Very welcoming, especially for dogs with secure fencing, a good size garden and on a quiet lane. Directions were good as satnav takes you to the wrong place. Is great for a holiday cottage, but not to work from as no WiFi, but it means you switch off from a busy life. Would definitely return if I was looking at staying in the area again.

  • "We loved our holiday."

It was close to grandchildren so lovely to see lots of them. The cottage was warm to walk into which was lovely. It had most of what we needed too. More isolated than we realised! But it needs a deep clean... we know it's dog friendly but everything smelt of dogs... none of the bedding or towels had a fresh smell either. Also the single room is not always for a child so a proper bath towel would be appreciated. Lots of dirt on kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Floors obviously not cleaned in a while. The double bed is desperate for a new mattress too. Wi Fi would be an added bonus. We messaged the owner twice but no reply! The cottage has so much potential though.

Hi, I can confirm the property was thoroughly cleaned by myself prior to your arrival. All carpets are new and were sprayed with Scotch Guard protection. All bedding is always cleaned to a high standard during changeover, including mattress protectors. All surfaces and floors are cleaned again during changeover. Please see the property description which states there is no wifi available in this remote area. Lastly, I am sorry but I received no correspondence from yourself. Property Owner

.heating not on. Smell of damp where plates kept and grass not cut. Double bed too small, uncomfortable and made to fit bedroom which was not a double bedroom (could just about walk round), no doors on wardrobes. Lots of spiders, webs and bugs over walls and ceilings. No shops, pubs or local amenities for miles....overall very disappointed...not worth what was paid for this cottage...came home three days early. Will not book with you again.

I can assure you the grass was cut the morning that you arrived, luckily the place does not have a damp problem, the double bed IS a double bed, as for not having wardrobe doors, l can't remember any place that l've stayed in for years that did have doors on their wardrobes some even just have a rail, as for your bugs! I think you must have brought them with you and packed them when you left, if Wifi and other facilities are a priority l suggest you read the property details before you book Property Owner

Very restful, peaceful and quiet area. The garden was exactly as advertised, completely secure which was perfect. There was a really thoughtful welcome basket when we arrived and the dogs loved the home made treats. Everything was really clean and thought through. Toys and towels left out for the dogs also. A very comfy bed to sleep in. Not far from Bridgwater which has every major supermarket and the nearby village has a spar, so easy to access and pick up what you need. We drove through to Minehead and had a walk along the seaside which was great and the dogs loved it. Pam, owner very helpful if you need anything. Would highly recommend!

Felt really happy letting the dogs explore both front and rear gardens, without supervision. There was a fine mesh covering the wooden fence, preventing any escape. Just a mile along a country lane, to the pebble beach. Well equipped kitchen ( now with a freezer) comfy bed, loads of hot water. Rear garden well illuminated. Nearest pub 3? miles away. We ordered a Sainsburys home delivery shop, as nearest decent supermarket 9miles away. Directions to the chalet were spot on! Basket full of tourist information. Any issues, Pam is only a phone call away! As the building is a bungalow, everything is on 1 level. Would recommend this property to anyone with dogs.

Expectations were high and after unpacking and the dogs enjoying the garden we spent time looking around the lodge. Cleanliness was a major disappointment. We needed to wash glasses, plates and work surfaces due to a later of grease on them. A frying pan found was worse. The mop for the kitchen was still outside next to the wheelie bin. The bathroom had a mouldy shower mat, radiator thick with grime and dust and shower rail rusty. The bathroom shelf was also of no use as not fitted correctly. Upon looking at the double bed the mattress was just open foam with a topper on it. Also woken up at 6am daily from dogs barking at the owners house. We were expecting peace and tranquility. Toaster didn't work properly and due to the remote location a larger fridge and a useable freezer would have helped. Several items of food left in cupboards which can be a bonus however use by dates of Dec 2021 and Aug 2022 wasn't something that should be in the cupboards. Garden was great for the dogs.

Loved the cottage & the walking books with dogs was a wonderful touch really helped to decide we’re to go. Due to isolation of location my only one thing I would have liked to be able to mark 5 out of 5 for facilities is if there was a bigger fridge & there was a freezer. We brought all our food and struggled to fit it all in. Others staying may eat out more & not need this facility. However we came beginning of March before the holiday season started and pubs etc had limited opening, most only opened a few days a week. The nearest supermarket is good hour round trip. The dogs loved the garden. The bed was very comfortable. The cottage was lovely and warm. The cottage is in a lovely quiet area. Pam the owner was lovely & helpful.

We did not like how close the electricity pylons were to the property and electricity crackling along the lines. The garden furniture seriously needs updateding, people pay good money to go on holiday and deserve a level of comfort, one of the property biggest plus,s is the garden so naturally time is spent there. We found the front gates heavy to manoeuvre, because they have dropped. We think these issues should be taken care of to improves other peoples stay there while on holiday.

