  • "Perfect place to get off the grid!"

Have loved our relaxing stay at Scylla View. Everything we needed is here. Comfortable double bed with plush furnishings, well stocked cupboards and utensils. Warm and cosy home from home feel in open plan lounge/diner. Loved the little vases of flowers and ready to use ice cube tray in freezer :) The hoist was a godsend in getting our luggage and food supplies down the steep cliff. I’m sure the property is perfect in season but we really loved the peace and in the main having the beach to ourselves. Have already recommended Scylla View to our friends and look forward to returning :)

Instead of cars, all you can hear is the sound of waves. The location of this gem would be hard to beat, anywhere in the world. Just beautiful and very special indeed. The host, Jim, is very friendly and helpful. Some day we will be back for sure!

Wow the experience is something i will never forget!!!!!! That view from the accommodation breathtaking! Great coastal walks and so quiet ! To be fair you don’t need anything else , but bring food supplies . don’t come if you don’t like your own company after the tourists have gone home it’s just you and the sea

  • "A spectacular property, as close to the sea as it gets."

Jim and Nina could not have been better hosts and the pictures don't do the apartment justice. Has everything you could need and more. In the photos the twin room looks as though the beds are child size but these are in fact full size singles. This is the place to stay for anyone who wants to get away from it all and just appreciate the beauty of the sea. For rainy days there is surprisingly good WiFi and a selection of DVDs- although we took to playing cards, reading and painting! I would also recommend the cafe directly below the property, nothing was too much trouble! If you manage to read Jim's book before you stay (or while you are there as I did), you will realise what a privilege it is to be in the company of such an interesting man and I only wish we had been able to share that glass of wine before we left. Thank you for everything, will definitely be back in the spring! Charlotte and Amelia

  • "A peaceful location with an extraordinarily beautiful view of the beach."

Would highly recommend for anyone who was able to cope with the long, steep climb down steps and road and up again. Wonderful hosts who went out of their way to help with luggage. Would recommend that you travel light if possible but take food for the week if you are not planning to come up the cliff again. Feeling so refreshed after our week at Scylla View.

  • "We left Scylla cottage feeling totally reinvigorated."

Being in such close proximity to the beach and the sea and at one with the elements was simply blissful. Everything else paled into insignificance and in these difficult times, that is truly something. Thank you Jim, Nina and family for being excellent hosts and we intend to make escaping to the cottage a very regular thing! Jane and Pete.

  • "An incredible place to stay if you love the sound of the sea."

You feel like you are actually 'in' the sea at high tide which is amazing. We loved our time at Scylla - Jim and Nina are wonderful and so helpful. The steps were a challenge for me (arthritic knees) but not enough to dissuade me from going back which we will. The most perfect place to rest and switch off. Walking on the beach was so therapeutic and Scylla View had everything that anyone could need. Highly recommended venue for those who really need a break or those who love surfing.

  • "Scylla View is a great place to stay - you are literally at the bottom of the cliff, almost on the beach."

The flat has great views and is very comfortable and cosy. There are two bedrooms, a good shower/loo plus a small kitchen area in the open plan sitting room. There is no table, but a large bar with stools round to sit and eat. The pans are good to cook with. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the planning and decor. It has a joint entrance with the owner's home, which is accessed off a large deck, and is situated above the other one bed apartment - the cafe and surf school are below/behind the owners home. The cliff is steep, and it does take some time to get down and up as it is not just the 166 steps but also the long drag up the tarmacked lane to the the top of the cliff - I am fat and in my 50's and my husband has had both hips and a knee done and we managed it without any problem....but needed a lot of puff. We would have struggled without the hoist for our luggage. You do need to be very organised with regard to supplies - it is isn't the sort of place to run out of anything! There were plenty of teabags, a couple of coffee pods for the machine, salt & pepper grinders, a tea towel, oven gloves, bedding and towels, dettox, a cleaning cloth and a scourer provided, but don't forget oil for cooking and any herbs etc. In season Jim and Nina will cook you fish or scampi and chips etc. There is also a cafe near the top of the cliffs which opens all year round until about 4pm and will provide hot pasties to take out on a day trip or lunch, or tea and cake/scones. If you go over the road there is a restaurant in Whitesands Bay Holiday Park, which apparently does a carvery on Sundays. The views are breathtaking and the beaches are just beautiful.

The sound of the waves, lulling me to sleep at night. Dog friendly. Surf school next door, keeping the kids occupied and entertained. Note. It's a long climb back up to the top, so don't forget to take everything you need with you.

  • "We thought the slightly remote position should be more emphasized regarding having enough provisions on arrival."

If you havn't got something the nearest coop in Millbrook is about an hour and a half return trip from the property. Shame the beech cafe wasn't open during the week as we were expecting it to be but i understand it was probably to quiet in the week to justify this. Maybe just for a few hours around lunch time would of come in handy when we stayed with the property. The owners were great and all in all our stay was fantastic.

Location was absolutely fabulous - with amazing walks along the beach, surfing, paddleboarding and playing in the waves. The perfect location to de-stress and sit back and watch the ever changing scenery. Hearing the waves crash against the rocks as you were drifting off to sleep was so therapeutic. Can’t fault the holiday or the cottage or the hosts. It was absolutely perfect!

  • "Beautiful location right on the beach, apartments had everything we needed."

The only drawback is the steep climb to get back up the cliff side if you want to go out. You shouldn't consider this apartment if you are unsteady on your feet. Luckily we had no issues with the 160 steps and loved every second of our week in Eddystone Cafe Apartments

About the location

WHITSAND BAY

Torpoint 5 miles.

Set in a bowl of hills at the head of a tidal creek that leads to the Hamoaze, opposite the great naval city of Plymouth, Millbrook is located on the Rame Peninsula, "Cornwall's Forgotten Corner". Bounded by the Lynher and Tamar rivers, the Hamoaze and the sea, the area is deeply rural and designated as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village has a good range of shops and pubs, while close by are the pretty coastal villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, from which a ferry will take you to Plymouth. Along the southern edges of the peninsula are miles of beautiful walks with glorious views of Rame Head. Just a mile south of Millbrook lies Whitsand Bay with its miles of uncrowded sandy RNLI patrolled beach and dramatic cliffs. A superb base for discovering the wild side of Cornwall.
