  • "Best cottage we have had, our 32nd and goes to number 1."

We were met by the friendliest couple Dave and Veronica who went out of their way to make sure everything was in order, with cream tea, and lots of goodies, even our dog was treated with all sorts. All the extra touches flowers in every room, we were made to feel at home straight away. Very private and safe for our dog. Highly recommend this cottage. You will not be disappointed. Thank you both for making us welcome without being intrusive.. Thanks to Veronica for my gluten free goodies, they were delicious. Margaret, Celia and Tilly x

  • "Wow wow wow."

I set myself a challenge at the beginning of the week to find something negative about the cottage. I failed. Cream tea awaited us on arrival, along with milk, apple juice and Prosecco. It is so dog friendly , with dog bowls and towels and little bags of dog treats tied up with ribbon. The courtyard is safe and secure. The cottage is spacious, but warm and cosy. The decor and furniture are lovely. It was so well equipped, there was nothing that hadn’t been thought of. David and Veronica were on hand if needed, a really friendly couple. The location is brilliant, narrow lanes as expected but so many beaches and coves to explore. Gooseham itself is a pretty little hamlet. I can’t wait to go again.

We are so pleased you had a lovely time at The Shippen and thank you for your very kind feedback. We would be delighted to welcome you and your lovely doggies back here again. Property Owner

  • "Exceptional property with really exceptional hosts."

The shippen truly is a wonderful property with absolutely ALL the comforts of home. Fully equipped kitchen , very comfortable lounge furniture with freesat TV, as well as Netflix, large bathroom & large bedrooms with a four poster bed which is so comfortable we wanted to take it home. Outside, there is very comfortable patio furniture in a secluded private area sheltered from the wind, with seasonal salad crops & herbs to help yourself to. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the proud owners David & Veronica. For them, running a guest/holiday home is a recent adventure & they have worked very hard to make your holiday stay in the Shippen as comfortable as possible with great success. There were some wonderful treats waiting for us , a lovely cream tea, biscuits, milk as well as a bottle of wine, even had doggy treats for Dexter our mad springer spaniel. Our week here went so fast we tried to book the following week to stay a little longer but alas some other fortunate guests had already booked it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & we will most definitely be coming back here again.

The cottage was spotless and set in lovely quiet location. Small things extra such as a gas pizza oven outside with a garden you could pick veg from, log burner if there when it nips at night but there is also under floor heating throughout, courtesy toiletries and fresh flowers in the rooms. The courtyard parks two medium cars and could be enclosed to allow easy access for your dog to come and go, local store had a cafe and an array of essentials. The walks close by are stunning along the cliffs, can even end one at a tea rooms which is only 8min drive from the cottage. Throughly recommended booking this cottage.

The little extra touches & welcome package was the best I’ve had in any accommodation we’ve stayed in the the past, even our dog had a welcome package. Everything was supplied inc tea towels, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, doggie bowls, even left us with milk, orange juice & a cram tea, we didn’t need to take anything really other than ourselves & clothes. Very quiet area & quite rural, our hosts were lovely, very helpful but not at all intrusive & gave us the use of the backyard kitchen garden which we made use of. Would definitely recommend to friends & family. 10/10

About the location

KILKHAMPTON

Bude 4 miles.

Kilkhampton is an historic Cornish village, 4 miles from the popular Victorian seaside resort of Bude, one of Cornwall’s premier holiday locations. With its old church, village shops and atmospheric village pubs, Kilkhampton is a lovely place to relax after a hard day exploring the stunning beaches and spectacular coastal scenery for which the area is famous. Bude’s beaches attract surfers from all over the country and when conditions are right you’d be hard pushed to find better surf. When the tide is out, miles of golden sand and hundreds of rock pools keep visitors occupied for hours. The South West Coast Path, and many other rights-of-way winding over the clifftops and through lush green fields looking out over the sea, make this area a haven for walkers and lovers of the open countryside. For those who prefer staying closer to home, a good shopping centre and a selection of pubs, two clubs and restaurants are on offer. Bude canal, a registered nature reserve, passes through the town, and rowing a boat along its calm waters or walking the towpath among the beautiful (and friendly) water fowl that live among the reeds is a great way to spend an hour or two.
