  • "I don't usually write reviews but I thought the Garden Flat deserved some praise."

I stayed here a week with my daughter and was totally relaxed and comfortable the whole time. It's position close to the town was ideal as we often dined out for our evening meals. The outdoor patio area looked inviting for meals alfresco, however the weather didn't allow us as November is not ideal. Michelle is a brilliant host and has the flat furnished to a very high standard.  I found the king-sized bed very comfortable and the cottage had everything I needed for my stay. The smart TV worked well and I even used my5 to catch up on some missed episodes of Dalgliesh.  Phone signal into the garden flat was just enough to make voice calls but not for internet use. However the broadband in the cottage was excellent with good fast speeds.  I made use of the thoughtfully provided wine, tea, coffee, sugar, and biscuits.  All super clean and nothing seemed too much trouble to ask of this excellent host. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it.

There are Waitrose and Aldi supermarkets a few minutes walk away. Off road parking is very convenient, being just in front of the apartment. The apartment is spotlessly clean, with modern bathroom and comfortable beds. The owner has provided a range of helpful tourist information, as well as a range of books and dvds. There are buses nearby that run to Derby via Bakewell and Matlock and a train that runs to Manchester. The apartment provides an excellent base for exploring the area including further a field, Manchester and Chester.

The path to the property is a bit dark but we’ll bring a torch next time. Also there was a strange smell from the drains in the bathroom, not sure what it was. But overall I couldn’t fault it. Thank you

Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you had a lovely stay. The private track down to the entrance to the property is a little dark - there isn't a lot we can do about that as it isn't owned by us. We have a motion sensor light for the steps once you get to the actual flat but I do often suggest if I think someone is going to arrive when it is dark too bring a torch but I might add that to my instructions as a general point. We have fantastic, very powerful torches in the property which any guest is welcome to borrow if they are going out at night they are in the drawer in the hall and by the bed in the main bedroom. I disinfect the sink and shower when I clean every week. If it smells after that it normally means it is ready for a deeper clean with some harsher stuff! I normally do that every 2/3 months. The flat is closed for maintenance for a week so I will do a deep clean and hopefully that will stop the smell. Always happy to have feedback that helps me keep my flat as comfortable and inviting as possible. I clean through myself as I live locally so am able to spot problems and deal with things that come up quickly. Property Owner

It was clean and well equipped. The weather turned wet and cold, the only downside was the bedroom radiators which only came on for some reason for an hour at tea time and remained cold. The owner did look and on the day she came they were lovely and warm but only came on once a day afterwards. A good job the bed duvets were warm!

Thank you Mrs Crossley for your kind comments, what a shame the weather wasn’t so good for your stay in Buxton but glad you found the flat comfortable and it had everything you needed. I did indeed visit the property on the day you reported the issue with the radiator with my plumber. As you said, they were all lovely and warm so we were hopeful the issue had resolved itself. I am sorry to hear that it didn't and I hope it didn’t spoil your stay. As I live locally I am always happy to come and deal with any issues as they arise. Although I didn’t have an opportunity to come and resolve this during your stay as I was unaware that the issue had continued, having read your review I went down with my plumber again and have now found the air lock in the system that was stopping the warm water getting to the last couple of radiators in the system. We are happy for guests to adjust the thermostat to suit their own needs and yes we do have good bedding and an ample supply of blankets as well on hand. We hope to see you again in the future so you can perhaps explore Buxton in the sunshine. Property Owner

Many thanks for your kind comments, we try hard to make our guests stay very special and always take any feedback on board and welcome the opportunity to think about making our holiday let as good as it can be. We had an unfortunate incident last year where an ingress of water meant much of the furniture and flooring was damaged and needed to be replaced. The one thing we were'nt happy about after all the work had been done were the sofas as we struggled to find any in the timescale needed to accommodate our next guests. They do the job but are just a bit stiff, we actually asked guests to feel free to bounce on them to try and break them in! We also provide lots of cushions and blankets in the meantime so you can snuggle up and make yourselves comfortable. We left a note in the guest book and asked for comments as we couldn't afford to replace them at that time but wanted to see if guests felt when the money was available next if we should get some better ones. We appreciate your feedback on this and am also relieved that you are only the second guest since April to mention them in a negative way. They are on our list of things to replace when we can and hopefully that will be within the next 3/4 months assuming we continue to have plenty of bookings over the next year. We are also sorry to hear you weren't happy with the shower. This is a new shower and we did invest in a good one when we upgraded last year. When I am in on Friday, I will check that everything on the shower is set correctly to ensure the best possible shower experience! I hope you will agree that the shower is spacious and clean, the bathroom is lovely and warm and we provide plenty of large soft towels for you to use during your stay. If there is anything else you want to mention to me directly I am happy for you to contact me by email and thanks again for your kind comments I am glad you had a good stay. Property Owner

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
