Just show me Seahouses Cottages
Looking for a lively base from which to tour Northumberland's stunning Heritage Coast? Then consider a Seahouses holiday cottage in this popular seaside town.
Seahouses promises an unforgettable wildlife watching experience and is the stepping stone to the Farne Islands - home to incredibly large numbers of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, eiders, shags and terns. Mid-April to late July is the official breeding season. Once the birds flee, the islands transform into a huge colony for grey seals - view the pups from late October to mid-December. Several companies operate day trips from the harbour, a couple of which are licensed to land (at restricted times of year). Spare a moment to gaze back at the mainland for a fantastic view of Bamburgh Castle, an iconic landmark for miles around.
Back in Seahouses, potter around the colourful harbour and watch local fishermen land their catch-of-the-day. The town has an excellent reputation as a centre for fishing, as well as sailing and diving. Explore the bustling main street and sample cuisine in a number of restaurants from international to traditional and, of course, sensational fish and chips. There's also a good choice of pubs.
Don your boots and follow the coastal path north to Bamburgh and visit its splendid castle. Discover spectacular beaches and windswept sand dunes all around - perfect for walks with your dog or rock pooling with the family. Visit the local riding centre and enjoy a countryside hack or gallop along the sands.
Later, unwind at your cosy Seahouses cottage, ready for another exciting day tomorrow.