There are many reasons why a mirror would not be suitable , mainly because they are not legal and if someone claimed that they had been dazzled and had an accident then l would be liable, the drive onto the signal track dead end lane is incredibly wide and has never been a problem being able to see. Tea, coffee, milk & sugar, as well as mince pies, chocolates, and a tin of biscuits, were there to welcome us when we arrived. Our dogs had a big box of toys & home made doggy biscuits. Pam herself, came out in the torrential rain to make sure we had everything we needed. Later in the week, she let our dogs play in a big secure agility/ obstacle field, she had built herself, for her 4 dogs, & made us coffee whilst all the dogs played together. She clearly loves dogs as much as we do. We have already booked for Christmas 2021 (as Christmas 2020 is booked up) An amazing holiday, & an amazing lady.

  • "Lovely peaceful cottage and great enclosed garden to front and rear for the dog knowing she could not escape!"

! lovely treats left for us by the owner and also lovely homemade doggy biscuits which were all very welcome. Great location for touring Somerset and beach not far away for the dog. I would avoid the walk to Stolford beach though as very muddy and my springer need a big bath on returning!! The weather was great so were out and about - Kilve beach good at high tide as very pebbly but there is a small lagoon bit if tide out for the dog to swim. Minehead and Watchet nice places and good fish and chips in Minehead. willows and wetlands centre near Yeovil great place on Somerset levels also very dog friendly. All in all a lovely two weeks spent at Sunshine Lodge. Only downside was no WIFI to check postcodes for places to visit and details of places and my data was limited!!

The human welcome was also excellent.. I returned home yesterday lunchtime and booked sunshine lodge again yesterday evening.. If you have an awards scheme then Pam deserves one. A very satisfied customer Marie Whitehouse plus Milo & Tara

It is a quiet and peaceful spot. But most importantly to us the garden was dog friendly so we had no worries about letting our dog roam around outside in the back garden. And yes we would go back there again.

  • "The welcome pack was lovely, thank you."

The owner made it very friendly for the dogs, and the dog toys and towels that were left were a fab idea, thank you. The bed was uncomfortable and was a cheap framed bed that was wobbly, did not feel safe sleeping in the bed so slept in the recliner chair in the lounge, which was the only comfy chair in the house. The sofas were uncomfy as no head or upper back support. Might was to get a better feather duster to reach those cob webs too. The hoover was not fit for purpose, the carpet looked worse after I hoovered. I have a long estate car so the gates on the drive would not close, therefore the front garden was not dog friendly. Could not park outside due to blocking field entrance. Could not park on road as single track road, and used by large lorries carry goods to build sea defences.

  • "The owner was very thoughtful, in that she contacted us on Friday afternoon, the day before our departure."

We had expressed concerns over the very busy traffic that weekend. She offered to prepare the cottage for our use, for 8 a.m. on the Saturday morning. We set off early and arrived about 9 a.m., so gaining, instead of losing a day of holiday. It was much appreciated. The cottage garden is very secure for pets, so we could leave the doors open, without worrying (Weather is/was very HOT!). The inside suitable for dogs too, so no worries there either. It is clean, comfortable and homely. A little out of the way, but that is what we wanted: quiet and peaceful.

Really dog friendly and caters for all doggy needs, which made our holiday really relaxing with our 4 dogs. A very secure garden, front and back, even for small dogs. The cottage is about a mile from Hinkley Power Station, along a very quiet lane in countryside, which was initially a bit of a shock, but drive out 15 minutes and the Quantock Hills and surrounding area are fantastic and well worth a visit. Amazing walks and quaint little villages nearby. So a great place as a base, with your dogs, to enjoy the Quantock National Park and nearby area.

About the location

STOGURSEY

Bridgwater 9 miles; Watchet 10 miles.

The quiet village of Stogursey is situated close to the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only a mile from the sea. To the west lies Exmoor, and to the east are the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury and Wells. The village has a traditional friendly pub, a couple of village shops and an interesting castle with pretty moat. The Somerset Levels is one of the best places in the world for birdwatching, and the local Steart Peninsula, to the north of Stogursey, is part of the Bridgwater Bay National Nature Reserve (NNR) and is a vast area which is part of a larger Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). For a spot of relaxing fishing, the nearby Burton Springs Fishery is regarded as one of Somerset’s finest and most tranquil fisheries, and has the benefit of three spring-fed lakes. The Coleridge Way is a beautiful 36-mile walking route through the stunning Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor, a landscape that inspired Coleridge to produce some of his best-known work. Children may enjoy Tropiquaria at Watchet or just playing on the beach. Locally, hunting for fossils in Kilve is always popular, or the steam train at Bishops Lydeard. This lovely village is a great base for exploring the area.
