  • "Nice to return to Cefn y Gadfa two months on and see the changes spring flowers, in the fields and cottage garden, and drier access tracks make to the experience."

However we did search in vain for the new frying pan promised and also felt the need of a sieving ladle (large spoon sized). The kitchen door has fallen on its hinges so the bolts won't relocate to close unless it is lifted up. And the front kitchen window has a similar problem when it is time to close it again. Otherwise everything was just as delightful and the lack of TV wasn't troubling at all. Views are breathtaking, the sheep and lambs provide an ever changing floor show and the peaceful walks and atmosphere simply out of this world.

Thank you for this feedback. I have asked our local builder to check the door and window when he visits the house this weekend to re-do a patch of plaster. He installed the window and fixed the door once before and both were working well so he is puzzled by your comments, but let's see what he can do. I did look for shallower frying pans online but could not find any that fitted your description and I have not been to CyG myself since March, before we last communicated - it has been solidly booked - so I have not been able to visit the kitchen shop in Llandudno to ask what kind of pan you mean. I will do that when I am next there, but it won't be until the autumn. And I will enquire about a small sieve too, but did you not find the standard sized one, with the diameter of a side plate, that we have there? On the whole, I think you will agree, the CyG kitchen is well equipped. With kind regards, Belinda Property Owner

  • "The cottage though remote is a gem."

Well worth the drive to get to it. A car with 4x4 helps and a judicious application of a few tons of hardcore here and there might not come amiss on the access track. We loved the nonchalant scattering of family memorabilia and tasteful country house castoff furniture, carpets, and ornaments, all of which provided an intriguing insight into the owners', past and present, outdoor lives. Despite being roomy and totally exposed to wind and rain, the rambling old place was perfectly warm and dry - very different from the damp cottage I once rented up the road at Nebo, which resembled nothing so much as living in a mildewed fridge. On the critical side we couldn't find a frying pan for our simple peasant repast of burgers and there was Jew's ear fungus growing behind the door in the 'gentlemen's' bathroom, watered by a leaking radiator joint. We loved our holiday and thought it one of the best we've had.
