comfortable. We also had an issue with one of the gas hobs which the owner had arranged a gas engineer to come out to fix. Unfortunately this was arranged during our stay and not on one of the changeover days at a time inconvenient to us. We were all sat eating lunch in the kitchen when the engineer came out which meant we had to all move so they could get to the hob. The check in/ check out times were quite late/ early. An extra hour both sides would be better so you can enjoy a bit more of the accommodation. Other than the above recommendations we did all have a lovely holiday and would recommend to others and we would return.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at the Granary Stone house."

    For the three families in our group we had our own space, clean and large bathrooms and a large area to all come together for meal times and relaxing. Having the pool was a fantastic extra and it was clean and easy to access. The house is a great location for driving to the key places we wanted to visit. The site is lovely and quiet and we were left to enjoy our holiday.

  • "The owners of North Farm Cottages have put a great deal of thought into not just the accommodation but also the facilities for families: well laid out and maintained paths through the fields leading to the beach, plenty space for children to play, a good playpark for younger children and a duck pond where children (and adults) can feed the ducks."

    The swimming pool is excellent and the rota system works well. Great location for trips out to other lovely places. Would definitely recommend this!

  • "The setting, the house and the facilities were excellent We enjoyed the use of the lovely warm swimming pool and were impressed with the playground and other activities of interest to our great granddaughter such as the sculptures,the animals and feeding the ducks The pool table was very popular with all the boys I thought the house was well equipped especially that there were flutes for fizz as well as wine glasses!"

    A separate armchair would have been helpful for my elderly husband but the sofas were great.

  • "A very promising property."

    The quality of the beds was disappointing for the price we paid for the property. In downstairs bathroom, cold tap loose on basin, toilet flush loose. Bath towels were on small size (pleased we had taken our own bath sheets). In the lounge area I don’t think they had moved the unit under the TV for a long time looking at the dirt you could see. (We did not fix). Likewise under the large sofa unit and toys were found under a bed in one of the upstairs beds when we checked that the children hadn’t left anything. Elsewhere the property was clean. Unfortunately no key available to open the Juliet balcony doors. Well equipped kitchen and large range cooker. Would have appreciated some pint glasses. Nice little playground for the children and pool is one of the best in a small complex we have come across. Description does say walk to beach was pushchair friendly, well perhaps if you have an all terrain slimline model it may be. Pleased we had no children requiring pushchair.

  • "Granary Stone House is in a wonderful position with amazing sea views."

    It is well placed for visiting some of Northumberlands most beautiful and interesting sights.There are convenient walking trails along the coast and Dunstanburgh castle is within easy walking distance. Granary stone House is part of a small complex of holiday cottages and it is good to be able to share access to the swimming pool with the other residents. The pool is a good size and well maintained and heated.

    Pool was excellent. Very helpful provision of extra linen for an additional fee for midweek guest change. Was surprised there was no welcome pack, just a tiny carton of semi skimmed milk. Rather too many notices on arrival instead notifying you of check out time and charges for left items. Accidentally left £20 worth of drink making tea/ coffee etc but was unable to pick this up as all foodstuff even when unperishable and unused is disposed of immediately. Needed extra toilet rolls although a telephone query to Sykes had informed me they were provided. The allocation is 2 per bathroom for a week.

    The walk to the beach was superb. The accommodation met all our expectations for the 9 of us age range 7-75. The only suggestion I would have is maybe to add a column in the signing in book for the pool for swapping a time slot? It’s hard to please everyone but there is no way of knowing if a) you won’t to able to use pool in the day and therefore your slot free or b) just ask if anyone would like to swap a time ?

  • "The rental was perfect for my husband’s surprise 70s birthday and my granddaughter’s 3rd birthday, it accommodated 8 adults and 4 children perfectly."

    It was very comfortable, clean and had everything supplied which we could possibly require. The swimming pool was clean and warm. The only disappointment was the swimming pool. When I made the booking through Sykes the picture of the accommodation was shown attached to the swimming pool. There was nothing on the website which listed this as a shared swimming pool. We only discovered that this had been misleading advertising when a friend looked on the website weeks later and informed us that it was advertised as a shared swimming pool. This was extremely disappointing for all of our party as this was the main reason we booked this particular accommodation. The allocation of slots for use of the pool need looking into. To only find out when your slots are on arrival is very unsatisfactory, especially when planning days out and activities away from the rental. To be allocated it from 2.30 - 3.30pm on Mothering Sunday is very unsatisfactory when lunching away from the accommodation and not being able to swim on a full tummy. We also noticed not all of the allocated slots for the pool were used when it would have been more convenient for us to use them. I really do think you should come up with a better system. Also a lighter or matches, if allowed, would have been helpful to enable us to light the log fire.

  • "We loved our family stay in Granary Stone Cottage."

    It had lots of little extras that made it a truly wonderful experience, from shampoo, body wash, body lotion to beach towels and chocolates on the table. We would definitely recommend this cottage to everyone. The beach walks were a must with breathtaking scenery. Even if the weather was bitterly cold. We had great fun in the pool too.

  • "A great place for a family holiday – Granary Stone House is very comfortable and well designed, with plenty of space for our party of three generations."

    The pool table gets plenty of use in all weathers. In fact we were lucky with the weather which meant we could enjoy the longish walk through fields and wild flowers down to the beach. It's a good mile (good exercise for joggers and walkers of all ages in our party) wouldn't be quite such fun in wet and windy weather. It's a beautiful location and there's plenty to explore Low Newton and Embleton and Craster in particular are all welcoming places to visit with good local pubs, excellent sea food and great character. The sunset cruise from Seahouses to the Farne Islands made a perfect activity on the last night. All in all, a very happy week. We can highly recommend Granary Stone House, the efficient friendly support from Sykes, and we hope to be back.

The property

A luxury, semi-detached barn conversion on the edge of the popular coastal village of Embleton, the location is simply stunning with uninterrupted views over Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle.

Tailor made for large families or groups of friends, a great deal of thought has been put into the layout, with a spacious sitting area with sumptuous sofas and a large TV and snooker table, this is a great place for all the group to relax.

The adjoining, well-equipped kitchen area has a large dining table and is perfect for celebration meals or family board games.

On the ground floor there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower cubicle for those who find the stairs a little challenging.

The first floor comprises a very large master bedroom with views over Embleton Bay, a sitting area, a large en-suite bathroom and an adjoining twin room, plus a further two bedrooms and a bathroom.

This is a perfect cottage for a break beside the sea.

A safe, gently sloping farm track leads from the farm down to stunning Embleton Bay, with little extras along the way to make the walk more exciting. Guests can say hello to the three deer, stop off at the old pill box for a rest or relax on the beach and spend the day making sandcastles and paddling. From the beach, turn left and take a stroll to the Ship at Low Newton, famous for its microbrewery and scrumptious food, or for a more ambitious walk, turn right and take in Dunstanburgh Castle. Head to Craster, where you can sample the delights of a crab sandwich in the Jolly Fisherman, or pick up some kippers from Robson's famous smokery. There is so much to see and do in Northumberland, with Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Holy Island, Bamburgh, Warkworth and Berwick all within easy reach. The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area. For the keen golfer, Dunstanburgh Links Course is about 1 mile away - just one of several excellent courses in the vicinity.
