Why the Lake District?

Lake District cottages are surrounded by towering fells and glistening waters, promising the ideal base for outdoor pursuits. From Windermere to Keswick, find the perfect fit amongst this collection of Lake District holidays.

What are the best Lake District attractions?

Lowther Castle and Gardens is a popular Lake District attraction that offers a fun-filled day out for all ages. Visitors can explore the castle ruins and learn about its history through the exhibition, while younger guests can enjoy one of the largest adventure playgrounds in the UK.

Scafell Pike promises to be a challenging but rewarding experience, offering stunning views of the surrounding Lake District. Look forward to tackling England's highest mountain, standing at 978 meters during a Lake District holiday.

The World of Beatrix Potter is another popular Lake District attraction. This indoor exhibit features life-sized recreations of scenes from beloved children's books, as well as a family-friendly café with character-themed decor.

Castlerigg Stone Circle is an iconic landmark in the Lake District. Situated to the east of Keswick, it is widely regarded as one of the most dramatically situated stone circles in all of Britain. This attraction offers stunning views of the surrounding fells, making a great spot for picnics and photography.

Coniston Water is a picturesque lake, surrounded by scenic hills and woodlands. Walking around the lake is a popular activity, offering beautiful views of the water and the landscape.

What are the best Lake District activities?

When it comes to Lake District activities, visiting Windermere lake is a must. Famed as being the largest lake in England, you can find a variety of watersports here, including wild swimming, kayaking, and canoeing.

Wild swimming is a popular pastime in the Lake District, with some of the most popular spots including Buttermere Lake in Buttermere and Black Moss Pot in the Borrowdale area.

Scafell Pike is the tallest mountain in England and boasts a roller coaster of rocky summits and towering crags, a challenge for even the most experienced hiker. Other hiking opportunities during a Lake District holiday include Helvellyn near Ambleside, Catbells near Keswick and Helm Crag near Grasmere.

Alternatively, visit Grizedale Forest, which offers an unrivalled day out for the entire family. Activities here include gentle walks, Go Ape Tree Top Adventures, and a magnitude of mountain biking trails.

What other people are saying

The property was very well maintained and reflected in the write up on the website.

The property was very well maintained and reflected in the write up on the website.Overall there were some issues that on reflection did not make our stay as relaxing as we had hoped for. In the main this was due to the somewhat controlling nature of the owner who lives on site. His immediate welcome was not relaxed as his priority was to inform guests about the restrictions that he has put in place such as how to park ones car and not damage the driveway or other fabric of the surrounding area. Instructions abide throughout the property on what not to do such as the french doors are for ventilation only !! you are not permitted to walk through them meaning that the two ladies in our party who have mobility issues had to walk to the rear of the house down some difficult steps with no hand rail. There was no fire escape plan or instruction in place nor any fire extinguishers or fire blanket for the oven top. The restrictions for use of the oven that all cooked foods had to be covered to ensure that future guests had a clean oven was indeed very controlling after all it is a self catering property. This was further exacerbate when we used the outside BBQ as an alternative only to be told that they had forgotten to mention this facility was out of use owing to a missing heat shield that may damage some neighbouring plants.I could continue but I think you will get my drift. Nice property wonderful views but after all it is a holiday let and has to be used.

Spent a lovely week at this cottage as a family of five. Plenty of space as the property is much larger than the initial photo would indicate. Property has great facilities with lots of little touches. Welcome pack was excellent and a lovely touch. Communication with the owner before and during the stay was excellent.

We had a fantastic stay. This was a great find. A cosy and tastefully decorated cottage with everything we needed to make our stay an enjoyable and comfortable one. Wonderful coastal walks and not too far from towns for a bit of retail therapy.

Fell Cottage is simply perfect.

Fell Cottage is simply perfect. It is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. There is everything you would need for a stay away from home. Every room is comfortable and a joy to spend time in. Bed was so comfortable and as were the settees and chairs. So much so that I've ordered the same pillows to try and replicate the same sound sleep at.home ! We had a lovely night in the BBQ hut which was adorned beautifully to create a really magical feel. The views are captivating. We could see across to Dumfries and Galloway on a clear day and to sit and have coffee in the seating area outside close to the birds feeding was really relaxing. Finally, the owners are the most welcoming and considerate owners. The welcome pack was so nice on arrival and nothing was too much trouble. It was the nicest week we've had in The Lakes. Thank you so much
