Askham 1 mile; Keswick 20 miles.
The lovely old hamlet of Helton is situated in northeast Lakeland, a few miles from beautiful Ullswater and a mile from the unspoilt village of Askham, one of the most attractive villages in the Lake District. It overlooks the River Lowther, and contains many whitewashed cottages either side of the two village greens. There are two pubs in Askham - the 17th century Queen's Head, and the 18th century Punch Bowl, both still retaining some of their original features. Nearby Lowther Castle, surrounded by unspoilt parkland, dates back to the reign of Edward I and visitors are able to see over 150 falcons, hawks, eagles, buzzards and owls from this country and abroad in the Bird of Prey Centre. Many good local walking opportunities abound in the Lowther and Eden valleys, including Haweswater and the Pennines. Close by, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, the Century Theatre, a charming cinema and the Derwent Water. With the southern Lakes, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance, this great location has plenty to see and do for everyone.

Very interesting property with amazing architecture reflecting its great age. Huge beams, great kitchen with a lovely Aga, very homely with many personal items about which added to it. Fire ready to light and there were clear instructions around the house.
