Villages worth a mention include Invermoriston and Fort Augustus, the latter a good place to view the Caledonian Canal's remarkable lock system. The city of Inverness is within easy reach too.
Enjoy walking or cycling? Head for the south eastern shoreline and escape-from-it-all, with wild landscapes and mesmerising loch views - don't miss the dramatic 100ft waterfalls of Foyers.
Exercise and fresh air encourage a healthy appetite and even in the remotest parts of Loch Ness, you'll find some fantastic pubs serving hearty Scottish fare that won't cost the earth.
