  • "Bay View apartment was extremely clean and contained everything we needed for our stay."

The view from the living room window is stunning and is definitely a highlight of the property. The apartment is centrally located in Oban which is very handy for local amenities however future visitors should be aware that the street outside is very busy and there is no free parking in Oban. We purchased a weekly pass online from the local council which cost us £30 (July 2023). The apartment would benefit from minor improvements such as effective curtains in the bedrooms and a firmer bed in the main bedroom. The keys to the front door were also temperamental. In addition there was a lack of instructions for appliances. We had no hot water on arrival but our host dealt with the issue promptly and it was fixed as speedily as was possible. We enjoyed our stay!

  • "Fantastic views from the balcony and living room."

Perfect location for visiting Oban and surroundings. Had a lovely stay in the spacious and comfortable appartment. We recommend buying a parking permit for North Pier Car Park in advance. The appartment offers everything you need and more. The period furniture adds to the cosy character, please don't change a thing. Could use some maintenance (bathroom and paint), but the views make up for a lot.

The flat is very comfortable but could do with a bit of modernisation, particularly the kitchen and bathroom. But the view makes up for any shortcomings!

  • "We loved the location of the property and the amazing views out of the window/balcony across the bay, some of the sunsets were just incredible."

The property has amazing original features and has obviously been well looked after. We would definitely stay again. Feedback for Sykes is that the communication was wrong, you said I would receive a text with key safe number, this didn't happen, I had to ring office and request this, so I was relieved somebody was in the office. Also a more up-to-date information pack is needed in the house regarding use of appliances and location of free car park (this actually doesn't exist anymore all car parks are charging). There is also mention of a deposit needed but this was never requested or explained.

  • "The accomodation was lovely, and the views from the balcony was amazing."

Upon arrival,we was met with fresh milk and biscuits etc..., that had been left for us,by the property owners, which we found to be a lovely touch and extremely convenient,as we had had a long journey and didnt have to worry about finding a shop immediately. The decor and the heating would be better if it was updated, but didnt affect our stay in anyway.(Just felt like I was on holiday at my Nans) The only dissappointment we had,was that the window in the twin room was broken and was unable to be secured properly, letting in a draft from outside.Originally, my mother was supposed to be joining us on our holiday, but suddenly fell ill, last minute, and wasnt able to come, however if she had,we would of had to of blocked up the window,or moved bedroom furniture around,so my daughter and mother could share in another room,as none of us, would of wanted to stay in a cold, damp room for a week, which could of been detrimental to our health. Overall, the accomodation suited us perfectly, and we would definitely consider staying here again,if the window was fixed, thankyou once again for a lovely stay,Many Thanks Anna McIntosh

  • "The apartment has everything you need for the stay."

But its a bit worn down and it looks a bit "tired". A face lift would increase the experience, definitely. One negative thing was that many of the window and the balcony door, was in bad condition. E.g. one of the windows in the last bedroom where impossible to close! I guess that when its cold outside, this apartment gets a cold draft that probably isn't to nice.

  • "Nice flat and comfortable, terrific view."

Main drawback was the parking, why not include more info or buy a yearly pass for parking or publicise the weekly pass you can buy. The brochure comment that free parking is available 10 minutes walk away is difficult to substantiate unless you know the back alleys of Oban.

Owner responds very quickly to any problems(kettle started leaking and a new one was delivered right away. Fist down side ever in all our stays was the weather was much colder this year and needed to put the heating on. We were worried about the cost on the smart meter and feel central heating would have been a better option as storage heaters don't work. But a great place to stay.

  • "We have been to this flat many times and always enjoy our holidays there."

Some shortcomings are the heating system stoage heaters ( some do not work ) and back up portable heaters. This works but can be cumbersome. Also the cooker gave some problems and we tended to avoid useing it . One major problem which should be mentioned is the difficuty/ expense of parking. There is no free parking in Oban and street parking near the flat is costly and only paid for for two hours at a time ( awkward ) and may not always be available. The nearest public car park ( 24 hours ) is five minutes walk away and only a little less expensive. Staying at the flat for two weeks the parking fees were well over £100 .Guests should be aware of this.

  • "This was our 11'th visit to this apartment."

I think that is self explanatory, see previous reviews. I strongly feel that the amount of emails from Sykes pre holiday is excessive and quite impersonal as its quite obvious they are computer generated. One telephone call a week before the holiday would suffice and bring a personal touch.

  • "In many many ways, the cottage was absolutely perfect."

We loved the retro vibe and the views were spectacular. Everything was scrupulously clean and extremely comfortable - ideal for a relaxing break, with only a couple of quibbles. (1)The cooker was not entirely user friendly. We had particular problems with the gas grill, which, when in use, caused the cooker knobs to become unbearably hot and impossible to handle. (2) The bathroom was clean and spacious, but the lack of a walk-in shower caused problems for an elderly member of our group. Also, as a party of five, we would have appreciated, if not a second bathroom, then at least a second toilet. Of course, we were aware of the facilities when we booked, but none the less it might be something to consider for the future. But perhaps the greatest inconvenience was the very inadequate water supply, which made it impossible to have a shower and difficult to fill the kettle.

  • "I can’t recommend this holiday flat enough."

The living and dining room area is very spacious and has a breathtaking view of Oban Bay. We were lucky enough to experience some amazing sunsets and people were lining the promenade in front of the flat to take photos whilst we enjoyed it with a glass of wine and a fish and chip supper from the takeaway just around the corner that is recommended by Rick Stein. The parking is a bit of a pain. We decided to absorb parking fees into our holiday budgeting. Basically you need to pay to park between 9 am and 6 pm, but you can have 30 minutes free and then only 2 hours in the same place. We were always out and about so we were fine with it. The pluses with this holiday accommodation are so many that the parking feels insignificant. There’s a lovely seating place behind the flat protected from the wind that catches the sun, we took a paddle board and used it in the bay and stored it just outside the back door, the nearest beach is 2 kilometres away and you can walk or jog there, locals are very friendly, the bath is full length, the kitchen is very well equipped.... I hope you all enjoy staying there as much as we did. Many thanks to the owner

I was delighted to find that the owner had not fallen victim to 'modernisation mania'. Finding a charming traditional accommodation is now akin to finding the proverbial Needle in a Haystack. The furnishings are comfortable and perfectly in keeping with the original style of the flat. The views and proximity to the harbour are unsurpassed as are the lovely personal touches.

  • "Fantastic view of the sea from the living room, in a prime Oban location, with plenty to keep us happy."

However, parking is a real issue, with no clear instructions as to where to find free parking. From the photos we knew that the apartment was not modern, but with an unacceptably soft bed mattress, dripping taps, no instructions on things like recycling, and lack of basics like a drainer for washing up, spare kitchen bin bags or enough coasters to protect the wooden tables, the place was uncomfortable and we considered leaving early. No doubt it would suit some people well. But without some simple changes I would not want to stay there again.
